By: Heather Carter, LSW, Director of Social Services

New Medicare Cards: Have you received your new Medicare card yet? Ohio Medicare cards have been arriving. In the letter that accompanies the new card, you are told to de-stroy your old card. Angel from Billing has been asked often about which card to destroy. The only card to destroy is your old red, white, and blue Medicare card. Come to the Front Desk to have a copy of your new card made for the billing office. We will have a card laminating event in the Craft Room on Tuesday, Janu-ary 8 from 2:30-3:15pm. This is a free event.

Caregiver Support Group will meet Thursday, January 3 from 1-2:30pm. This group is for residents and their families who are caring for a loved one. Please note there is a new meeting location. We will be meeting in the Chaplain’s Lounge.

Parkinson’s Support Group will be taking a break during January.

File of Life – It is important to keep the information on

your File of Life up to date. A copy should be kept in the magnetic pouch on your refrigerator as well as

one in the Social Service office. Blank copies can be picked up from the receptionist or in the Social Ser-

vice office.

New Year’s Resolutions

Many people see the new year as a blank slate — a time when you can get a fresh start and work towards goals. One of the most popular resolutions for Americans is to “get in shape” — especially after all the food-related festivities of the holidays. What are some of your goals for 2019? Let the Renewal Fitness Center be a resource for you to accomplish some of your health-related goals for 2019.

My Goals for 2019

Fill in the blanks to set your goals for the new year.

I will _______________________________________________________ more.

I will ________________________________________________________less.

I will get back in touch with _________________________________________.

I will stop _______________________________________________________.

I will start _______________________________________________________.

CVM Auxiliary News

Auxiliary Update By: Judy Oliger

Please join us for the first Quarterly Auxiliary meet-ing for 2019 on Wednesday, January 2 at 1pm in the Chapel. You can meet the new officers and board members and get the Treasurer’s year-end report for 2018 which contains the final results for the Craft/Bake sale. If you are a member, you will also help us decide whether to grant the wish list requests from Nursing and Community Life Ser-vices.

The Auxiliary would like to thank the following busi-nesses who donated to the Craft/Bake Sale this year: Yost Pharmacy - Birch Lane - Grater’s - Edi-ble Arrangements - Oberer’s Flowers - Interior’s Plus - Kroger’s - Sweet Sinsations Bakery - United Dairy Farmers - our dining room

The Auxiliary would also like to thank the many resi-dents who donated items.

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday,

January 2.

2019 Membership By: Herb Schneider

With the Residents Association no

longer collecting member dues, they

have graciously suggested that their

members support the Auxiliary since

we are the fundraising group at

CVM. Our dues will remain the

same as in the past: Single Membership at $3 and

only $5 for a couple.

We will be collecting dues at the first quarterly meet-

ing on January 2 in the Chapel. Look for a smiling

bald guy sitting at the table in the back of the room

as you enter. See you there.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! By: Joanne Biedinger, 339-0491

I hope we can start the new year with a larger per-centage of residents participating in the KROGER COMMUNITY REWARDS. If you shop at Kroger and your Kroger Plus Card is not registered for a charity to receive rewards from your shopping, please contact me for help in registering your Plus Card for the Village Auxiliary to benefit from your purchases. It costs you absolutely nothing but the Auxiliary will receive a % of your purchase. We cur-rently have 107 households registered and in 2018, we received over $1600 from Kroger...just for our residents shopping there. I can help you either at the computer in the Village library, over the phone or at your home.

Think Spring! Think Spring! Think Spring!

By: Don & Trudy Fruchtemeyer

Even though your Christmas decorations are still up and you’re getting ready to sing “Olde Lang Syne,” it’s time to start thinking about Spring. When you think of Spring your mind should automatically think of the annual Christian Village at Mason Spring Flower Sale sponsored by the Auxiliary. After last year’s disappointing last-minute substitutions by the supplier, we have changed to Durbin Interior & Landscaping. Their greenhouse is in Oxford, Ohio, and we were very impressed with their quality when we toured their facility in September. We carefully coordinated with them to assure the plants listed on the pre-order form would be available in the Spring. In order to guarantee complete delivery, we need to submit our order earlier than last year.

