This weekend’s Second Collection will be for World Mission Sunday for the Diocese of Eluru.

Thank you for your generosity.

Greetings, Jesus said “repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” This is the focus of this week’s Gospel reading from Matthew 22: 15-21. The question is, what belongs to God? My friends, our whole being belongs to God! Yes sir! Sometimes we like to categorize things and say, “well, 10% of my income and Sunday 10:30am – 11:30am belongs to God.” The truth of the matter is that all we are and all we have is His (it is a gift from Him), and that is a good thing! As we see in the second reading this Sunday, Paul tells the Thessalonians that they are loved by God and that they have been chosen by Him.

We too through our baptism have been chosen by God, and yes we know that we are loved by Him through His complete gift of Himself to us in His coming to live among us, dying on the cross for us, raising from the dead and giving us His Holy Spirit. He came for all of us, to bring us true freedom in Him. It is in giving of ourselves back to Him totally and completely that we encounter this freedom. This means having a relationship with God in which we invite him into every moment and aspect of our lives. Have a blessed week, and by the way please check out how you can help out our parish community with the Clay Shoot coming up in November, whether that be as a sponsor, a participant with a team, or as a helper. Please see the bulletin advertisement for details.

This Tuesday in RCIA we will learn about the Church As Community. We will study the origin of the Church, who started the Church, what exactly is the Church, the identity of the Church, the mission of the Church, the function of the Church, and our role in the Church. The Church is the beloved Bride of Christ and she has

always had four distinctive marks: (1) One; (2) Holy; (3) Catholic; and (4) Apostolic. We will learn where each of these distinctive marks comes from and what they mean. For our Saint of the Day we will study the Solemnity of All Saints.

"RCIA" stands for the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. It's the process by which adults come into full communion with the Catholic Church by receiving their Sacraments of Initiation. It's free, childcare is provided, we have a lot of fun and we always have something good to eat. Our meetings are on Tuesdays from 6:45 pm to 8:45 pm in the Church ballroom. If you have questions, feel free to email me at [email protected].

ALL SOULS REMEMRANCE November is when many make a special effort to remember their beloved dead. One way we can do this is to remember them at the Alter of God. The names you list on the ALL SOULS ENVELOPES will be placed on the walls of the church. During November, all Sunday Masses, as well as the daily Masses will be offered for ALL SOULS. There will be special envelopes in the card holders on the back of the pews in the church (for those who did not receive them in the mail). All monetary donations will be donated to charity.

Please bring your All Souls Envelopes to the church office or collection before October 22, 2017.

We will be having a Costume contest for the kids, the price wheel and cake walk (at a small fee) and lots of free fun activities, to include face painting and booths for the children to enjoy and DJ by Robert Dominguez for entertainment. There will be lots of goodies and one-of-a-kind items to buy from

our Bake store and our Silent Auction to bid on. Of course, there will be food and drinks sold by our Knights of Columbus, so come hungry.

Festivities will begin promptly at 6:00 pm and end at 9:00 pm. The silent auction will

continue until the following day at the Foyer and bidding ends at 6:15 pm, Sunday. Entry into this “Spooktacular” event is a simple bag of candy per family or household but you’re welcome to bring more!! This is the organization’s biggest fundraiser, so please join us for a wonderful time and provide a safe environment for your kids. Domingo 29º del Tiempo Ordinario - Ciclo “A” El evangelio de hoy cuenta de un grupo de hombres poniendo una trampa. A Jesús.

Kendra was diagnosed with breast cancer in January of 2016. She was able to work through her chemo and still care for her young son. Eventually it was determined that she would need a double mastectomy. After her surgeries and another series of chemo treatments she was declared free of cancer. She resumed her job and got her life back on track. But then came the headache in May of this year. It would not go away. She returned to her doctor and discovered that the cancer had spread to her brain. She is now unable to work and has enlisted the aid of a walker to help her get around. She is visibly weak. Kendra had applied for disability and was told her benefits would begin in November of 2018! We told her that was not acceptable – she needed the money NOW. We put her in touch with a disabiity lawyer that hopefully will get the matter expedited. We also offered to cover her mortgage for the next three months, which hopefully will give her enough time for her social security disabiity benefits to start. We will keep in contact with her to be sure she is covered. With all that she has going on medically she certainly does not need to worry about keeping a roof over the heads of she and her child. Please pray for her!

HOLIDAY FOOD In the past we have held food drives in November/December to provide food boxes for the families we sponsor for Christmas. This year we would like to try something different: instead of providing families with food boxes of food that we select, we would like instead to present them with a gift certificate to a grocery store where they can pick out the food that they would like. In the past we have worked with Super Mercado and they have given us gift certificates that can only be used for food (cigarettes and alcohol excluded). If you are interested in participating, please direct your check to Helping Hands and mark “Holiday Food” in the memo line. The parishioners of St. Stephen’s will get the opportunity to donate in a special collection that will be taken up in November. We are hoping to reach out to 200 families this year.
