Dear Hilton Friends,
Fall is here! The air is crisp, the furnace is on and leaves are turning
yellow. The village is decked in mums and straw, and Hilton Presby-
terian is as busy as ever! What a joy is ours to serve God in such a
wonderful church!
Stewardship Season begins. This week we’ve en-
velopes ready for you—an encouraging word
from our stewardship team and a pledge card for
2016. Our theme this year is “You are the seed!
Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for God.”
Think of that! Every day brings a bounty of grace. Our cups overflow!
We are rich for the gifts we receive. But do we truly embrace every
gift, each one, as a means for our honoring God? As Christ lives in us,
we are seeds from which his mercies grow. Our lives, our talents, our treasures and
songs—they might sing for Christ in his church today. For we know mercies in Sunday
School, youth trips, home visits and choir, Brikin and PORT, support groups and prayer,
in preaching and teaching, compassion and love, for justice and truth in our village and
world. We find it here in the good news we share. We live it, we give it, “as we serve,
we are transformed.” It sure is a blessing to be a part of that wit-
ness. For the church, I pray, you consider a most faithful pledge.
Be ready to welcome members of our sister church Brikin! They
come from the Presbytery of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic
of Congo. Rev. Berthe Nzeba and two members of their congre-
gation will be here Oct. 26 – Nov. 2. Thanks to all who are
providing rooms, meals and travel! They’ll all be here for worship
on November1. Rev. Nzeba will preach the Word and our choir
will have some Brikin-spun music to share. We pray our guests may return to their
homes in Brikin with loads of Hilton love to share. To our sister church we say, Dieu vous
bénisse! which means God bless you!
It’s joy, joy, joy for Hilton this fall! Check out these other good things going on. Last Sun-
day we started up Middle School Youth Group, and this week, Family Night In (for par-
ents and their children) starts up again. See inside for more information on those! Wow,
so much to share…. The Great Chili Cook-off will be 6:00 pm, Sunday evening Novem-
ber 1. We’ve elder training with 9 churches this Saturday, the choir will be singing at
House of the Word, 1625 West. Pembroke Ave, in Hampton the afternoon of Nov. 15;
and just wait until you hear the Christmas Cantata they are preparing! It’s fabulous!
God bless you today and forevermore. You are the seed. Christ lives in you. Now let’s all
live for Christ!

We’re Hosting the Next
Blood Drive!
Tuesday, November 10 / 1:30 - 6:00 pm
Fellowship Hall
Our church has a history of giving and has been heroic in
the number of people who have donated blood.
Remember, one donation can save THREE lives!
Can’t donate blood? Well, don’t worry, you can “give,”
too! There are opportunities for several people to do
some easy, “just-show-up” kind of jobs to facilitate offer-
ing a comfortable, efficient use of a blood donor’s life-
saving job. The non-donating jobs involve:
Set up and/or take down tables and chairs for the
Red Cross team.
Greet and sign in the potential donors.
Set up and serve donors in the “canteen” area. This
can be a social as well as service providing job. We
offer light snacks, provided by the other Hilton Area
churches, to help the donors re-energize and keep
up their fluid intake before getting on with their eve-
nings.
Encourage others who have an interest to come out
and give the gift of life.
There will be a sign-up sheet in the Narthex for non-
blood-donor help. Thank you for your consideration
in this vital ministry!
Potential blood donors…the Red Cross is trying to make
the blood donation process more convenient and effi-
cient in a number of ways these days. Technology has
been helpful in that regard. Here are some aids for expe-
diting the process:
Make an appointment online at
www.redcrossblood.org (the Sponsor Code is Hil-
tonAC) or download the free Blood Donor App by texting
BLOOD.
A BRAND NEW TOOL is available. It’s called Rapid
Pass. The pre-reading and answering of pre-donation ques-
tions may be accomplished online at home or from your
workplace the day of donating to reduce the time spent at
the blood drive by as much as 15 minutes! To access this
process visit www.redcrossblood.ort/RapidPass and follow
the instructions given.
In summary, donate blood if you can, sign up to help facilitate the
blood drive, an/or tell your friends about this ministry and en-
courage them to consider being lifesavers!
Thank you,
Wanda Fletcher

