Office 365 ProPlus is the most secure suite of Office cloud productivity apps, offering the broadest and deepest set of capabilities across all your devices, including rich, intelligent services that assist in content creation, analysis, scheduling, and communications, with immediate access to documents in the cloud.

This presentation is intended to provide an overview of the breadth of value that Office 365 ProPlus offers. The ‘Office 365 ProPlus Decision Makers’ presentation is our hero story for the Office apps and is to be delivered subsequent to the ‘Reinventing Productivity for the digital transformation’ discussion.

This presentation is replacing the previous ‘Office 365 ProPlus Overview for Decision Makers’ deck. This presentation focuses on product truths and customer-driven business scenarios more than the presentation it replaces, and includes supplemental material that highlights the growing innovation gap between Office 365 ProPlus and legacy clients and the interdependency of Office 365 ProPlus with other Office 365 services. There is more emphasis on the BDM while keeping the CIO and TDM as the primary targets.

We suggest using the deck either in its entirety as part of a 30-minute session, or customizing as part of a more specific presentation:

Technology is fast reshaping our world

[Discuss with the customer the version(s) of Office they currently have deployed in their organization. A sizeable portion of enterprise customers have not deployed the latest Office, which opens up this discussion as to why they should…]Staying up to date on the latest Office may not have been a priority in the past, but we’d invite you to reconsider. There’s a reason why Microsoft continues to invest in this area: technology is quickly reshaping our world, and our customers need the tools to effectively operate and compete in this new world. The digital transformation is here, it’s mainstream. Digital transformation represents tremendous opportunities to businesses - enabling them to engage customers in new ways, transform products, optimize operations and empower their employees. For today, we want to focus on how companies can empower their employees. Consider the following and think about your organization:• Today’s workforce is increasingly composed of Millennials,

who work and interact differently than prior generations. More mobile. More collaborative.

• With new ways to work, employees now work on nearly twice the number of teams than they did five years ago, which may be a challenge unless they have the right tools at hand to enable such collaboration.

• Information overload is also a known challenge - “Information overload wastes 25% of workers’ time costing the U.S. economy alone $997 billion each year (as of 2010)”

• And last, but not least – 80% of employees admit to using non-approved SaaS apps in order to simply get their jobs done, potentially creating security or liability concerns.

So how are we, at Microsoft, thinking about empowering employees? CITATIONS:41% employees say mobile business apps are already changing the way they work - CCS Insight's Employee Mobile Technology Survey, February 2015 (surveyed 1,200 employees in the US and five countries in Western Europe)Employees work on an average of 3 project teams in 2014, up 76% from 2009 (1.7 teams) - Microsoft: US Information Worker Survey, 2009 & 2014Information overload wastes 25% of workers’ time. Cost U.S. businesses $997B/year- published research by Basex, a member of The Information Overload Research Group; The Information Overload Research Group’s Media Release Feb 3,

2011;  Harvard Business Review ‘Conquering Digital Distraction’ June 2015>80% non-approved SaaS - “The Hidden Truth Behind Shadow IT” (http://www.mcafee.com/us/resources/reports/rp-six-trends-security.pdf) McAfee-sponsored brief by Stratecast/Frost & Sullivan, 2013.

The empowering workplace uses an integrated solution

All teams in all companies do these same core behaviors – they want to create, team, communicate, engage and make better decisions. Many companies believe they just need to bring into the business the latest new point app solution – and all problems will be solved. These solutions are often Band-aids, not systemic enough to drive real change in a company, and indeed may fade over time from lack of usage or belief. They are also often purchased without IT oversight* – creating a patchwork of non-sanctioned SaaS solutions with varying levels of security and integration and little visibility by IT.We love point apps! – we’ve made some of the world’s most trusted and relied upon everyday. But that’s why we’re qualified to say that to truly transform your workplace, to better empower your employees, point apps are not enough. Rather than a patchwork of solutions, the empowering workplace uses an integrated solution.A solution built upon four key technology investment areas:•Collaboration: Create a productive workplace that embraces diverse workstyles•Mobility: Enable your people to get things done anywhere•Intelligence: Provide insights to drive faster, better business •Trust: Protect your organization, data and people

Let’s look at how our investments have paid off in new experiences that empower your employees to do their best work anytime and anywhere.CITATIONS:* “The Hidden Truth Behind Shadow IT” (http://www.mcafee.com/us/resources/reports/rp-six-trends-security.pdf) McAfee-sponsored brief by Stratecast/Frost & Sullivan, 2013.

