This programme offers an NTC Bridging course and N1 – N3 qualifications inboilermaking. You will gain a theoretical understanding of techniques,

materials and equipment, mathematics, drawing, and science whenyou study a boilermaking programme.


MOTOR TRADEENGINEERING STUDIESThis programme offers an NTC Bridging course and N1 – N3

qualifications in motor trade theory. You will gain theoreticalunderstanding of motor mechanics, how to locate and assess

mechanical issues, and how to fix and maintain motor vehicles. You will also study mathematics, science and drawing.


WELDINGENGINEERING STUDIES

This programme offers an NTC Bridging course and N1 – N3 qualifications inwelding. You will gain a theoretical understanding of welding equipment,

techniques, steel and metal. You will also study mathematics, science,and drawing when you enrol for a welding course.


FITTER & TURNERENGINEERING STUDIESThis programme offers an NTC Bridging course and N1 – N3

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

The NTC Bridging course is aimed at students who do not meet the entry requirements for the National Technical Certificate (NTC) N1 course. This NTC Bridging course is designed to help strengthen and deepen the student’s skills and knowledge in two course components, namely Fundamental Numeracy (Mathematics) and Physical Science. This course focuses specifically on the Grade 9 Mathematics and Physical Science curriculums. The content covered in this course will help you meet the entrance requirements for any College SA Technical course (Motor Trade, Electrical, Boilermaking, Fitting and Turning, and Welding)

The Mathematics and Physical Science modules will give you the foundation you need in order to understand the material you will cover at the N1-level course of our engineering programmes. They focus on the fundamental concepts learnt in the senior phase of our current SA School curriculums, and the course aims to prepare students for the specific field of study into which they intend to enter. Please note that this course is intended to qualify you for the N1-level engineering courses offered at College SA only. You will not be able to use this course to apply for NTC courses at other learning institutions.

ASSESSMENT INFORMATIONFor Physical Science and Mathematics, you will have to complete:• Several Formative self-assessments (quizzes) with tutor support or discussion group interaction• Two (2) Formative Assessments for each subject• One (1) Final Integrated Summative Assessment for each subject

Mark breakdownFormative Assessment: Both formative assessments will count towards 30% of the final markFormative Self-Assessment: You will submit a simple “Logbook” of your academic progress that will count towards 10% of the final mark. The Logbook will serve as a summary of evidence of sessions with a tutor or discussion group.Final Integrated Summative Assessment: This will count towards 60% of the final mark.To complete the programme successfully: You must achieve at least 50% for each Formative Self-Assessment, and at least 60% in the Final Integrated Summative Assessment component, and an overall mark of 60% in order to achieve a pass in any individual course and programme in total.Exam weightingFinal Integrated Summative Assessment: 60%

WHAT ARE SUBJECTS?Subjects are the particular fields of study that are covered in a course. The subjects on the next page make up this course and will need to be completed in order for you to complete this course.

YOU CAN CHOOSE HOW MANY SUBJECTS YOU WANT TO STUDY

Most students do not have the finances or the time to study all the required subjects at once. College SA offers you the ability to choose how many subjects you can study comfortably at once. MATHEMATICS PHYSICAL SCIENCE

In this module, you will learn how to use number functions to manipulatenumeric data, and algebra to calculate and represent numbers and quantities in formulae and equations. You will also learn about geometry, data-handling (which involves the analysing of mathematical data), andtrigonometry, which deals with shapes and the relevant function of angles.

In this module, you will learn aboutmatter and materials, and energy andchange. Matter and material involveanything that has mass and occupies space. Energy and change involve chemical reactions. They are calculated by bond energies and shown by energy diagrams.
