About the PlayersAbout the Players he had a part he wanted her for, because the character had to be really weird. Beth’s good at that. When she’s not being weird on stage, she works as an administrative assis-tant for the Lancaster County government.
Lydia Jones (Ruth Hunsdorfer) is delighted to be perform-ing at SSC again after Into the Woods this past summer. Having grown up on stage with the Lancaster Academy for the Performing Arts, she is actively pursuing a career in musical theater. After spending last year in Messiah Col-lege’s BFA program, she is training locally with plans to continue her collegiate education in performing arts. Fa-vorite past roles include Pitti-Sing (Hot Mikado), Anna (The King & I), Miss Dorothy (Thoroughly Modern Millie), and Jane (Pride & Prejudice). Many thanks to the inspiring and supportive friends and family and most of all to the Lord!
Georgie Reardon (Beatrice Hunsdorfer) is thrilled to be per-forming in her third play at Susquehanna Stage. She has been seen here before as Clairee in Steel Magnolias and Helga the German maid in Night Watch. Her character Beatrice in this play is a 360 degree turn from any other part she has ever done. Georgie lives in Landisville with her husband, Pat. She would like to thank her family and friends for all the support they give her, and to Jim Johnson for believing in her to do justice to this role.
Chinonso (Peter the Rabbit) is a Mansfield, PA resident and is tickled pink to be making his debut at Susquehanna Stage! It is so kind of his owner, Lydia Akey-Cleveland, to allow us to burrow him for this production. Although he is unseasoned, it hasn’t been a hare-raising experience, and he doesn’t carrot all that he had to travel far and spend time rehearsing. He's hoping this stage experience will make him a billionhare! In fact, he hopes his stardom will keep going and going and going...
About the PlayersAbout the Players Eileen Cushey (Nanny) was last seen on the SSC stage as Jack’s Mother in Into the Woods. She spent the past three years as a cast member at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire. Prior to this Eileen appeared in a number of SSC pro-ductions including Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Fac-tory, Our Town, and Sound of Music. She is very pleased to have the whole family back together at SSC and thanks the Johnsons, the Mackisons, and all of those who have made her feel so welcomed in her return to her home stage. Let’s keep making magic!
Niamh Cushey (Janice Vickery) is excited to get back on stage with the Susquehanna Stage Company. She last ap-peared as a Raccoon Twin in Peter Pan, but in between performances could be found working costumes and backstage. Niamh is a freshman at Donegal High School, where she is an Honor Student and involved in Track and Field and Chorus. She would like to thank Jim and Jac-quee Johnson for all their support and encouragement and is pleased to be a part of the SSC family.
Lauren Elledge (Tillie Hunsdorfer) is thrilled to return to Sus-quehanna Stage after portraying Peter Pan here last sum-mer and Annie in 2012, and to work with this wonderful group of people. Other credits: Jane Banks (Mary Pop-pins), Mary Lennox (Secret Garden), JoJo (Seussical), Helen Keller (Miracle Worker), Susan Walker (Miracle on 34th), Lee Bouvier (Grey Gardens). Previously: Fulton Thea-tre, Dutch Apple, EPAC, CAFE. Many thanks to teachers, family, and friends whom she loves and who always sup-port her! Beth Gable (Janice Vickery) This is Beth’s fifth appearance on the SSC stage, though her first one as Beth Gable, since she got married in May. She was most recently seen as Sally Simpson in last year’s holiday show, A 1940s Radio Christmas Carol. Back in August, Jim called her and said
From the DirectorFrom the Director
Some plays jump right off the page and into our hearts. The dialogue is rich, real, and honest and the relationships among the characters are complex, multi-dimensional and interesting. The setting is vivid and strange—unknown but complete, fully realized and full of life. The plot is dense, layered and compelling. The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds is all these things and so much more. Paul Zindel’s Pulitzer Prize winning play has been called, “the most compel-ling work of its kind since Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menag-erie” (Variety). A very heady comparison indeed! Zindel himself has summed up his writing and this play:
“We all, most basically, create and tell stories to solve problems. We conjure all sorts of strange characters, march them into frantic conflict with each other, and, at the end of the battle, hope we’ve learned something. It is important, too, that those who read and hear our stories find answers for their own lives. We look for insights, epiphanies, that shed light on humanness, tolerance, an-guish, and compassion. We want to glimpse who we really are and understand why we’re on this planet.”
I am both grateful and blessed to be able to produce and present plays and musicals of this caliber at Susquehanna Stage Company. I am honored to work with and humbled by the actors who breathe life into the characters and the tal-ented artists who work behind the scenes. It is with great joy that our work continues here at SSC. Thank you for supporting our efforts and enjoy the play! Jim Johnson (Proverbs 3:5-6) Founding Artistic Director