Collaboration We work and live in a world where collaboration can’t always happen in person and sharing ideas and information can’t always wait. In order to accommodate the various workstyles of today’s digital workplace, flexibility is key. The latest collaboration features provide the ability to confidently collaborate at the same time – or anytime – and stay connected on the go. Office 365 ProPlus provides a comprehensive set of technologies to enable collaboration. We have different tools for different needs – one size does not fit all.

Co-authoring offers real-time collaboration* within Office 2016 and Office Online, delivering a ton of flexibility. In the client, users don’t need to go back and forth between experiences, collaborating outside of the client and then integrating those changes and conversations back to finalize their documents—allowing them to take advantage of the full feature set Office has to offer while they collaborate. Real-time co-authoring delivers instant engagement within the application, making it more like an in-person work session. Collaborators can align and finalize details of a document more efficiently and quickly in Office 2016 or Office Online.

Version history automatically saves versions of your OneDrive for Business files while you’re working on them. These versions allow you to look back and understand how your files evolved over time and allow you to restore older versions in case you have made a mistake. The integrated activity feed shows who accessed the file and when.

Over the last several years, social networks have changed the way we communicate. In our personal lives, we “@Mention” others in a Twitter post to call attention to it. In our workplace, the same social concept became popular through enterprise social tools such as Yammer. We have introduced @Mentions to workplace email in Outlook on the web. The focus of @Mentions is on specific individuals. When collaborating on email, it is common to call out a specific person for an action or request. Another scenario is adding a person to an existing thread for their attention—perhaps you are on a thread and know that the person who can answer a question was not initially included. Using the @Mentions feature ensures that the person is not only aware of the request but is also included in the thread.

Get all your communication and collaboration in one place. A single client for IM, voice, video, presence, content sharing, searchable contacts, contacts info, Office integration, and Skype connectivity. Skype for Business is available on PCs, Macs, Windows and Android tablets, iPads®, conference room systems, and leading mobile platforms.** No need for multiple

apps and solutions — one client, one set of sign-‐in credentials. Conversations live across all of your devices and stay synchronized with Exchange. People can more easily communicate and work with the clients and customers they’ve added to their extended contacts lists. Skype for Business gives you the freedom to work with anyone, in any location, at any time — virtually eliminating the need for travel. Audio, HD video and web conferencing is integrated into the Office apps, simplified, and widely available on mobile devices. Spontaneous conversations, working sessions, and meetings can happen at any time. People in different locations meet and make decisions in an instant. Online meetings are easy to host, join, and manage with Skype for Business.

Search email up to 66% faster in Outlook.*** Outlook 2016 search yields results in less than a second for typical queries, up to 66% faster than in previous versions of Outlook.

Mobility Productivity on the go just got easier. Now you can view and edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents with an intuitive touch experience designed for your mobile devices. Your Office documents are stored in the cloud, which gives you access to them from anywhere. Move easily between devices. Pick up where you left off on whatever device you were working on last. You can even work with others in the same document at the same time. Do great work anywhere, anytime.

The Office Mobile apps*—Word, Excel, PowerPoint—are built from the ground up for touch, offer the familiar experience that Office customers expect, and deliver the capabilities people need for on-the-go productivity on compatible mobile phones and tablets.** Across each of the apps, you will appreciate full fidelity viewing of your Office documents, knowing edits and changes made on any device will render perfectly across all your devices.  Your docs are now automatically saved for you, ensuring you won’t lose a change and that others can see your edits as you work together.  Each of the Office Mobile apps is uniquely designed to help you

be productive on the go. Word Mobile has the features you’d expect for touch-

first productivity.  Mobile View delivers an optimized experience for reading, editing, and adding comments to documents on a small screen.

