Public Hearings on San Ramon’s Draft Retail Strategy continued in October. Since the Crow Canyon Specific Plan is being updated, it is being proposed that

782 potential residential units could be shifted to Bishop Ranch 2600 so that certain areas can be opened up only for retail. The idea is to develop a citywide

retail strategy - identify the types of retail that can be attracted to San Ramon, and the ideal locations for such retail. The Planning Commission feels that by

strengthening the retail sector in San Ramon, expanding retail and restaurant offerings locally, and supporting specialty retail at City Center, the tax base

can be increased significantly. Also included in the second Planning Commission meeting, in October, was a presentation of San Ramon’s Code Enforcement

process regarding residential and commercial property enforcement. The presentation was made by Vance Phillips, Chief Building Official. To read more

about the meeting, click here. Additional meeting and workshop.

Planning Commission

Open Space Advisory Committee (OSAC)

OSAC supports the incorporation of the Cross Valley trail into the City’s trail system. The committee would, also, like to see the city examine possible trail

alignments to Rancho San Ramon Park from the existing ridge trail, and the possibility of forming a marketing sub-committee to work on public outreach to

promote open spaces and trails.

Housing Advisory Committee (HAC) Special Meeting

Senior Citizens Advisory Committee

The Senior Citizens Advisory Committee has been working on certain goals like having up-to-date information related to senior housing in San Ramon

through attendance at Planning Commission and Housing Advisory Committee meetings or other meetings where this topic is discussed, and hosting

monthly outreach meetings with new and current center users to foster relationship building and to share information about different cultures, travels,

etc. For more information about the meeting, click here.

Parks and Community Services Commission

Congratulations, Ross Butler, for being selected as City of San Ramon’s temporary employee of the month for September 2018. Ross has worked for the

City of San Ramon since July 2013 and currently serves as a pool manager for the Parks and Community Services Department aquatics division.

The meeting also included discussions about the renovation concepts for the Central Park Ring and Rock Fountains which were turned off in 2008 due to

mechanical equipment failures, and the Crow Canyon Gardens concept review which is centered on the renovation of the existing Mudd’s restaurant

structures. The city does not currently have funds allocated to further develop /renovate the Crow Canyon Park site. The park is being reviewed as a part

of the 10-year Park, Trail, Open Space and Recreation Master Plan. When completed, the plan will include cost estimates for the renovation and enhance-

ment of the park, and prioritization of future renovation based on feedback from the community. To read resident Franette Armstrong’s vision, and

other items on the agenda, click here.

The committee reviewed a list of potential artists for the Art and Wind Festival artwork commission to rank them in order of preference for the commission of

Artwork for the 2019 Art & Wind Festival. The selected artist will receive a $600 commission for the creation and purchase of the final artwork. They will also

be granted free exhibit space for the month of May in the Lindsay Dirkx Brown Gallery. All artwork sold during the Lindsay Dirkx Brown Gallery exhibit will be

subject to a 20% commission. To read more, click here.

Arts Advisory Committee

The committee’s discussions involved environmentally preferable purchases and practices policy, recommendations to modify the salary range for the Police

Chief and City Clerk classifications, and updating the police recruit classification specification and salary range. To read more on this, and the Quarterly

revenue and expenditure reports for the period ending September 30, 2018, click here.

Teen Council

In September, Nikita Redkar requested the Teen Council to be featured on the Wildcat Way podcast produced by Dougherty Valley High School Assistant

Principal Mr. Ball. This podcast encourages students and parents to learn more about their community.

The Teen Council accepted the Unity Day Proclamation at the City Council Meeting on October 23rd. Unity Day helps promote community awareness of the Teen

Council and its role and impact on the community. By participating and wearing orange, the statement becomes a conversation starter, sending the supportive,

universal message that bullying is never acceptable behavior. For more on the meeting, click here.
