Oak Grove United Methodist Church September 2019 MINISTRY BRAINSTORMING SUMMARY On August 14, our congregation gathered for a delicious Wednesday night meal and ministry brainstorming session. We spent time praying and writing down various ministry ideas. I sorted out the ideas and looked for the themes that emerged. I was overwhelmed by your attendance, participation, and ideas! You far exceeded my expectations. There were four resounding themes/ideas that surfaced. We will be actively working to flesh out these 4 areas in the coming months/year. Watch the announcements for updates. Listed below are the themes/ideas: 1) Ministry with the homeless and expanded prison ministry 2) Expanded small group ministry (everything from exercise groups to Bible Studies And beyond) 3) Expanded Congregational Care Ministry (see Helping Hands below) 4) Fun event ideas for our youth Many, many other great ideas were offered, including but not limited to: updated prayer chain, prayer partners, date nights for couples, singles ministry, greater use of technology (for communication, publicity, worship, etc…,) divorce recovery, tutoring or mentoring ministry, topical classes (personal finances, internet security, marriage, parenting, etc…,) traditional revivals, ministry to survivors of domestic violence, multigenerational events, Trustee related issues, (van, security, emergency response, etc…) Thankful for God’s work in our midst! Happy Labor Day! The Church Office will be closed Monday, September 2 for Labor Day.

Children I am happy to report our Wednesday J.A.M. sessions are up and running strong! It warms my heart to see our hallways filled with children on Wednesday nights. Riley Barber is assisting me with music for the kids and they are loving it! I want to give a big thank you to Jan Wilkinson and B.J. Mathias for lending their talents to the Pre-K/K class and Mallory Morgan for agreeing to help out with our 1st and 2nd graders. Also, a big thank you to Grace Dickerson for assisting Mrs. Eva in the nursery. It takes a lot of faithful volunteers to keep our Children’s Ministry running strong, and I am so grateful for each and every one of them!

If you have children or grandchildren who are missing out on all the fun while learning about Jesus and the Bible, we have a spot for them here on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights! Invite your friends and neighbors to come as well. We would love to have them join us! Looking ahead: Children’s Sabbath is Sunday, October 20! In His Service,

Kaycee

Hospitality Creed

Since hospitality means “love of a guest” and since Jesus said, “I was a stranger and you took me in,” I will always remember to…

Welcome others, especially the guest,

as though I was welcoming Jesus.

Receive no one merely as a stranger,

but rather as a dear friend.

Demonstrate through every means

available that my new friends are valued and an integral part of our fellowship.

I gladly join with others at Oak Grove United Methodist Church in affirming hospitality as an integral part of the Christian witness.

“Freely you have received, freely give.” Matthew 10:8