The familiar Excel spreadsheet you know is now made easy for mobile. Reordering columns, adding formulas, changing chart types, and filtering data are effortless and natural. If you prefer to use the onscreen keyboard, you’ll find the familiar controls tuned for touch, so you can work comfortably on a tablet.

You will appreciate the richness of PowerPoint Mobile’s presentation capabilities coupled with a touch-first design. You can easily make gorgeous slides with new touch gestures for inserting and editing pictures, tables, shapes and SmartArt. All the transition and animation effects are built right in. And when you’re ready to present, cut the cables and engage with the audience more personally by presenting wirelessly. The Presenter View gives you full control over what your audience sees on the big screen and shows you (and only you!) your speaker notes on your tablet.

Tightly integrated with OneDrive for Business and other cloud service providers, the Office Mobile apps are fully cloud connected, making it easy to access your documents from anywhere, pick up where you last left off, and co-author with others on documents and projects.

Outlook for iOS and Android lets you manage Outlook.com and other email accounts, calendars, contacts, and files without switching between different apps. Get the same consistent and familiar experience on Outlook mobile when you access and manage your calendar; or view and attach files from your device, OneDrive, or other storage account to email messages and calendar events and share them with others.

The Cloud Storage Partner Program (CSPP) enables 3rd party cloud storage providers to connect their services to Office Online and Office for iOS. We’re making Office easier for customers to use with cloud storage providers with: real-time co-authoring with Office Online for documents stored in partner cloud services; offering Office for iOS integration to all partners in the CSPP, and enabling integration between Outlook.com and cloud storage providers Dropbox and Box. This integration lets users designate these partner cloud services as “places” in Office, just as they can with Microsoft OneDrive. Users can now browse for Work, Excel and PowerPoint files on their favorite cloud service right from within an Office app.

DISCLAIMERS:* Publisher and Access: PC only; cannot be used across devices.** Visit www.office.com/information for information on compatible tablets and smartphones.

Intelligence Move from tools that wait for us to act to intelligent tools that streamline our work, make us more productive and get us to results faster. Microsoft uses intelligent systems to empower organizations to help people understand more about the way they work, and with intelligent tools that help everyone get more out of Office.

PowerPoint Designer allows anyone to create high quality professional slides within seconds. Just drop one or more images into your presentation or provide some basic text and Designer provides you with several design ideas. Select your favorite and you’re done! This allows you to spend less time figuring out how to produce high quality designs and more time preparing for that key moment—your presentation.

This all works thanks to a powerful combination of automated design and smart image analysis. PowerPoint Designer was built in collaboration with professional graphic designers, who helped develop over 12,000 creative blueprints. Designer applies cloud intelligence to analyze and identify the most compelling portion of your images to determine which blueprints work best with your content. For example, if the visual contains a natural scene, Designer can zoom, crop and frame it. But if the image contains a chart, it focuses in on the relevant region to ensure the important data is highlighted. Designer then selects from the 12,000+ blueprints to provide multiple layout options to help you make the most of your image. The end result is a high quality and customized presentation—in seconds.

Tap for Word allows you to leverage and repurpose existing content quickly, in just a few clicks without leaving Word, leaving you focused on the task at hand. Tap surfaces relevant files/documents, most frequently used by you and your co-workers. Once files are surfaced, you can pull content from those files right into your Word doc to start building out their content. Tap is also available for Outlook and expands the functionality beyond easier content gathering and document creation, to enabling more efficient email communication. Tap for Outlook gives you the ability to access relevant documents right within the email workflow and pull in the relevant pieces of that document into the communication itself for easy sharing, without having to attach the entire file.

