As the temperatures begin to subside and the day’s light grows shorter I can visibly see that the days of summer are over and autumn is in full swing. When the leaves begin to fall the trees will look barren and there is something about seeing the branches of the trees without their leaves that intrigues me. Each

tree is unique with branches spreading out in all different directions. You can see where some branches have broken off, and where others have begun to grow within recent years. It is at this time of year that I am always reminded of the writing of Paul in Romans 11 when he speaks about how Gentiles are grafted into the family of Israel. Jews that did not put their faith and trust in Jesus were broken off from the family of Israel as Paul writes, “they were broken off because of their unbelief.” And Gentiles that have faith in Jesus and His saving work on the cross are grafted into the family of Israel, much like a tree branch is grafted into a tree. Indeed Paul claims that we will be able to say, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” Because of the work of Jesus and what He accomplished we have been made a part of the family of Israel. We are no longer outsiders looking in, but rather we can say the same words as the Apostle John, “we are God’s children now.” We have been made a part of the family tree through faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ. And just as the branches of a tree receive their nourishment from the root, so we too receive our nourishment from God. He supports us in our daily struggles in life, and He holds on to us even when the days seem colder and we appear to be in the autumn of our life. We have no need to worry or fear, because we know that one day spring will come again. We will live in newness of life with Him forever.

and continue until 7:00 pm. It is a safe place for you to wear costumes and fellow-

ship with others.

Come join our Bible Study led by Pastor Rolf. We meet in the Fellowship Hall every Wednesday evening from 6:30 until 7:45. We will be studying the

“Catechism” and “Book of Concord”. This will be a very interesting and enlightening study.

Wednesday Evening Bible Study

New Class

Overview of the Lutheran Faith Pastor will be hosting a new class designated for non-members interested in learning more about the Lutheran faith. If you know someone that might

be interested in learning more about our Lutheran faith (like a neighbor or friend) please let them know about this class and encourage them to attend. This class will have three (3) sessions on Saturday mornings from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. The dates are November 7th, 14th and 21st. Fore more information about this class please contact Pastor Rolf.

The topic for the October 2015 Circle Meetings is in the Fall Quarterly on page 18, entitled “Sisters of the Heart”. As sisters, we know each oth-er. We know each others’ virtues as well as our faults, our triumphs and

our catastrophes. In our Bible study, we will study Biblical sisters as well as our sisters in Christ. Roll call word is “sister” or “friend”. Alpha Circle will meet the first Monday, October 5th at the home of Ruth Brackman with Cindy McCubbin as her co-hostess. Topic will be led by Cindy McCubbin. Dorily Miller will check the Acolyte robes for laundering or mending needs. For more information, please call the President of Alpha Circle, Elaine Nolen, at 816-358-1773. Esther Circle will meet the second Saturday, October 10th, at 10:00 am in the Fellowship Hall with Norma Derringer hosting the meeting. Topic will be led by Kathy Boehm. Fall Rally - Kansas City South Zone will hold the Fall Rally on October 27th, 2015 at Peace Lutheran Church, 8240 Blue Ridge Boulevard, Kansas City, MO.

Registration 9:00 am Opening Devotion 9:30 am Cost $5.00 Rally Theme: “Walk by Faith not by Sight”.

Mrs. Carol Crawford, a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Grandview, MO will be the Rally speaker. She will share her families’ trial and heartaches in raising a child with special needs. News Tidbits - “Give Thanks Unto The Lord”. A Harvest Table will be set up in the atrium to collect canned goods for the needy. Let us fill the table to overflowing and share our blessings with families in need. “Water, Water, Clean water -- The LWML adopted “Clean Water” project, voted at the Des Moines Biennial Convention as one of our Mission Projects. We plan to concentrate our mites on this $50,000.00 grant. Bake Sale - Sponsored by the LWML, will be held November 15, 2015. Proceeds to help Beautiful Savior Home Auxiliary in Belton, MO. Baked goods will be gladly accepted and should be brought to the church on Saturday, November 14th between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Funds raised will be used for Beautiful Savior resident’s Christmas gifts. Praise God for the LWML women and their com-mitment to serve others. Ruth Oexman, LWML Publicity

Sewing Bee

The ladies plan to meet every Monday in October. We meet in the Fellowship Hall at 9:30 AM. Bring a sack lunch and stay into the afternoon. By mid September we had

completed 13 quilts this year. They will be given away in December. Remember to save your Best Choice UPC’s, “Box Tops for Education” and “Labels for Education”. Also save your cancelled postage stamps and leave a 1/3 inch margin of envelope around the stamp. Wrapped bars of soap from hotels are also welcomed. Containers for these are on the shelf in the Narthex.

