Reading II 2 Timothy 2:8-13 (Paul’s faithfulness to the

Gospel Luke 17:11-19 (ten lepers)
Key Passage Then one of the lepers, when he saw that he was
healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. He
prostrated himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. And he was
a Samaritan. (Luke 17:15-16)
Adult Whose generosity do you tend to take for granted? How
will you change this?
Child When have you failed to say thank you? Why does this
matter?
FORMED - pick of the week
True Reformers, Episode 5: Teresa of Avila
Wealthy and headstrong, Teresa was an unlikely choice for
a great reformer. But after years as a complacent Carmelite,
she learned from divine inspiration what living totally for
God could be.
Prayer Shawl Ministry: Our meeting will resume this coming
Wednesday, October 16th, at 7:00 pm in Our Lady's social
hall. All skill levels are welcome. We will gladly teach those
people who are eager to learn how to knit or crochet.
Letter From the Bishop
Included in this week’s bulletin is a letter from Bishop
Gainer, in which he refers to a survey. Copies of that
survey as well as FAQ sheets regarding the material in
the letter have been placed in the back of both
churches as well as the side entrance of Our Lady’s.
Please feel free to take a copy of both.
Father’s Forum NET (National Evangelization Teams) MINISTRIES. This is part of a letter that I received from Paul Ives, Ministry
Partnership Coordinator
“NET Ministries is grateful for the faith formation that Vanessa
Valovage has received from your community prior to becoming a
NET missionary and we are grateful for the ministry partnership
coming from parishioners who have supported Vanessage (that is
how it is written in the letter) with both their financial gifts and
prayers….In this upcoming year the travelling teams of NET
ministries will reach over 90,000 youth with the Gospel while five
Discipleship teams will spend hundreds of hours evangelizing
youth through faith formation classes, small groups and other
discipleship activities that help Catholic youth enter into a deeper
relationship with Christ…… Their witness is a great testament to
others in demonstrating that the Gospel is alive and relevant with
today’s Catholic youth across the country….. Thank you for
sharing Vanessage (Vanessa) with us. We are grateful for the
sacrifice and generous service Vanessage (Vanessa) will make this
year for Catholic youth.”

CATECHESIS ON ANGELS
By Jim Gontis
Department: Evangelization and Catechesis
Part III
St. Augustine teaches us that each angel is its own species. The
only proper names of angels that we know with certainty are the
names of the three archangels named in Scripture: Saints
Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael. Because we do not know the
names of the other angels, we are not to name angels, including
our Guardian Angels, cf. Directory for Popular Piety #271.
Naming shows a certain authority over. Parents name their
children, children do not name their parents.
Following up on the previous point, our Guardian Angels have
each been given a different name by God, as has every other
angel. If we named them, we would almost certainly be calling
them by a different name than God gave them. It would be as if
my name were James (it is) and someone who does not know my
name decided he was going to call me Bob, even though he has
no earthly idea what my real name is. I might think that a bit
odd. I dare say that you might as well. Besides, we do not have
authority over our Guardian Angels, though God has given them
some authority over us---“to light and guard, to rule and guide.”
The depiction of angels as little cherubs as we often see on
Christmas cards is not an accurate depiction. Angels are
extremely powerful spiritual beings with great powers of
intellect and will. Following on the prior point, angels never
become babies and babies never become angels…babies can
become saints, but not angels. Human persons always retain
human nature, even unto eternity. Angels always retain angelic
nature, even unto eternity. Because they are awesome creatures,
when angels do take on physical appearance and appear to
human beings in Scripture, very frequently the first words they
must say to those humans to whom they appear are: “Fear not.”
Word Of Life – October 2019 Intercessions For Life: October 13th For all who have been wounded by participating in abortion:
May they receive healing I Christ’s mercy and glorify the Lord;
We Pray To The Lord.
“With the help of an abortion healing ministry, couples can
successfully work through abortion-related challenges. God’s
grace can bring true healing to the relationships of those who
trust in His infinite mercy.” USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life
Activities
We are looking for a couple of volunteers from both
parishes who would be willing to launder the ministry
albs(robes) for their parish. Please contact the parish office
if you are interested in volunteering. (717)453-7895.
