Conklin, Walker headed to State!

Five Oakwood FFA members represented both the school, and Section 18 FFA at District IV Proficiency Award Interviews.

Members were: Cheyenne Kent in Agricultural Ser-vices; Kira Conklin in Equine Placement; Chelsey House in Outdoor Recreation; Clayton Walker in Poul-try Production; and Jade Hixson in Specialty Animal Production.

In order to advance from district to state competi-tion, FFA members must prove the ability to accurately maintain time and financial records, in addition to an-swering questions during an interview with at least four adults from District IV.

There are no more than five candidates vying for dis-trict winner in each of the 55 proficiency areas.

This year, Kira Conklin and Clayton Walker won their proficiency areas at the district event. They are in the top five in the state for their respective proficiency areas.

"I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to in-terview in the poultry production area after raising chickens for 10 years. There was stiff competition, and knowing that I won, makes me feel excited," said Clay-ton.

Both will go onto the State Proficiency Award Inter-views on Saturday, March 28 at the University of Il-linois.

Good job to all district competitors, and good luck to Kira and Clayton!

Blood drive a success

Many thanks to the OHS blood donors! Community Blood Servic-es of Illinois was able to collect 58 units of lifesaving blood on March 6! This has the potential to touch 174 patients’ lives!

This was one of the most suc-cessful blood drives that OHS has had in recent years.

Comets in March!
