Newsletter Junior School Issue 2 October 2017 029 2077 8936 www.stjohnscollegecardiff.com @SJCCardiff Dear Parents I am not quite sure where the month has gone! The pupils have settled back into school with alacrity and I am so pleased to see so many happy learners as I visit classrooms each week. I must add that our next book club text for younger readers is going down a storm. I have had so many recommendations from pupils to read ‘Archie’s Unbelievably Freaky Week’, by Andrew Norris that it will be my half term reading treat. With best wishes Mrs R Thompson Staffing Mrs Taylor returns from maternity leave on Monday 23 rd October and she will resume the Form Tutor role for R11T and her Mathematics and Science teaching. I would like to thank Mrs Burleton for taking on the temporary mantle of R11T Form Tutor. With Mrs Taylor’s return, we must say goodbye and a big thank you to Miss Ling. We wish her every success in her future teaching career. Meet the Teacher: Thank you for attending our Meet the Teachers and I would encourage anyone who hasn’t made an appointment, to please do so. The relationship we have between pupil, teachers and parents is vital for your child’s well-being and hence their joy of learning. Please remember that Form Tutors are always your first point of contact for any query. They are happy to resolve any questions you may have about your child’s learning and well-being. Enterprise: Enterprise Day in September, gave all our R11 pupils the chance to think about creating their own business in readiness for Enterprise Week in November. The pupils spent the morning with spaghetti and sellotape, trying to make the tallest spaghetti tower, which would be strong enough to support a golf ball. This was obviously lots of fun but it also gave pupils the opportunity to experience the skills needed to work as a team. In the afternoon pupils began making business plans within their groups. Mrs Crowley-Davies talked to the children about advertising and the use of slogans and images to promote and identify businesses. She was very impressed with the pupils’ knowledge. Mr Gooding also talked to the children about running a business. Harriet W said, "It was an exciting and fun day and I am looking forward to Enterprise Week.”
