Senator John Walsh has released a ederal reportthat chronicles the growth o rail tra ic and its impacton local communities. Walsh in March commissioned the report romthe Government Accounting O ice (GAO). A terWalsh called or the report, the GAO sent researchersacross the country, including to Billings, Glendive, and Williston, ND, to assess recent rail tra ic trends, particularly those patterns associated with the oilboom in the Bakken. Te report calls or Congressional attentionto ederal in rastructure investments related tocongestion relie as major reight lines ofen go throughcity centers and can pose a chall enge to public sa ety. his report shows we have a lot o work aheado us to protect local communities as reight tra icincreases on Montana roads and railways, Walshsaid. hat means keeping up with the pace o good jobs created in the Bakken by adopting policies torelieve reight congestion. Im committed to workingwith my colleagues and willing partners in the railindustry to pass a strong, long-term highway bill thatprioritizes public and private investment in rail androad in rastructure. he Department o ransportation expectsreight tra ic to rise 51% in tonnage rom 2007 to2040, in part due to limited oil pipeline capacity. he GAOs ull report is available at http://www.gao.gov/products/GAO-14-740

Montanans must protect our right to vote onElection Day. Election Day registration has allowedover 28,000 Montanans the reedom to register and vote on the same day since its creation in 2005. Tisis especially important to returning military, seniorcitizens, students and the average busy American. Tisensures less obstacles or those wanting their voice to beheard. Montanas voting system is one o the top in ourcountry, so why change something that isnt broken? For the past decade Montanans have used this methodwithout any issues. Tis November a re erendum toeliminate Election Day registration (LR-126) will appearon the ballot. Tis would place unneeded difficulties inront o Montana voters. Shouldnt we want more peopleto vote? As a Montanan I believe in our right to vote. So joinme in voting no on this un air re erendum this all.

recited Maggie (about a goodcow dog with better grammar thanher owner) and A Cost ReturnAnalysis (about the vagaries o thecow business). Mongolia has one-roomschoolhouses or herders childrenthat are very similar to allow Creek. When Badamgarav BadmaaDovchin visited allow Creek andheld a program about Mongolia orthe allow Creek students in 2013,she told them about her experiencesattending prairie schools. Hermother was a prairie school teacher.Badmaa played the Mongoliangood morning school song ShineUgluu (about bright new morningsor discovery and learning) or thestudents. With Badmaas help overthe internet, Zora and Linden wereable to learn part o Shine Ugluuand sing it or their guests. Te students also sang inCzech, Jednou budem dl (We

Shall Overcome). Tey ollowedwith their end-o -year spelling bee.Linden spelled three words be orebeing stymied by tub. Zora played Swinging Alongon the piano. Linden still makesonly limited sense o written music, but was still able to wow the crowdby picking out the Star WarsTeme by ear. Afer the program, we allenjoyed a delicious potluck mealand swapping stories out in ront othe school. Wesley Orahood told usthat when he was going to schoolour book storage room was the coalshed. Tat explains why it is leaksso much heat out and so many micein! At that time, it wasnt attached tothe school, and the boys would walkout to it to ll the coal scuttle or theteacher. In those days, the schooltruly did have only one room andthe teacher curtained off a corner

or her own use. By the time Rose Stonebergwas attending school there, the coalshed had been moved, attached

to the main school building, andconverted to a teacherage. Sheremembers two teachers living inthe tiny, uninsulated, mousy room, lled to beyond capacity with awood stove and bed. Afer Rosegraduated, Washington School wasmoved to the site, attached to allowCreek School, and converted to anew teacherage. oday, the old coal shedhouses only shelves and shelves ocurriculum and teaching materialsand a lot o mouse traps. One o thestudents dreams is to raise enough

money that the old coal shed can bereplaced with a new room that willkeep the warmth in and the miceout (and maybe even keep the booksa little more organized.) It was a beauti ul springprogram and picnic. Our thanksgo to the people that came to shareit with us. Our thoughts were also

with all the riends o the school thatwere not able to be with us becauseo brandings, broken down tractors, animal emergencies, amily illness, etc. All o you are special to us andhelp to make this community thewonder ul place that it is. Te riends o the allow CreekSchool are happy to report thatMcKee Anderson has offered toprovide steel or a new roo or theschool. A generous $5000 grantrom Montana History Foundation,Montana Preservation Alliance, andauthor Charlotte Caldwell will go artoward making a new roo a reality. Additional unds are beingraised by the students through aninternet crowd unding campaign

that you can nd at http://igg.me/at/littlewhiteschool. (Perhaps someo you will notice that the campaigndoesnt mention last names or thename o the school... the internet isa very big place.)