New charts and maps in Excel help you convey complex concepts in visually compelling ways. Funnel charts can be used to help you display values as progressively decreasing proportions. Visualize financial or hierarchical data, and highlight statistical properties of your data with new chart types such as treemap, waterfall, pareto, histogram, box

and whisker and sunburst.

Excel Maps* enables you to transform geographic data into high-fidelity visualizations within a few steps, uncovering new insights, trends and opportunities within your data. Powered by Bing Maps, Excel Maps enables anyone to create data visualizations through maps that were often only possible before with the help of technical experts or licensing agreements.

In Excel you can connect to and combine a variety of data sources and create high performance data models containing millions of rows using Power Pivot. In Excel you can use PivotTables and other analytics tools to identify insights.

Sketch, take notes and annotate documents with digital ink that transforms handwriting into text and shapes. Replay your handwriting forward and backward to hide and reveal content, provide step-by-step instructions, or better understand the flow of others' thoughts with Ink Replay.**

Type your question in the Tell Me box and find your answers right there in the app, with improved search, content, and recommendations.

DISCLAIMERS:* Available for PC, Android and Windows Mobile only.** Touch capable tablet or PC required. Pen accessory may be sold separately.

Trust We make security and privacy a natural part of the tools that people use and are comfortable with every single day.

Increased security thru new authentication schemes (Multifactor Authentication in Outlook): Many companies, such as financial and military institutions, have a higher bar for data protection and are early adopters of new authentication schemes such as multi-factor authentication. • Align Outlook’s authentication stack with MSO shared library• Support multifactor authentication through integration of

ADAL (Active Directory Authentication Library)

Enhanced compliance with expanded Data Loss Prevention (DLP) tools: Introduction of DLP experiences in the form of Policy Tips within Word, Excel and PowerPoint that help prevent unintentional disclosure of business sensitive data without restricting worker productivity. Based on the content type and target of distribution, an administrator will be able to progressively restrict the experience beginning with “Notification” of a violation, to allowing users to “Override” with a justification, to finally “Block” dissemination of the content.• Synchronization of classification and policy definitions

between Word, Excel, PowerPoint clients and the Information Protection service end point.

Office 365 ProPlus vs Office Professional Plus

As previously mentioned, we’ve invested heavily in bringing the best of Office to Office 365.

‒ Being a cloud-delivered service enables us to deliver more value, more frequently compared to periodic on-premises releases. Updates to Office 365 ProPlus are delivered in smaller, regular updates, ensuring your users always have the latest productivity and communication tools.

Over 120 new features since Office 2016

This ongoing innovation cycle has made Office 365 ProPlus virtually a brand-new suite of the apps you rely upon to drive your business, while retaining the familiar look and feel your users love. It has over 3x the new features and functionality found in the older Office 2010 perpetual version, with key features to enable mobile productivity as well as increased investment in cloud-powered intelligent features.

In fact, since our most recent perpetual release of Office 2016 in September 2015, we’ve released over 120 new features to Office 365 ProPlus.

Office 365 ProPlus delivers value beyond Office 2016

‒ [NOTE TO SPEAKER: Goal isn’t to read each feature, but to highlight the fact that while Office 2016 was a snapshot in time, new innovations continue to regularly roll out through Office 365. This is not an exhaustive list of released features – but a sampling of key features.]

[click] The Office 2016 launch in late 2015 marked a milestone in delivering new value for both Office 365 subscribers and Office perpetual customers alike, with notable collaboration, integration and analysis features. For Office 365, however, it didn’t stop there.

[click through each release block]We’ve continued to innovate in Office 365 with regular releases across our update channels – many of the features you’ve seen today.

Committed to ongoing value in Office 365 ProPlus

…and we’ll continue to deliver value moving forward.

Office 365 ProPlus vs Office Professional Plus

You’ve just seen our commitment to ongoing investment and value in Office 365. Let’s look at how Office 365 ProPlus compares overall to Office Professional Plus.

