Welcome to Ogden Presbyterian Church Sunday, May 12, 2019 — 4th Sunday of Easter; Mother’s Day

CAMBRIDGE CHIMES

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

GREETING EACH OTHER

PRELUDE “Toccata on ‘How Firm a Foundation’” ~Young Lighting of the Candles CALL TO WORSHIP

L: Sisters and Brothers, today is the first day of our week, a new start and a new hope.

P: Lord, help us to be ready to hear your words of life this morning and each day.

L: Body of Christ, open your hearts and receive God’s breath of new life. P: Risen Lord, help us to receive your peace and feel our joy for this week. L: Come everyone, let us worship the Lord with great joy and hope! P: Let us worship God!

*HYMN #111 “Good Christians All, Rejoice and Sing!”

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) God of hope and safety, like sheep who go astray, we have wandered from your Path of Life and Light. We have heard the Shepherd’s voice calling us by name, but we have turned instead to our own way, our own path. We have sinned against you and our neighbors. Show us your tender mercy; restore us in the security of your fold. Lead us back to the still waters. Fill us with your Spirit, that we might bear glad witness to your saving mercies, revealed to us in the Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ, our Lord.

(silence is observed for individual reflection and prayer)

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON L: Sisters and Brothers, Christ knows the sinfulness and brokenness of our lives. He

calls to us with forgiveness and mercy and healing. Accept that gift with grace and hope.

P: Christ forgives us and fills us with peace, so we may know him more fully and also so we may proclaim the good news of mercy and forgiveness for all. Thanks be to God, Amen.

CHOIR ANTHEM “The Gift of Love” ~Hopson

TIME WITH YOUNG CHRISTIANS

A CELEBRATION OF MOTHERS

L: This is the day the Lord has made! P: We will rejoice and be glad in it! L: To those who are pregnant with new life, P: we anticipate with you and pray that God will knit together the child in your

womb. L: To those who gave birth this year to their first child, P: we celebrate with you! L: To those who lost a child this year; to those who experienced loss this year, P: we mourn with you. L: To those who walk the hard path of infertility, fraught with pokes, prods, tears,

hopes that are dashed, and disappointment, P: we walk with you. Forgive us when we say foolish things. We don’t mean to

make this harder than it is. L: To those who are moms, foster moms, mentor moms, and spiritual moms, P: thank you! We need you! We appreciate you! L: To those who experienced abuse at the hands of your own mother, P: we acknowledge your experience. We are sad with you. We hope for your

healing. L: To those who are caring for their mothers in the midst of medical needs, P: may God sustain you. L: To those whose mother died this year or in years past, P: we grieve with you. Peace be with you. L: This Mother’s Day, we all walk together as the family of God. All are valued. All

make a difference. For the mothers present and represented among us, we give extra thanksgiving today.

P: For their love, encouragement, and strength, we thank the Lord. L: Drawn together by the Spirit, we join with others as one family in worship, in

prayer, in praise, in company. We come to worship God and to grow in faith together.

P: Let us love one another as God first loved us. (Litany by Amy Young and Bree Truax)
