Kevin Kenney Autumn has rolled in and treated us with a few summerlike days. The leaves on the trees are slowly changing as the wave of cool weather falls over our state. Autumn can be a renewing time as we look for our jackets or sweatshirts to enjoy a nice brisk walk in the evenings. I have always loved hearing the crunching of leaves under my feet as one walks in autumn and the smell of autumn is one that sparks many memories of time spent around firepits with friends, jumping into piles of leaves as a child, and searching out the best caramel apples around. We hear that “pumpkin” is back in many forms this time of year but for me, it is all about caramels and apples! I enjoyed my “First Kiss” a few weeks ago, no, not what you think, but the apple called “First Kiss.” It was the rage at the State Fair last year and is even better this year. I hope you are able to find one or two, they were worth waiting for! This weekend we hope to return to the distribution of the Body of Christ at the time of Mass that is most appropriate for the reception of the Body of Christ. I thank everyone who has been attending Mass in person for your diligence in following the regulations we have set forth and for wearing your masks. I appreciate from my heart your care for one another. Since we have done so well with receiving the Body of Christ at the end of Mass we are going to return to distributing the Body of Christ during the Communion Rite. The process will be the same, it will just be at a different time. We will mix up the order for which people are invited to come forward to alleviate the crossing of people in the aisles and making sure we keep our social distance. Our ushers will be instructed at our weekend Masses how to invite people forward so please follow their instructions. After the presider receives the Body and Blood of Jesus, he will proceed to his station and the Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister will receive from the presider at his station. After the reception of the Body of Christ, the Eucharistic Minister(s) will then receive a ciborium with the Body of Christ and proceed to their station(s). The stations will remain in their places as they are now. On the tabernacle side of the church, we will invite those sitting in the farthest pews, those on the western wall, to come forward and return to their pews by way of the far aisle. Then the people in the middle section will be invited to come forward and receive the Body of Christ and return to their pew by way of the middle aisle. On the pulpit side, (the eastern half of the Church) the usher will invite the people sitting in the middle section to proceed first to the communion station, allowing them to return by way of the middle aisle. Then the far section, (the section by the wall), will be invited to come forward to receive the Body of Christ returning by way of the far aisle. Please continue to wear your mask as you come forward to receive the Body of Christ, using the hand sanitizer if you wish and placing your hands as flat as possible under the communion station. We are still highly recommending that people receive the Body of Christ in the hand. Dismissal from Mass will start from the back of Church, allowing those in the back to leave first as the ushers will work their way up the aisles dismissing row by row. You may stay in the Church to pray for a few minutes but be aware of those in the pew with you may want to leave and that we need time to clean the Church before the next Mass starts. Please use the time after receiving the Body of Christ for your thanksgiving prayer. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will return on Fridays beginning October 2 at 11:00 am. We will begin with one hour on Fridays before the 12:00 Mass. October is a month dedicated to the Rosary, so please join the Catholic world in praying the rosary daily during the month of October for peace and healing in our world. 215 SOUTH 8TH ST, MINNEAPOLIS, MN 55402

RITE OF COMMUNIONRecently the Archdiocese has given parishes the go ahead to return the distribution of the Eucharist to the original place in our liturgies. We are moving the distribution of the Eucharist to its original place as before the pandemic. The change will require a change in the flow of Communion. On the pulpit/choir side, we will begin with the middle section first and have people return to their pews down the main aisle, then the side section will come forward and return to their pews along the wall. On the tabernacle side it will be the opposite, we will begin with the side section coming forward first and returning down the wall side to their pews and then the middle section will come forward and return to their pews down the main aisle. It will take a while to get used to the new format, so please be patient. The presiding priest will give instructions at the Mass.

WE HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE OF MINISTRY AND MUSIC IIIThe Virtual Viewing Event on Thursday, October 1st. We will update you on the results of donations to the Reserve Fund as soon as they are tabulated. The Saint Olaf Reserve Fund’s purpose is to assist our parish with funding for capital needs that go above and beyond our annual budget. We have used money from our Reserve Fund in 2019 to update the entire building’s Fire Suppression System. This year, we are in the process of refurbishing the Steinway B Piano, with generous donations made to Saint Olaf’s Reserve Fund. You can make donations to the Reserve Fund at any time of the year, through our online giving platform or by sending your gift to the parish with “Reserve Fund donation” noted.

Saint Olaf will begin the RCIA classes on Saturdays in September at 10:00 a.m. Classes will run through the Easter Season 2021. Anyone who is interested in becoming Catholic, either from another faith tradition or who has never been baptized, is welcome to attend. We ask that you contact Fr. Michael Krenik (612-767-6209 or [email protected]) to register and provide an initial intake form.

We at times need sponsors, parishioners willing to walk with the candidates, through the RCIA process. If you are interested in being a sponsor please let Fr. Krenik know.