Both have the full set of application experiences you are used to, available online and offline.

Office Professional Plus is licensed by device, meaning that if you have multiple devices, you need multiple licenses. Office 365 ProPlus is licensed per user.

Office 365 ProPlus is licensed as a subscription, rather than as a perpetual license.

Traditional, on-premises versions of Office are modernized through version upgrades about every three years. These can be large, fairly disruptive changes, and of course you had to wait 3 years for new value. Office 365 ProPlus provides smaller updates, not upgrades, on a regular basis so that business and IT value can be delivered faster and in more manageable chunks.

On-premises versions of Office need to be fully installed before using, which means all base files and patches must first be properly sequenced. This can result in significant downtime for the user. Office 365 ProPlus can be used while update packages are installed in the background, minimizing

downtime and promoting productivity for your users. Intelligent cloud technologies like machine learning and

natural language processing make it possible to tap into the vast amount of data, knowledge and information that resides in Office 365 - enabling companies and their employees to achieve the most out of every experience. Examples of these intelligent services are PowerPoint Designer, Tap and Editor, which are reliant on cloud technology and cloud data.

Office 365 can be streamed from the cloud to your deployment infrastructure or direct to the user’s PC

Office 365 ProPlus comes with OneDrive for Business- electronic file sync and share with 1 TB storage.

Do more across all your devices with Office 365 ProPlus

Your mobile workforce needs collaboration tools they can use on the go.  Office 365 ProPlus gives you a consistent experience across devices for storing, sharing, and updating Office documents, while keeping your content and formatting intact.

The Office Mobile apps—Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive for Business —are built from the ground up for touch, offer the familiar experience that Office customers expect, and deliver the capabilities people need for on-the-go productivity on mobile phones and tablets. Across each of the apps, customers will appreciate full fidelity viewing of their Office documents, knowing edits and changes made on any device will render perfectly across all their devices.

Tightly integrated with OneDrive and other cloud service providers, the Office Mobile apps are fully cloud connected, making it easy to access your documents from anywhere, pick up where you last left off, and co-author with others on documents and projects. Your docs are now automatically saved for you, ensuring you won’t lose a change and that others can see your edits as you work together.

Each of the Office Mobile apps is uniquely designed to help you be productive on the go. Word Mobile has the features you’d expect for touch-first productivity.

All

the transition and animation effects are built right in. And when you’re ready to present, cut the cables and engage with the audience more personally by presenting wirelessly. The Presenter View gives you full control over what your audience sees on the big screen and shows you (and only you!) your speaker notes on your tablet.

Mobile device management (MDM) features, powered by Microsoft Intune, are built into Office 365 to ensure you have the most advanced security and compliance capabilities.  Organizations that need protection beyond what’s included in Office 365 can subscribe to Intune and get additional device and app management capabilities, including:

• Mobile application management that enables your workforce to securely access corporate data using Office mobile apps by restricting actions such as copy/cut/paste/save in your managed app ecosystem

• Manage devices from the cloud, or integrate with existing System Center Configuration Manager on-premises

• Comprehensive mobile device management enables users to access corporate resources with the appropriate security configurations

Office 365 Services and Legacy Clients

‒ [NOTE TO SPEAKER: This section of the presentation targets customers who opt to upgrade to Office 365 services (ie Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, etc), but continue to use older perpetual clients. The overall message is Office 365 services and Office 365 ProPlus are better together.]

As Office 365 has grown and evolved over the last few years, the rate of change occurring in the subscription client is outpacing that of the on-premises client. Most orgs are relatively comfortable with the frequent updates to their mobile client and updates to the web client (Office Online) are instantaneous. However, while many organizations successfully deploy Office 365 ProPlus and stay up to date with the latest apps, there can be a “long tail” of legacy client apps that remain in use. Those older versions of the Office apps can create some new challenges when attempting to use them alongside other Office 365 services.

