King post Trusses

The king post connects the apex of the truss with its base, hanging the tie beam. King posts were often used in medieval architecture in buildings such as parish churches and tithe barns, and also appear in gothic revival and Queen Anne architecture.

The alternative queen truss uses two curved posts. A queen truss is often made from heavier timbers as it relies on the tie beam for support. Time has proven this old craft to be supperior. Traditional mortise and tenon joints with oak pegs provide the strength in every joint.

We supply a structural certificate by approved and insured engineers. This ensures the structure complies with building regulations.

This was our project during the summer of 2009. Built in Limerick for the Fitzgerold family. The aim was to combine a traditional theme with modern open plan living. This farm house will provide dramatic open spaces as well as charm and great atmosphere.
