True Sine Wave On‐Line UPS Always On™ NX Series UPS systems are designed to provide reliable, clean and consistent power to all critical loads and emergency applications. Power reliability is business reliability.
The NX Series of UPS is a dual conversion, on‐line, three phase system for use as centralized power protection and distribution. The dual conversion process converts the utility AC supply into DC power, which is used to charge the batteries and supply power to the inverter. The Inverter then inverts the DC power back into a high quality, regulated and isolated AC power source. The wide operating range of the UPS system allows it remain online without discharging or depleting the battery capacity. This makes it fully compatible with poor quality industrial electrical environments, as well as unstable generators.
The UPS continually monitors and provides conditioning to the incoming electrical power, removing under‐voltages and over‐voltages, sags and spikes and other irregularities that are inherent within industrial power systems. The NX Series UPS system supplies clean, consistent power at the rated voltage with a low distortion pure sine wave for your sensitive electronic equipment. Blackouts, brownouts and other power interruptions, regardless of duration, can be protected against with additional battery cabinets to provide the necessary emergency power to safeguard your operation.
Always On™ provides a truly isolated output to eliminate all types of power aberrations as well as Common and Normal Mode noise, increasing the reliability and life of the loads connected.
Our High Quality Control Standards are ensured by testing at the component level, board level, function level and completed stage level as specified by our ISO 9001:2008 certification.
Redundant Applications for the highest standard of reliability: Mission critical applications such as hospital operating rooms, airport security, oil processing and refineries, and marine emergency systems require the highest availability of power. Always On™’s unique IPRO technology sets the highest standard for power reliability, with the IPRO 1+1 compatible NX Series UPS’s. Decentralized bypass, redundant control electronics and batteries provide matched load‐sharing and robust fault‐tolerant operations.
Features and Benefits Full Galvanic Isolation Full Galvanic Isolation provides a completely isolated and referenced output. This isolation protection provides a proven solution to problems created by induced voltages affecting the critical loads. Since the output circuit to the load is completely isolated and no noise induced on the neutral can permeate to the loads, systems operate in a more reliable fashion. Also, this type of protection increases the life span of equipment by eliminating noise, which breaks down components. Modular design Each major component (inverter, rectifier and static switch) on the NX Series are installed on slide‐out modules. This allows for quick repair (mean time to repair of <30 minutes) and easy field upgradeability. Fully digital DSP (Digital Signal Processor) and flash memory are the technology corner stones of the new age of power quality and reliability.

High Efficiency Thanks to IGBT technology, the NX Series UPS’s has a high efficiency. This, combined with IPRO, results in the most cost‐efficient and reliable UPS solution in the industry. Convenient front panel design The LCD display and control switches are accessible through the up, down, and enter switches below the front panel window. All the viewable parameters can be read without opening the front door. The inverter on/off switch is protected from accidental operation by being located behind the locked front door. The inverter can still be switched on and off via the control switches on the front panel, but this feature is password protected. UPS monitoring and management via SNMP module (included) Direct access of remote UPS and active management of single modules in multi‐unit configurations are the keys to efficient and predictable power quality management. The SNMP Client/Agent structure, direct link, or remote connection enables a network manager or facility engineer to permanently monitor and control local or remote Always On™ UPS systems and the equipment and processes they protect. A real‐time graphical display of critical UPS parameters and environment information of multiple decentralized UPS’s, as well as statistical data and event log files, are available on every local computer display and network management system or on the Internet. Additionally, UPS status information changes can be sent to such varied information carriers as SMS, network management systems, email or fax. High Efficiency Mode The high efficiency function adds cost effectiveness, maximizes efficiency and reduces power consumption. Alternating between bypass and on‐line modes is achieved automatically and in accordance with the conditions of the AC supply power. On‐line mode may be used during times of intermittent power, and bypass mode when the utility is within user‐selectable parameters in order to obtain greatest efficiency. Irregularities can be detected in less than a second, and on‐line mode reactivated immediately. Extension of battery life Batteries are a critical part of every UPS solution, acting as the power supply in the event of an AC power failure. They are sensitive products that need to be handled and monitored continuously and carefully in order to increase their lifetime and predictability. Always On™ includes superior battery management within the entire NX Series family and is a comprehensive management and monitoring system that prevents batteries from overcharging and deep discharging. The NX Series features a ”no surprises” automatic battery test, and boost charging, which equalizes recharging of batteries. Protection Short circuit, over‐temperature and over‐voltage protection is built‐in to protect the NX Series UPS against any form of misuse. Back feed protection, complete protection circuits and excellent overload behavior provide outstanding user protection and application security on every UPS system. Full galvanic isolation is also included in the NX series. Extremely flexible The NX Series UPS offers tailor‐made power protection to comply with your individual installation requirements. Options include a 6‐pulse rectifier (instead of the standard 12‐pulse rectifier) for units under 80kVA and a Smart Panel (SP). In addition, a comprehensive software suite can be added for mission control and data protection.