Legacy software’s modern challenges with Office 365

END USER EXPERIENCEThe perpetual Office clients (e.g. Office 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016) are on a very different lifecycle than the Office 365 commercial subscription client (Office 365 ProPlus). This difference in lifecycle and access to updates makes the customer experience quickly divergent when using Office 365 services – so much so that many experiences available to Office 365 ProPlus are simply not available to perpetual Office clients yet. In addition, several upcoming Office capabilities require

Office 365 integration to function (e.g. cloud-powered intelligent services that assist in content creation, analysis, scheduling, and communications). Recent examples of this are Tap for Word, Researcher for Word and PowerPoint Designer.

Similarly, end users in these environments may have different experiences as they access client apps online or via mobile versus what is installed on their desktops.

Further, documentation is generally written to cover the latest client connecting to the latest service and may not cover older legacy scenarios such as the Office 2010 client connecting to Office 365.

SECURITY & RELIABILITYNewer clients are much faster to respond to threats, due in part to additional telemetry provided back to the cloud servers but also security features are now built-in. The apps are more cloud aware and functionally serve as service end points.

‒ Protocols used by the older clients use more network bandwidth than they should and surfacing more ports than they should, impacting overall security performance. The modern client makes a concerted effort to limit the number of protocols, ports and connections used to provide the service. Apps like OneDrive for Business, Skype for Business and Outlook use updated protocols optimized for cloud service environments.

Office and Office 365 Services are better together

‒ [NOTE: This slide demonstrates the interdependency of key Office 365 features and cloud-based services. When the new apps are in place alongside the service, new scenarios in productivity and collaboration light up for the end user. Also, this can be used to overcome customer delayers/blockers associated with prioritizing the service first and considering the older client “good enough.”]

Enabling our vision for ongoing innovation in Office 365 ProPlus increasingly requires tighter integration to Office 365 Services to deliver the rich, dynamic experiences you expect from a cloud productivity suite. Many organizations may prioritize email over other productivity investments and invest in Exchange Online while remaining on legacy, on-premises Office clients – not fully realizing the additional scenarios that are enabled by pairing Office 365 Services with the latest Office client. Similarly, for organizations that have invested in Exchange Online and the latest client, even more collaborative experiences can be unlocked with SharePoint Online.

Here is one scenario that illustrates this:WORK TOGETHER ON DOCUMENTS WITH COLLEAGUES When working on a document, you can edit together with

your colleagues with co-authoring in Office apps, saving the document to OneDrive or SharePoint Online first, so others can work in it with you in real-time.

While you're editing in the same Office document (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote), you can discuss thoughts and feedback with your team from within the Office app with Skype for Business. Click the Chat button to open the chat pane, and type in the box at the bottom of the pane to kick off the conversation. Everyone on your team who in working in the document will see your message and be able to respond.

When you've finished the draft and are ready to seek final approval, you can post it to a shared SharePoint Online library where executives can easily access it. Once the draft is saved to the central location, your executives can open it up for review, from any web browser, and from anywhere.

Once you've received approval on the document, you can ready it for circulation with your broader team. You can send the final document to its intended audience using Outlook Modern Attachments. When you send an attachment that's saved to the cloud, you ensure everyone is viewing the same copy of the document. Recipients can access the attachment from virtually any device.

enterprise solution collaboration and provides access to the most relevant content and information. The goal isn’t just more productive employees, it’s also agility across the business ecosystem.Similar to how Office is a suite of productivity applications - such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentations, etc. - Office 365 is a suite of cloud-based services, including: Email and calendaring (Exchange Online) Collaboration, web, workflows, and electronic file sync and

share (SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business) Voice, IM and Presence (Skype for Business) Enterprise social collaboration (Yammer Enterprise) Content and people discovery (Delve)It also includes Office 365 ProPlus – the rich subscription client, with the added benefit of being a service – as the front-end to connect to many of these services.