So, the pre-order forms are enclosed in your Janu-ary copy of The Village News. The deadline for sub-mitting your pre-orders is Thursday, February 28th. Don and Trudy Fruechtemeyer are the co-chairpersons for the 2019 Spring Flower Sale and are asking you to contact your friends and families to offer them a chance to purchase their Spring flower needs. Extra pre-order forms will be available at the Front Desk.

HELP WANTED! By: Judy Oliger

The Auxiliary is in need of someone to oversee and

organize the Craft/Bake sale next year. We also are

in need of a chairperson for the Raffle and someone

to handle the publicity. If you are not comfortable

doing the job by yourself, get one or two other peo-

ple to do the job with you. You would be of service

to your community while developing friendships and

having a good time. If you’re curious, call to obtain a

written job description which will explain your re-

sponsibilities. If you are interested, or you have

questions, call Judy Oliger. (492-9198)

CVM Christmas Fund By: Bob Moorehead

The Christmas Fund Committee would like to share our gratitude, if not pride,

in the exceptional support given by our residents for the 2018 Campaign. A total of $36,946.17 was do-nated in helping our employees at CVM this year, exceeding any fund campaign in recent mem-ory. Your giving is a blessing to all employees who provide the outstanding services we are fortunate to receive at CVM - year 'round.

Again, many thanks for your support!

The Christmas Fund Committee

Residents Association By: Out-going President, George Breuer

It has been a joy to work with vice-president Bud Black, secretary Peggy Crews Hamblin, and treas-urer Dick Kothrade during 2018 in serving the resi-dents of the Christian Village at Mason. During the year, Martha Mendez has substituted for Peggy and Jerry Shipley for Dick on occasions, and I appreci-ate their willingness to fill in as needed. They have all done a great job!

For 2019, I pray for the Lord’s blessing and guid-ance on our new officers, president Howard Bram-mer and vice-president Lois Smith, as we try transi-tioning to a quarterly meeting rather than monthly. Many thanks to Julia Larimer who has agreed to help with setting up programs during the year. Please give these wonderful folks the encourage-ment and support that I have felt throughout 2018. And don’t forget to support the Auxiliary with your dues. May God bless everyone—residents and staff together—during the new year. "A man's heart plans his way, but the LORD determines his steps." (Prov. 16:9 HCSB); God is good, all the time.

Goodbye — Thanks —Welcome By: Incoming President, Howard Brammer

The time has come for a change in the leadership roles within the CVM Residents Association. These positions are strictly volunteer and last for one year.

We now say goodbye and thank you for those step-ping off the Board — those leaving the board at this time are: George Breuer (President), Bud Black (Vice-President), Peggy Crews-Hamblin (Secretary), and Dick Kothrade (Treasurer).

New members being welcomed to the Board are Howard Brammer (President) and Lois Smith (Vice-President).

Since these people serve on our behalf, now would be a good time to say to each of them either, “goodbye,” “thank you,” or “welcome.”

Join Rachel Henderson in the Lounge on select Monday mornings during January as she bakes tasty treats, for your eating enjoyment! This event will take place on January 7, 21, and 28 at 10:45am.

OMA for You!

In December you had the chance to see OMA art-work by health care residents during our winter show, and in January you will have the chance to make artwork using those same techniques! All the projects are abstract in nature — meaning they are beautiful without having the pressure of looking like something in particular, and there is no “wrong” way to create.

This artwork is beautiful framed, or converted into one-of-a-kind cards or gifts.

Consider this your introduction to abstract art. Opening Minds through Art (OMA) for You! will take place on Mondays at 2:15pm in the Lounge.

Technology Q&A Open House

Did you get new “helpful” technology from your fam-ily for Christmas, but don’t quite understand it? Bring your technology and technology questions to the Lounge on Wednesday, January 9 from 3-4pm for 1-on-1 assistance.

2018 in Review