Mark Your Calendar!

Are you ready for an exciting weekend - one that offers a get-away from your regular humdrum schedule? Three days that offers the opportunity to hear from and talk with some exceptional

artists (musicians, visual artists, writers, etc.) about the connection between their Christian faith and their art? Then mark you calendar for a trip to the St. Louis Seminary on October 3-5. Wouldn’t it be nice to join President and Mrs. Meyer for a special lunch-eon? If you haven’t met and interacted with this dynamic pair, you’ll be in for a treat. Watch for more information about this new event entitled “Faith Walk” in the upcoming newsletters.

Knit/Crochet Group

The knit/crochet group meets every Tuesday morning at 10:00 in the Matthew/Mark Room and every Thursday evening at

5:30 in the Fellowship Hall. They create booties for newborn children. Come join them. If you don’t know how to knit or crochet, Lois Gilham will teach you. Handmade or store bought donations are always welcome. Place your donations in the pink basket located in the narthex under the shelf.

Book Club

Every August, four women would gather together to spend a week at the beach, renting a new house each year. The ritual began when they were in their twenties and their husbands were in medical school, and became a mainstay of every summer thereafter. Their only criteria was oceanfront and

isolation, their only desire to strengthen their far-flung friendships. They called themselves the Girls of August. But when one of the Girls dies tragically, the group slowly drifts apart and their vacations together are brought to a halt. Years later, a new marriage reunites them and they decide to come together once again on a remote barrier island off the South Carolina coast. There, far from civilization, the women make startling discoveries that will change them in ways they never expected.

The Book Club will meet Wednesday, October 28th at 9:30 am in the Social Room.

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod is offering a special grant opportunity, Stand with Your Community Grant Program, in recognition of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. $1 million is available for this grant opportunity. A primary focus of the projects funded by these grants is to inspire and empower laity to actively en-gage in local witness and mercy outreach events and opportunities as a reflection of Martin Luther’s unrelenting passion for all to know the true Gospel.

Description One-time grants Amount range: $1,000 to $25,000. Project term range: from a single event to a

two-year program. A new project, revision of a previous effort or strengthening of an ongoing effort.

Outreach program or activity

Criteria The project must: Reflect the primary purpose of the Stand with

Your Community Grant Program; Have strong lay involvement; Be an outreach effort to the local community

focusing on the unserved, underserved or cross-cultural communities (e.g., church neighborhood, inner city, mission plant, rural community, spe-cial population or ethnic community);

Have clear, measurable project outcomes (see FAQ); and

Include a shared financial commitment (applicant contributes financially or in-kind to the project).

Applicants are encouraged to partner with others in a joint effort to accomplish desired goals. Partners may include other churches, community or-ganizations, social-service agencies, Recognized Ser-vice Organizations, mission societies, camps and so on.

Do you have a project idea? If so, please advise the council leadership or the church office.

Stand with Your Community Grant Program

September saw many events at Peace and that took a significant number of volunteers working behind the scenes. To those who have maintained the property, assisted with worship and/or

Sunday School, to those who had a part in the meet and greet for our Director of Music, to those working on the LUMA meeting, to those involved with Mission Sunday and/or LWML Sunday, to those helping with the 35th anniversary celebration for Pastor Malone, and so much more. Our Lord has given us each different gifts and skills and YOU are appreciated for sharing your time, skills, and support! Remember the words from the song “I just feel like something good is about to happen” composed by William J Gaither? That seems to apply to Peace except perhaps the words need to be “I just feel like something good is happening.”

Are you a Thrivent Financial Member with Thrivent Choice Dollars available? Members become eligible for Choice Dollars based on insurance premiums, contract values, and Thrivent volunteer leadership. Eligible members are designated Choice Dollars that they can direct to enrolled charities. Peace Lutheran Church is one of those charities. If you designate your dollars to go to Peace you can inform Mark Harms, our treasurer, if you wish those dollars to go toward a specific ministry or purpose. For example: music ministry, maintenance fund, Grow in Peace, etc. Thank you for the dollars that have been given to Peace over the years!

Each dollar makes a difference.

Beautiful Savior

Have you already started pulling 2016 calendars out of your mailbox? You know the ones I’m talking about - the beautiful patriotic or flower ones with an accompa-nying suggested donation? For the next

four (4) Septembers or so, bring those calendars to church and put in Peggy Noah’s or Punky McDan-iel’s box so they can take them to Beautiful Savior Home in Belton. Many, many calendars are used in residents’ rooms during the year and need replacing each time the rooms have new occupants. This is such an easy way to provide a much needed service. All calendars are appreciated.

ing infants are kept safe from pinched fingers!