Seamlessly transition to Office 365 ProPlus

Innovation and change characterize technology – today, perhaps more than ever. Organizations need to respond with agility and speed to deliver and manage the technology users demand, on the devices they chose, wherever they need to work. Software Assurance (SA) supports your ongoing success by helping you take full advantage of your investments in IT. It is a comprehensive Volume Licensing program that includes a unique set of technologies, services and rights to help you deploy, manage and use your Microsoft products more efficiently. Software Assurance helps keep you up to date and ready to respond quickly to challenges and opportunities. Your available benefits are determined by your Volume Licensing agreement, the types of products and the quantity you purchase.

The core benefits available to Office are the following:• New version rights• Planning services• Technical training• E-learning for end users• 24x7 problem resolution support• Extended Hotfix support• Office multi-language pack*• Office roaming-use rights• Spread payments• Step-up licensing availability

Software Assurance is a benefit of your Enterprise Agreement (EA)**. Renewing the Enterprise Agreement is important for a seamless transition to Office 365 ProPlus. Some customers can see short-term savings from dropping Office from the EA. But there are many reasons to keep Office on the EA:Bad – Drop Office from the EA

• Loss of discounts and increased cost to buy back in• Loss of SA benefits, like roaming use rights, O365

ProPlus Transition rights and new version rights

• Freezing your ecosystem on old technology • Reduced Microsoft relationship• Possibility for short-term savings. But that’s often over

estimated Good – Renew EA and stay on Office on-prem

• Maintain discounts and SA benefits• Keep option value of O365 ProPlus Transition rights • Maintain Microsoft relationship

Best – renew EA and transition to O365 ProPlus

• Faster value realization from user-based licensing, Click-to-Run deployment savings, BYOD enablement and Office Mobile.

• Maintain discounting & get co-investment under EA.• Keep many EA & Software Assurance benefits such as

roaming use rights and multi-language pack.• Microsoft is interested in customers moving and

investing in the relationship and deployment of customers.

DISCLAIMERS:* For Office 2016, the Office multi-language pack is now included as part of the product. Customers with prior versions covered with Software Assurance will continue to receive this benefit as part of their Software Assurance coverage.** 500 minimum user/device requirement is for commercial customers effective July 1, 2016. Does not apply to Server and Cloud Enrollment (SCE). The minimum requirement for public sector customers is 250 users/devices.

IT Deployment and Management Our engineers aren’t just responsible for shipping a CD, giving it to customers, and then their involvement is over.  They're now running a service, and that has changed how they build the software and our release cycle.

Office client release cadence Traditionally in the on-premises world, we had a three-year cycle and in the interim, there would be service packs. The on-premises world is not going away. However, with the shift to a mobile-first, cloud-first world, Office 365 is now what our engineers are focused on and are rapidly updating in a way that we could not do on-premises.

Office 365 allows us to be more agile in our development and increases the speed with which we can bring innovation to market. We continue to be committed to bringing much of this innovation to our on-premises customers, and the current cadence of on-premises releases remains unchanged. Historically we have delivered major releases every 2-3 years, with service packs in the interim. Where possible, we will bring innovations from the service to our on-premises server products. There will be some scenarios that will remain in the cloud, due to technical or infrastructure requirements, such as Yammer and the Office Graph.

The apps included with Office 365 are now being released regularly with updates that provide new features and functionality along with security and other updates. New capabilities make it easier than ever to deploy Office 365 and manage ongoing updates. The Office 365 Roadmap on FastTrack lists updates that are currently planned for applicable subscribers. Updates are at various stages from being in development to rolling-out to customers to being generally available for applicable customers world-wide. With the increased pace of change, it’s important to stay up to date. We operate a complete, detailed and transparent public roadmap http://fasttrack.microsoft.com/roadmap, in addition to a robust communications program to Administrators along with the ability to get access to features for a subset of users early to help them plan and prepare.

Office 365 ProPlus servicing overview

In a services world, we are constantly providing small, incremental enhancements to the security and value of our Office 365 services, including Office 365 ProPlus. With Office 365 ProPlus, we make smaller changes - ripples - rather than big, disruptive waves. This new servicing approach grants more flexibility and control over how, when, and where updates are accessed.

