The mission of our congregation is to multiply and equip the children of God’s household!

Lost and Found

When she turned twenty-one, Tammy Harris from Roanoke, Virginia, began

searching for her biological mother. After a year, she had not succeeded. What

she didn’t know was that her mother, Joyce Schultz, had been trying to locate her

for twenty years.

According to the story that appeared in newspapers all over the country, there was

one more thing that Tammy didn’t know. Her mother was one of her co-workers

at the convenience store where she worked! One day, Joyce overheard Tammy

talking with another co-worker about trying to find her mother. Soon they were

comparing birth certificates. When Tammy realized that the co-worker she had

known was in fact her mother, she fell into her arms. “We held on for the longest

time,” Tammy said. “It was the best day of my life!”

Maybe you are like Tammy Harris. You’ve been searching for someone or

something that has been missing in your life. You’ve been trying to find someone

or something to give you meaning or purpose—or a sense of belonging—or

happiness—or love.

What you may not have realized is that someone has also been searching for you—

and that someone is closer than you think. God has been close to you all the time,

and God is waiting for you to make the discovery that your heavenly parent is not

only searching for you but is calling you home in love to a closer relationship with

you. Just fall into God’s arms. And when you do, it will be the best day of your

life!

“Seek the Lord while he may be found. Call upon him while he is near.” The

church offers you a time to reconnect with God and with one another. Know the

love of God and experience a place where you can find that love with other

seekers. Your pastors want you to know that God loves you and has a purpose for

your life. We invite you to hear the word of God, to know the love of God and

to live the power of God in your life.

Trinity Lutheran Church will again be hosting a community Thanksgiving meal on

Thursday, November 24. We will be needing individuals to set up, cook, serve and

clean-up! Would you or your entire family be willing to help?

If you would like to volunteer your time, monetary donation, supplies, or food, please

contact the church office 394-2552, Susanne Hauge 641-425-8986 or Bob & Kathy

Beckman 394-4456.

A free will donation will be requested for the meal and all proceeds will go to the

Chickasaw County Food Pantry.

Thanks for your contributions to the Mission Cross in September. There will be lots of

smiles on the faces of local school children throughout the year as they get a bag that will

produce a birthday cake just for them! For October, we will collect supplies for the local

Food Pantry. Our emphasis will be on personal care and paper goods: lotion, shampoo and

conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, shower gel, soap, toilet paper, Kleenex,

paper towels, laundry products.

Muriel Meyer, Danice Larson, Mike and Kathy Babcock

will serve for the Altar Guild in October.

Communion Dates: October 1, 2, 12, 15 & 16

Thanks to Nancy Morris, Joy Hall, Paul and Kathy Braithwaite

for serving in September.

October 2nd, we will have our annual Polka Band Worship during the 9:00 am worship service. Remember to share the love and invite your friends and neighbors to attend.

Music will be provided by Big Ben and the Brians. An offering will be received at the service for a love gift for their time with us. So dig out your Lederhosen, and have a great time!

**********************************************************************************************************

The book to read for October will be, Kite Runner by Khalad Hassini. The group

will meet at the home of Dave and Jane Kraft on October 18th, at 7:00 pm.

On Sunday, October 30 at the 9:00 am service, we will be confirming fourteen of our

Trinity ninth graders: Brayden Anderson, Aaliyah Boss, Austin Brincks, Mariah Darling, Madison

Hoeck, Jessica Kuennen, Allison Nuss, Morgan Nuss, Elijah Nymeyer,Emma Reicherts, Rachel

Rinken, Laney Roberson, Alexa Wemark and Madison Wenzlaff.

They are reminded to pick up their robes and have paid their $18 robe rental fee by October 24.

On Wednesday, October 26 at 7:30 p.m. we will have practice and take confirmation pictures with

their robes. Remember your picture order forms and money.

There will be a decorated bag for each confirmand placed on the railing in front of the stained

glass window as you enter the sanctuary. These bags are available for you to place a note of your

choosing for each young person. It isn't necessary for you to know each one personally –

you already know each one has a special place in God's family. It's nice to let them know we

appreciate their presence in our church family.

Youth to pack meals for world hunger…

On Sunday, October 9th, confirmation and high school youth are invited to join together with other youth from

our community to pack meals for the hungry of our world. We are hoping to pack 12,000 meals on that day.

The meals will be a one bag meal which will serve six people per meal bag. The event will take place in our

Trinity Fellowship Hall from 12:30-3 pm.

This will again be in place of the CROP Walk. 25% of these meals will go to our local food pantry in New

Hampton, which in turn will give a portion to the Nashua and Fredericksburg food pantries. 75% of the

packaged meals will go to 3rd world countries. After paying for the cost of the meals, any leftover cash funds

will be given to the New Hampton Food Pantry and to CROP.

Each packaged meal bag costs $1.50. The bag serves six people so the meals cost $0.25 per person. We need

your help in paying for the meals.

Can you give enough to cover…

10 bags=60 meals=$15

One box=36 bags=216 meals=$54

One pallet=55 boxes=11,880 meals=$2,970 Nearly the total amount of what we will pack.

Please see a confirmation youth or you can give your gift in the offering plate with a memo “For Kids Against

Hunger”. You can also give your gift at the church office. Thank you for your help in this important project

to feed the hungry. 100% of your gifts are used for the meals and packaging and your gift is tax deductible.

and how we serve those around us. Youth will be invited to bring non-perishable food items to support the

UNI Student Food Pantry. We will leave the church parking lot at 7 pm on Friday and return home by 7 am on

Saturday morning. We do need a couple of drivers and another chaperone who can stay the night. Please see

Pr. Kevin.

**********************************************************************************************************

President Report: I would like to give a financial update, as I see things going this year, and ask for your help. As of 8-31-16, our general fund

was down to only $1,567.22 vs $30,351.83 at the beginning of the year. While we do have a fair amount of money in our

overall account (other funds, to keep us going), it is very important that we start taking in more money for our general fund to

cover related operating expenses (majority for salaries & benefits). Our income (giving to the general fund) is $59,886 short,

YTD, of what we had budgeted (only at 74% of our projected budgeted income YTD). If it wasn’t for non-salary related

expenses being down considerably YTD vs budget, we would be in a much worse financial situation. As of 8-31, we have

taken in $171,063.74 YTD for our general fund vs our “planned/budgeted” amount of $230,950 YTD. We have spent

$173,153.65 YTD on related salaries & benefits, which is actually less than our budgeted amount of $181,340.37 YTD. If we

continue to spend more than we take in (which has unfortunately been our pattern the past couple of years), at some point, we

will need to consider/make some “hard” decisions and that time might need to be sooner than later. Please re-consider what

you now give and ask yourself if you can do better. If you don’t attend church much (or at all), please consider coming back

and helping your church out, as we need & want you! Together, we can make a positive difference. Thank you! I would

also like to give a special thanks to all that have helped out & volunteered in so many ways this year, again, it is greatly

appreciated!
