Where you will study: Derby Campus – Kedleston Road andBritannia Mill sites.

Entry requirements: Academic – 280 UCAS tariff points, ofwhich at least 240 must be from yourInternational Baccalaureate or equivalentqualification.

You’ll be able to apply to the Health andCare Professions Council (who haveapproved this course) for registration topractice when you graduate.

About the courseOccupational therapists help people toovercome barriers that are preventingthem from reaching their full potential inareas such as their paid or unpaid work,self-care activities or sports and leisure.You’ll go on three placements, whichcould be in the NHS, Social Services,schools or private and voluntary sectorhealth and social care environments.You’ll also have a personal tutor who willguide and support you to reach your fullpotential.

How you’ll learnYou'll learn through a mixture of theoryand practical work, to prepare you forstarting work when you graduate. You’llbe taught through lectures, seminars,tutorials, group activities, workshops,experiential learning and online learning.You’ll be assessed through assignments,presentations, practice placementassessments, one written and onepractical exam, case study work andproducing a promotional leaflet.

Your careerAs a qualified occupational therapist youcould work in many areas of the NHSsuch as acute medical care,orthopaedics, cardiac rehabilitation,paediatrics, mental health and secureenvironments. You could also work inSocial Services or the private or voluntarysector, in industry, schools, hospitals,health centres and charities. As thiscourse is accredited by the WorldFederation of Occupational Therapists,you’ll also be eligible to apply forregistration to work overseas.

Additional informationYou’ll have the opportunity to study in ourClinical Skills Suite with a fully adaptedassessment rehabilitation kitchen andclinical treatment ward. You’ll studyalongside other students to develop anunderstanding of how you can work withother health and social care professionals.The course has a practical element tohelp you develop the confidence andexperience in many skills required forfuture practice.

What you’ll coverOur teaching team are registeredoccupational therapists who’ve worked ina variety of settings. Specialists inoccupational therapy, service users,patients and carers will also come into theUniversity to share their experiences withyou. In stage three the modules you’llstudy enable you to focus on your ownprofessional interests.