Optional Bypass Systems
A separate cabinet to allow for complete removal of the UPS system from the load, while still supplying the load with conditioned power. Always On™ offers various systems which include isolation transformers for different voltage configurations, distribution panels, electro‐mechanical interlock protection to ensure proper operation, rotary switch operation and transient voltage surge suppression. Systems are supplied in a matching cabinet or wall mounted cabinet. These systems are recommended for maintenance purposes to prevent accidental removal of power from the loads and to allow for complete power removal from the UPS system for safety considerations.
Always On™ UPS Systems Canada Inc www.alwayson.com 11
UPS Preventative Maintenance Program
Always On™’s UPS systems are designed for maximum reliability and peak performance. Even so, a regular maintenance program is necessary to identify and correct potential problems before they can occur. This helps to prevent unplanned and inopportune downtime and outages of critical systems, more rapidly addresses problems that can occur, and even extends battery lifespan. A regular program that involves inspecting, cleaning, calibration and functional testing of all modes of operation ensures factory‐specified performance through the lifecycle of the UPS System. Record keeping is a snapshot in time for tracking and analysis of the results, to trend the components’ performance as the system ages. Maintenance takes into account the actual age of the specific devices, comparing expected performance to the lifespan. This allows us to monitor the health of the UPS system, and take corrective actions as necessary under pre‐planned conditions. The UPS automatic monthly self test can be enhanced with increased functionality through remote monitoring and testing. Specific parameters can be programmed to take into account the actual system design requirements, and log the results for analysis. Secured remote access to all the UPS’s in the network allow for comprehensive control and monitoring from one centralized location. To accurately assess battery backup capacity, however, a load test and measurement must be performed as part of a regular maintenance program. An annual UPS maintenance program (or semi‐annually in challenging environmental conditions) should be implemented as part of a user’s regular maintenance program, and is highly recommended as part of the overall equipment budget and lifecycle planning.

Genie Smart Panel / Cabinet UPS Powered Fault Protected System (One Cycle Clearing) The Genie is designed to supply AC power and isolate multiple critical loads fed by one panel. Genie is manufactured in our ISO 9001:2008 certified facilities and incorporates the Always On™ Specifically Designed Breaker (SDB). GENIE protects the connected loads from reacting to problems caused by short circuits, i.e. momentary loss of voltage (opening contacts, re‐boots etc) and high current spikes creating a possible hazard at the failed or shorted loads. During
short circuit condition with a standard distribution panel, the UPS will be automatically transferred to static bypass mode allowing the input utility to supply dangerously high currents (approximately 1000% of the maximum UPS current) for 18 to 22 cycles (the normal amount of time a standard breaker requires to clear). Also during the time the load breaker is being cleared a large transient will be created resulting in possible damaged equipment. In the event the faulted load breaker is not cleared, the UPS will shut‐down, due to extended overload, or the UPS input breaker will clear causing a power loss.
• Genie is designed to identify an overload condition and clear the SDB in advance of a total load failure preventing damaging and/or dangerous short circuits and high current conditions.
• Genie SDB’s are designed to clear or open in less than one cycle eliminating the “time window” (18 to 22 cycles of standard breakers) which allows the short circuit evolution of problems to begin.
• Genie SDB’s intelligent design distinguishes the difference between normal inrush current for equipment and a short circuit or overload condition.
• Genie SDB’s are simple plug‐in breaker design, for easy upgrade or replacement.
Options Communication port: GENIE can incorporate a relay communication interface and alarms to allow for notification of an open SDB.
Power Protection: SPD protection 200kA surge current to 600kA surge current protection is available.
Remote Panel with Audible Alarm: Configured with notification Display and Alarms function to identify open SDB.
Compatibility: The GENIE is designed specifically for Always On™ UPS products but can be utilized to support other manufactured UPS products.

The Always On™ ESE SPD filter is designed to protect, at the power panel, against externally and internally produced power aberrations, massive impulses, lightning induced effects and interference associated with low frequency harmonics and situations caused by accidents and/or failures in the electrical utility system. It is also totally compatible with all operating loads, including high frequency power supplies and constant current loads controlled by electronic switches.
Applications Electrical Service Entrance filters protect the electronic and electrical equipment in the building by supplying power protection at the main and sub‐panel locations.
Protection Our ESE’s offer high end protection for industrial and commercial environments and our specifically designed and tuned circuitry provides protection against all potentially dangerous electrical aberrations. They eliminate and attenuate to safe levels common and normal mode noise, massive surge impulses, indirect lightning strikes and their effects, interference associated with low frequency harmonics, spikes and transients, as well as problems associated with electrical utility failures caused by accidents, storms, etc.
Electrical and electronic equipment create their own power aberrations, which creates problems for other loads and equipment ‘downstream’. These aberrations will travel down the power bus to the power panels, where they propagate to other loads via other branch circuits.
By installing Always On™ ESE power panel protection devices, these problems will not occur.
Always On™ ESE Power protection offers TWO Methods of Protection
1) For all New Residential, Commercial and Industrial Construction: The ESE protects electronic equipment in new buildings (security, environmental, networking, communications, appliances, systems, etc.) from potentially destructive and disruptive externally generated power spikes and transients, massive surges, indirect lightning strikes, low frequency harmonics and common and normal mode noise.
2) For all Commercial and Industrial Retrofits: In commercial and industrial environments, the ESE offers the same features as above and protects ‘downstream’ branch panels from externally and internally generated power aberrations such as spikes, transients, massive surges, low frequency harmonics and common and normal mode noise.
Stop the problems before they can occur. Eliminate all potential problem‐causing and damaging power aberrations by having an Always On™ ESE filter installed.
Features The ESE features self‐diagnostics, LED indicators and removable fuses per phase, which eliminate dedicated and costly 3 phase panel breakers.
