SOUTHERN COLORADO BARREL RACING ASSOCIATION
Who are we? Our 27th season - 2018
We, as barrel racers, felt a need for an association that can provide all of us with competition and ex-
cellence in barrel racing. So as a group, we organized the SCBRA in 1991. Our goal is to organize and raise
the level of competition and improve barrel racing as a sport.
As a member of SCBRA, you will earn points with us in the OPEN, SENIOR, YOUTH and NOVICE
HORSE classes. As you rack up points in your own organization, money earned from the sanctioned races
listed below will be accumulated dollar-for-dollar in SCBRA in accordance with our 2017/2018 Rule Book.
These earnings will be accumulated for our year-end awards to be held in early October. Please contact our
President Amanda Eggleston ([email protected]) to join our family! Check us out at SCBRA.com.

SCBRA NEWSLETTER 4 October 2017
Q: How do I fill out my SCBRA Point Card correctly? Could you give me some guidelines &
an example?
A: 1. Please fill out 1 Card for each SCBRA division you are entered in.
2. Good penmanship is appreciated!
3. Your point card is due by the 7th of the month following the month you won the money.
For Example: Any money won in November is due to the SCBRA Secretary by Decem-
ber 7th. Must be emailed by the 7th OR Postmarked by the 7th.
HINT: Put a monthly reminder in your phone so you don’t forget to send your
point card in!!
4. Please see the example of a filled-out point card attached to the email. Your card
doesn’t have to be exactly like this, it is just an example.
Here are a few things to remember:
A. Horse’s name only needs to be included for the Novice Horse division
B. In the Column where it says Prod/ IN or OUT, please write who the Producer was.
(NBHA, MHBH, JCJ, TWP, FFRC, etc.) Abbreviations are best since there isn’t a lot of
room. Also, include if the race was IN or OUT of SCBRA’s boundaries. Refer to
your monthly Newsletter; each race says IN or OUT beside it. Only 3 OUT’s are al-
lowed per month. HINT: As soon as you get home from a SCBRA approved
race, go write the info. on your point card, right then while it’s fresh on
your mind!! Taking a picture of the results before leaving the race helps
insure you have the information handy!
C. Include the town, your run time, approximate number entered in race, entry fee,
your placing and most importantly how much money you won!
D. If the race was a MONEY MAKER race, please write MONEY MAKER beside that race
& show that you did indeed double your winnings. Such as writing $157 X 2 =
$314. Money Makers are indicated in the Newsletter.
E. Please ADD up the money won for the month and write amount at the bottom of
page where it says Total Money Accumulated for Current Month. Also, where it
says Previously Accumulated Money, please fill that out. HINT: before sending
each month’s point card to the Secretary…fill this line out for the next
month!! Lastly, please put down the Total Money Won Year-To-Date. This helps
the Secretary know you both have the same totals!!
If you have any Questions: please email: [email protected]

SCBRA NEWSLETTER 6 October 2017
2017 Annual Membership Meeting Minutes
The SCBRA 2017 Annual Membership Meeting was held at Latigo Trails arena on Sat. Oct.
7th, 2017. The finals race was held just prior to the meeting with 78 entries.
President, Pam Ferguson called the meeting to order. She praised the SCBRA Board for a
job well done.
Secretary, Brenda McMahan read the minutes from last year’s annual meeting.
Treasurer, Mary Carson gave the treasurers report.
Balance as of 10/4/17 - $1836.24 & we have $334 in Petty Cash. We owe: $1000 for 1st in Open Award, $600 for
arena use for Finals/Kick-Off race. The Amount spent on awards was $4866.00
Pam thanked Bob Harrison & Latigo Trails for allowing us to have our finals and kick off rac-
es at their beautiful facility and ask that everyone please pick up after themselves and their
horses.
Everyone was reminded to turn in their point cards today.
Changing the way Producers pay SCBRA was then discussed. The board suggested that in-
stead of producers paying $50 for the year (or $10 per race if they have 5 or less races)
that we give them the following two options. 1) Pay $15 per race OR 2) Put on at least
one SCBRA Money Maker race per year. After their Money Maker race(s), they would pay
SCBRA $5.00 per open entry from that Money Maker race. Producers may choose to in-
crease their entry fee by $5.00 for the money maker races. The vote Passed with 5 no’s &
the remainder voting yes.
The next item to be discussed was the way the SCBRA Awards are structured. The pros and
cons were discussed regarding giving awards in each D versus awards being based on over-
all money won. Carol Ruggieri made the motion that we keep it the same as it has been,
awarding the top 30% in each group (Open, NH, 50+ & Youth) as of July 1st. The top mon-
ey earner in any divisions with 20 or more members in the standing on July 1st will be
awarded a saddle IF funds are available. Donna Burdzinski seconded the motion. The vote
was 17 Yes & 9 No’s. The awards structure will stay the same.
Nathalie Snyder made a motion that “if a “Limited” race rolls into an Open race held
on the same day, the Open race would now count for SCBRA points. The
“Limited” race still would not count for SCBRA points”. Mary Carson made a second
& it passed easily.
SCBRA NEWSLETTER 7 October 2017
Out of Boundary races were then discussed. Mary Carson made a motion that instead of 2 out of boundary races counting for SCBRA points per month, could it be increased to 3 per month? Donna Burdzinski seconded the mo-tion. The vote was 14 in favor & 7 against. The rule will be changed to the following: “Three barrel races per month per division that are outside of the SCBRA boundaries may count for SCBRA points. All other races must be within the association boundaries. All approved barrel races are in Colorado”.
Discussion ensued regarding changing the rule that says SCBRA Finals/ Kick off races must
be within 1 year of the previous year’s races. Donna Burdzinski made a motion that the rule
be changed to say: “SCBRA Finals/Kick Off races have the flexibility to be scheduled
within 30 days before or after the first weekend in October each year”. Charla
Cook made a second and it passed. The rule will be updated.
Currently Producers must get their race information to the SCBRA Editor at least 4 days prior to their race date. It was voted on & passed to change the rule to read: “Races must be advertised in the SCBRA Newsletter or special approval postmarked or emailed by the day be-fore the date of the barrel race or entry deadline, if applicable.” Everyone was reminded of the Awards Banquet to be held tomorrow Sunday, Oct. 8th at Latigo Trails. If unable to attend, please let a board member know who will be picking up your awards. Nomination of Officers for 2018 are as follows: President – Amanda Eggleston Vice President – Peggy Yopp Secretary – Brenda McMahan Treasurer – Mary Carson Editor – Jennifer McElroy Awards Director – Tanya Ketchum with Karina Price & Jessi Mead helping as needed Finals Director – Jamie Harrison All Officers were unanimously voted into office. Pam then introduced the new President & Vice President to eve-ryone. Meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted by Brenda McMahan, 2018 Secretary.