What’s Your Hymn Personality?
A lot of people think musical taste runs along the line of “I like traditional
hymns” or “I like contemporary music,” but it is more about your hymn
personality. Some people like stately marching music like, “Guide Me O,
Thou Great Jehovah” “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” or “Siyahamba.” Notice
they like entirely different styles, but all lend themselves to a heavy march-
ing rhythm. Some people like dancing music like, “Come, Thou Long Ex-
pected Jesus,” “Hear the Good News of Salvation,” “Blessed Assurance,”
or “Lord, You Have Come to the Lakeshore.” Some people are medita-
tors. They like Taize music like, “O Lord Hear My Prayer,” “Wait for the
Lord,” the contemporary “As the Deer” or the traditional “Silent Night.”
Then there are the rhythmic folks, (that’s me!) who like those unpredicta-
ble rhythms “Praise, Praise, Praise the Lord,” “Everlasting God,”
“Hallelujah, We Sing Your Praises!” and a very early Presbyterian hymn,
“Comfort, Comfort, Now My People.”
I hope that you noticed that all of these types have been visited in our ser-
vices of worship. You probably won’t have all four in every service, but I
do try and see that we are all fed while lifting up the theme of the day. So
remember, as one of my favorite new hymns says, for everyone born a
place at the table. Every meal may not be your favorite, but you will find
food for the soul.
Save the Date – HPC Adult Choir will be singing on
Nov 15th at 5:00 pm at “House of the Word,” 1625 W.
Pembroke Ave, Hampton. We made a connection with
Pastor Mary Jones at the Day of Prayer events.

Dear HPC and Preschool,
I thank you all for sending me wonderful and
useful cards and gifts (on my dad’s passing). I am
still gravely sad, but I have been uplifted with
your thoughts and prayers. God has been with
me and I believe he has greatly appreciated your
sympathy, as I have. I wanted you to know I
wrote this because I have received your love
and thoughtfulness, even if you did not send
anything. In simple words, Thank You.
Romy (& Sarah) McGinnis
Dear friends,
I want to thank my Hilton family so much for all
of the calls, cards, food, and flowers! Every-
one's concern and support has meant so very
much to me, I can't begin to thank you all
enough! The love and kindness you all give so
readily is a true blessing in my life.

Photo Directory
Thanksgiving holiday
November 27 & 28
HPC is a congregation deeply rooted in our community. We propose to translate this mission statement beginning into visual images. It has been five years since our last pictorial directory. We have contracted with Life Touch, a company that com-bined with Olan Mills. They recommend the photo shoot on two days after Thanks-giving, Friday 2:00 to 9:00 and Saturday 10:00 to 5:00, 28-slots each day. There will probably a makeup day early the next week for those out of town Friday and Satur-day. Ideally college students will be home around Thanksgiving and school will be out providing time for a photo shoot. We are told that family pets are welcome in pictures if desired. The preschool and others from the community can come and get a free professional photo shoot and a free 8 x 10 picture (feel free to spread the word). They will not be in the directory, but for each non-church family that partici-pates, the church will receive an extra directory. We will need two volunteers to work on registration and flow during photo shoots. Sarah McGinnis and I serve as coordinators. Life Touch will provide two photographers, one to take pictures and one to display pictures taken electronically. There will be no salespeople and no pressure to purchase additional prints, although they make their money this way. Prices they say have not changed in 10 years. The final product will capture who we are as a congregation and a community of faith. My hope is that you will all join this process enthusiastically. There will be a page at the end for people who cannot make the photo-shoot (home-bound, military personnel and college/university students) to post electronic pictures. For an additional $10, these photos can be integrated into the body of the directory rather than being on the separate page at the end. We have four weeks to publicize the process. In the end I believe we will have a directory that is positive and uplifting. Scheduling information TBA...
Blessings, Chuck Webb
