Total Film – Star Trek This issue of Total Film is promoting the new up and coming movie Star Trek which is why the image is of the main actor Chris pine. The colour scheme in this particular issue is very straight forward but affective. They have used a black and white image which looks very classic and original, however used two set colours Red and White throughout the cover. Total Film include cover lines on issues that promote a film, this could be to attract a larger audience so that people that are not a fan of Star Trek could be more interested in what else is in the issue. The masterhead is quite a bold font which is good to promote the magazine and is visible to readers, it doesn't’t distract from the image as it’s a close up shot of the actor who is giving eye on eye contact with the readers to pull them in. The barcode is positioned well as its not that noticeable, it should only be noticeable to an extent as it only has one purpose and is used on every magazine front cover. Total Film – Star Trek • This issue of Total Film is promoting the new up and coming

movie Star Trek which is why the image is of the main actor Chris pine.

• The colour scheme in this particular issue is very straight forward but affective. They have used a black and white image which looks very classic and original, however used two set colours Red and White throughout the cover.

• Total Film include cover lines on issues that promote a film, this could be to attract a larger audience so that people that are not a fan of Star Trek could be more interested in what else is in the issue.

• The masterhead is quite a bold font which is good to promote the magazine and is visible to readers, it doesn't’t distract from the image as it’s a close up shot of the actor who is giving eye on eye contact with the readers to pull them in.

• The barcode is positioned well as its not that noticeable, it should only be noticeable to an extent as it only has one purpose and is used on every magazine front cover.

• The Date / issue / price / website have all been position in a clever way, within the M of the masterhead . This is an ideal place to place these features as they are not too noticeable on the magazine and blend in well with the whole composition .

• For the cover lines they have played around with font and different sized text which makes it more playful for readers .

• It also emphasis the more important content within the magazine which will catch the readers eye.

• Another added extra on the magazine cover is the option of having another character from the film if preferred on the cover of the issue.

• This is good advertisement for the film as you are covering all aspects. It’s a way for the company (Total Film) to make a big profit and for the film itself. Its also a way of catering for the audience as you are providing a wide variety.

Entertainment - Boyhood• Entertainment is a magazine based on films, television, music and

radio.• This issue of Entertainment is based on the upcoming movie

Boyhood which is obviously shown from the heading.• Most issues of entertainment have similar layout with the main

image being centre with cover lines either side. The masterhead is normally coloured to the colour scheme of each individual issue depending of the colours used, in this case white has been used due to the dark background.

• This in particular issue is also highlighting the fact that the film being issued is up for an Oscar, animations of the classic Oscar award have been added around the heading.

• The heading is in a childlike bubble font linking to the movie which is amount one kids childhood and his journey to adulthood.

• The subheading which is also in a playful font gives readers a little insight in to why the movie is an ‘Oscar Front-Runner”.

• Such as the movie took 12 years to make.• The issue is specifically dedicated to the promotion of this film as it

has been popular and long waited for. Entertainment do this quite often, it’s a good way to promote a popular movie at the time , for the magazine and like a second movie poster for the film.

• There is a little promotion above the masterhead which is normal for a featured issue.

• They have almost annotated the main image so that viewers understand, the main actor Ellar Coltrane at the free stages which are highlighted in the film.

• The date is positioned in the top right hand corner, this is a good place to have it as its amongst existing text but has been highlighted. If it was positioned at the bottom is would stick out too much.

Entertainment – American Horror Story•I have decided to do another Entertainment cover however looking at one based around the theme horror. •The composition in this front cover is very different to the one I had analysed before. Even though both images have the same quantity of people both have been adapted in ways that represent their storyline.•This issue on Entertainment is promoting the hit television show American Horror Story, I have linked this in to our task as the programme has been such a big hit due to its capability as a show to be frightening and alarming to viewers. • The image which includes three main characters from the show have taken full control of the front cover which is the main aim. •The whole set up of the image links to the story plot which would only be relatable to fans of the shows which I'm guessing was the whole purpose. A good way of pulling a certain audience in for this issue.•This cover of Entertainment does have many cover lines which devotes the whole thing to the “Cult Hit”.•The colour scheme is well planned out, the master head is red along with subheadings. This is all tied in with one of the outfits worn by the actress. The colour red could also symbolise death with in the show.• It shows a clear structure to the cover.•The heading and subheadings have all been structured in a very unique way, they are all centred in the middle which could be a way for the text to not overshadow the image which is the main feature.•The very few cover lines have been centred under the subheading to create a pattern and not have them plotted randomly around the page.

•The masterhead is being overtaken by the image which could convey power and success of the show.•The magazine has also included headings at the top which might persuade other readers to purchase the magazine even if they're not fans of AHS.•The date/ price/ issue have all been added under the masterhead but not too noticeable as they only have one purpose and are meant to be on every front cover.