Monthly updatesEvery second Tuesday of each month, we release a new build of Office365 ProPlus, which contains security and non-security changes. This means no more patches, hot fixes, service packs, or major upgrades. Going forward, everything in Office 365 ProPlus will be introduced as a monthly build. Each build will be cumulative from the previous build. This means customers get smaller, easily managed updates instead of large, complex upgrades.

Office 365 ProPlus Overview for Decision Makers Speaker Notes

Background updatingThe update model is now a poll model, where the client itself facilitates the updates. Windows Update and WSUS are no longer relevant—Office 365 ProPlus updates are basically moved in product, so you can set the process to be self-updating or manually controlled. Deltas are calculated and downloaded in the background, and even though these are full builds, customers only download deltas (the difference between what they have and what’s new in the update). In addition, because deltas are calculated at the time of update, clients are always only one update away from being current. Managing updates is also easier because administrators can now use Group Policy to control the update schedule. In short, these changes and the move to background updating deliver value faster with less impact on users. The updates happen in the background, so users don’t have a lot of down time. The upside is that users get faster value delivery with less impact.

Take control of changeNumerous controls inherent in Office 365 ProPlus allow customers to control how, where, and when they get their updates. In the default model, the client checks on updates, builds, and sources and then downloads the deltas. However, if you’re an IT pro, you can not only change where you’re getting updates from (for example, an internal source), but also control when updates happen. You can build your own schedule and manage it using Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager or other tools. Everything happens through a command-line tool, so you can automate all tasks. This means you can plan change management as a process and wrap automation around it. In short, you can manage change in your environment through ripples, rather than large waves. Office 365 ProPlus will be the last office client you ever deploy because every change going forward is in this monthly build model—and you pull from it what your organization needs.

When managed properly, the new update model actually reduces your risk and can significantly reduce your testing efforts. - you’re going to perform the same testing regardless of what’s inside the update, security or non-security. This provides IT groups the ability to leverage a single process to manage change in their environment. Office 365 ProPlus offers simplified deployment and the ability to use existing tools and processes.

Work confidently IT staff can work confidently with new tools and telemetry to deploy and manage Office 365 ProPlus into their environment.

Flexible update management. Before, customers received monthly updates which included security patches, bug fixes and features enhancements. We’ve created a way for admins to manage the pace at which they receive feature updates and bug fixes while continuing to receive regular security updates- they can receive feature enhancements 3 times per year.

Strong commitment to application compatibility: We have a very strong commitment to application compatibility for Office and Office 365 ProPlus. We’re not making any changes to Macros or Add-ins in this release. It’s rare that “no changes” is a something we’d want to highlight, but we think it’s worth celebrating the consistency in the programming model across releases.

Simplified activation management. We’ve added a feature in the Office 365 Admin Portal to allow admins to manage desktop activations across users. Admins can see devices (device name is masked) and can help to deactivate desktop devices, if necessary.

Click-to-Run deployment: For customers on our Office 365 subscription service, the 2016 release includes new deployment features that IT pros have been asking for:

Enhanced distribution management. We’re improving our integration with System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) to allow IT admins to efficiently download and distribute monthly Office updates using the native SCCM features.

NEW Office Deployment Tool (ODT) to easily make customizations and create the application in Configuration Manager.  Your customized Office 365 ProPlus is now ready for deployment from within Configuration Manager.

SUPPORT FOR SCCM CONTENT DISTRIBUTION with SCCM for installs and updates.  You can use your existing SCCM distributions infrastructure to deploy and update Office.

New Group Policy features give the ability to dynamically manage update configuration and telemetry. This range of settings can be managed at the time of install, but Group Policy allows you to update that as needed. New features include: Enabling automatic updates and managing those updates. Updating path. Managing target version. Updating deadline. Hiding update notifications and options to enable or disable

updates.Product Detail ‒ [NOTE: The product details slides #35-37 provide
