Global: OCMS is a key graduate research centre that empowers and extends effective ministry and mission globally. Drawn from over 40 nations, OCMS trains global scholars, professionals, church leaders and missionaries at the cutting edge of global transfor-mation and holistic ministry.

Holistic Transformation:: Holistic transformation is our watchword at OCMS. We hold that true discipleship transforms by informed preaching, teaching, and mission that empowers biblical evangelism, and transforms lives and encourages social, economic, ecclesiastical and political progress. We foster research that makes a real difference in the world as our alumni teach globally, develop literacy, address AIDS, empower the poor and serve as peacemakers in war torn nations. It is this total commitment to sound biblical, practical and holistic scholarship that sets OCMS apart from other research centres.

Effective: OCMS’s combination of close student support and flexible residency allows scholars to combine study with ongoing ministry. This results in an excellent degree completion rate and ensures un-interrupted cutting edge ministry where it is needed most. Indeed, the influence and example of our alumni and scholars are our greatest endorsement. With over 100 part-time and full-time scholars from around the globe, OCMS’s decisive impact on church and mission globally is evident.

Academic Excellence and Global Relevance: Commitment to excellence and engaged reflective service among the powerless, persecuted and impoverished peoples of the earth drives OCMS. We nurture our scholars spiritually, socially and academically, by providing sensitive personalised faculty mentoring, guided supervision from leading

global scholars and access to Oxford’s renowned scholarly resources.

Engaged: In combining academic excellence with engaged research, OCMS is committed to raising schol-ars, professionals and church leaders whose research will make a real dif-ference in the world. We work to en-sure that insight and wisdom gained in critical reflection is moving beyond the walls of the academy for a more just and compassionate world.

Support: Our graduates serve in the neediest corners of the globe. They do not come to obtain lucrative jobs. Thus, OCMS relies on the generous donations of caring institutions and individuals who are willing to share in the task of effective global education. Please prayerfully consider joining this great work through your prayers and financial support.

OUR VISION: to equip leaders, scholars and institutions to bring holistic mission effectively and intelligently to the nations.

through close mentoring. This inaugurates a period of flexible residency where our scholars are guided through the writing of a viable proposal and

introduced to potential research supervisors from a pool of leading scholars in their field.

Upon successful registration with the University of Wales, only six weeks of residency is required annually. This not only keeps costs down, it allows scholars to maintain their ongoing ministry. OCMS’s approach to research

allows its scholars to remain active in their contextual ministry so that their research is culturally and situationally informed and relevant.

Our goal is to nurture relevant and engaged research for leaders on the cutting edge of global Christian ministry and mission. To better understand the nature of and real issues facing global Christianity, we nurture groundbreaking scholarship from a global perspective.

To do this, OCMS offers an environment that is culturally sensitive and globally informed. Moreover, its programme offers an attractive and affordable alternative for students from the non-western world.

Our initial four week induction school provides sound preparation for graduate research which is reinforced

Given OCMS’s intellectual and spiritual roots, it is fitting that its campus was once a sanctuary. Oxford’s historic St. Philips and St. James Church is OCMS’s home, and has been beautifully refur-bished as a cutting edge global research centre with a large conference hall, seminar facilities and study carrels fitted with network and internet services.

Nestled in the heart of Oxford, this sanctum for research and reflec-tion contains OCMS’s research library, with over 15,000 volumes, peer reviewed journals and audio-

visual resources. Our students also have access to over 100 leading research libraries including the re-nowned Bodleian Library. Oppor-tunities abound for our scholars to attend seminars and lectures in the leading colleges and research cen-tres of Oxford.

Finally, we are but a short walk from the bustling city centre with its rich history, museums, restaurants, shops, concerts and theatre performances. Undertaking research in the fair city of Oxford is not only a great privilege but also a delight.

OUR MISSION

OXFORD CENTRE FOR MISSION STUDIES

OCMS offers a flexible and affordable graduate degree programme for global church leaders, professionals and missionaries. Flexible residency al-lows research to be culturally informed, ministry connected, and existentially relevant.

The course offered through OCMS and validated by the University of Wales takes place in three stages. Stage one is the OCMS induction that prepares students for graduate research to submit a valid research proposal.

The MPhil. stage begins with University of Wales registration. Under guided supervision, students be-gin to research, reflect and write. This stage culmi-nates with either a successful upgrade to the Ph.D

stage or submission of an MPhil. thesis for examination. Students in residence attend chapel, weekly lectures and present seminar papers as part of their research programme.

During the MPhil./Ph.D stages students in residence meet with their supervisors. OCMS’s supervisory network allows for a wide range of research interests including theology, biblical studies, human development, professional practice and missiology, which in turn creates the thriving cross disciplinary

research culture of OCMS.

The Ph.D stage is completed upon successful examination of the doctoral thesis and the conferral of the doctoral degree.

RESEARCH ASSOCIATES: be to put together a portfolio, presentation or suit-able publication for our peer reviewed journal Transformation.

Research associates enjoy the benefits of OCMS including faculty support, use of computer facilities, access to the OCMS and Oxford University libraries, as well as participation in lectures and seminars.

Successful completion of the program affords the title of Research Associate.

Our newly minted Research Associate’s programme is a flexible, individualised, inclusive programme that provides both a suitable environment and mentoring support for senior level missionaries, teachers or d e v e l o p m e n t a i d practitioners who wish to research, reflect upon and enhance their understanding of their work.

As such, the Research Associate programme allows for part-time or full-time s t u d y a t O C M S . The culmination of which will

OCMS’s distinctive approach to supervision begins with nine core faculty members. The faculty manages the programme, oversees research interest groups and provides student support and guidance. Individual supervision is provided by senior multi-disciplinary scholars from Britain and around the world who guide the student’s research and writing. Both benefit in that students receive superb supervision and scholars gain critical insight into the nature of and issues confronting global Christianity.
