May 13-14, Fifth Sunday of EasterThis Sunday we hear of the first deacons who were tasked with a min-istry of service. Today with the restoration of the permanent diaconate, we have examples of men in our midst who connect the ministry of Word and sacrament to the ministry of service. Deacons are in our midst to call all the baptized to our common vocation to ensure that the common good is recognized and accepted.
Mayo 13-14, Quinto Domingo de PascuaEste domingo escuchamos sobre los primeros diáconos que fueron encomendados con un ministerio de servicio. Hoy con la restauración del diaconado permanente tenemos ejemplos de hombres en nuestra vida diaria que conectan el ministerio de la Palabra y el sacramento al ministerio de servicio. Los diáconos están en medio de nuestra vida diaria para llamar a todos los bautizados a nuestra vocación común de asegurarnos de que el bien común sea reconocido y aceptado.
LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR/CARTA DE NUESTRO PARROCO
Dear parishioners,
The month of May is especially dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Additionally, the centenary of the apparition of Our Lady of Fatima is celebrated this year. For this reason, our parish statue is placed in the Altar area for the month of May. The statue was recently painted to accurately copy the original statue in Fatima. A halo with blue stones was added.
As we look upon the statue of Our Lady of Fatima during Mass, we can reflect upon one of the highlights of the apparition, which was the visitation by an Angel who said, “Do not be afraid. I am the angel of peace. Pray with me.” Then, the Angel gave them a prayer, “My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love you. I ask pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love you.”
The statue is immediately recognized by the white mantel and robe of the Blessed Virgin Mary. During the Easter season, we have a wonderful opportunity to renew the graces of our Baptism in which we received a white garment. During the sacrament, the gar-ment was blessed with these words:
“You have become a new creation, and have clothed yourself in Christ. See in this white garment the outward sign of your Christian dignity. With your family and friends to help you by word and exam-ple, bring that dignity unstained into the everlasting life of heaven.”
When we follow the pattern of holiness laid out for us by the Blessed Virgin Mary, then we recognize the dignity to which we are called … to be a true disciple of Christ!

El mes de mayo es dedicado especialmente a la Santísima Virgen María. Adicionalmente, este año se celebra el centenario de la aparición de nuestra Señora de Fátima. Por esta razón, la estatua de nuestra parroquia está situada en el área del Altar durante el mes de mayo. Recientemente la estatua fue retocada para duplicar exacta-mente la estatua original de Fátima. Se agregó un halo con piedras azules.
Al ver la estatua de nuestra Señora de Fátima durante la Misa, podemos reflexionar sobre uno de los aspectos más destacados de la aparición, que fue la visitación de un Ángel que dijo: “No tengan miedo. Yo soy el ángel de la paz. Oren conmigo.” Luego, el Ángel les dio una oración, “Dios mío, yo creo, yo te adoro, tengo esperanza y te amo. Te pido perdón por aquellos sin esperanza, que no creen, no adoran, ni te aman”.
La estatua de la Santísima Virgen María es reconocida inmediata-mente por lo blanco de su túnica y manto. Durante la temporada de Pascua, tenemos una maravillosa oportunidad para renovar la gracia de nuestro Bautismo, fue cuando recibimos una prenda blanca. Du-rante el Sacramento, la prenda fue bendecida con estas palabras:
“Te has convertido en una nueva creación y te has revestido en Cristo. Ver en este vestido blanco el signo visible de tu dignidad cris-tiana. Con tu familia y amistades ayudando con palabras y ejemplos, llevando esa dignidad sin mancha a la vida eterna del cielo.”
Cuando seguimos el modelo de la santidad presentado por la Santísima Virgen María, es cuando reconocemos la dignidad a la que se nos llama... ¡ser un verdadero discípulo de Cristo!

MOTHER’S DAY RIBBONSA special ribbon to honor our mothers will be given at all the Masses on the weekend of May 13 and 14. The ribbon this year is teal blue with silver stamping. A dove and a cross with the words “Live in Peace” are set into the ribbon. Our mothers are very important to us. They support us in so many ways, especially by their prayers and caring. Let us make a special effort this year to honor our mothers and to cherish them with our prayers and love. The Blessed Virgin Mary is the patron of all mothers. Let us ask her intercession that all of those women who have helped in our upbringing and have given of themselves with devotion to us may be filled with every blessing!
Dear Lord, fill my mother with your blessings and enrich her soul with your grace. May she ever walk in the path of your Commandments and may I be her joy on earth and her crown in eternal glory. Amen.

Este año el color del listón es azul rey con estampado color plata. Imprimido con una paloma y una cruz y las palabras “Vivan en paz”. Nuestras madres son muy importantes para nosotros. Nos apoyan de muchas maneras, especialmente con sus oraciones y cariño. Hagamos un esfuerzo especial este año para honrar a nuestras madres y valorarlas con nuestras oraciones y amor. La Santísima Virgen es la patrona de todas las madres. ¡Pidamos su intercesión para que todas aquellas mujeres que han contribuido a nuestra educación y han dado de sí mismas con devoción para nuestro bienestar, sean colmadas de toda bendición!

Registration for families who did not participate in RE this year, will open in August.

2017 Holy Cross FestivalSeptember 16-17
Plans are underway for another successful Santa Cruz Catholic Church Holy Cross Festival. All ministries are needed to prepare for this celebration.
Join us at our next Ministry and Chairperson’s Meeting on Wednesday, May 17th at 6:30 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Men’s Club room in Deane Hall.
Raffle tickets will be available for pick-up beginning at the end of May. Look for more details in the bulletin soon.

Together Encounter Christ (TEC)TEC Retreat TEC (Together Encounter Christ) is an intergenerational move-ment focused on the Paschal Mystery of Jesus Christ. TEC is a high energy and spirit filled retreat where young adults explore and deepen their faith. Weekends are filled with witness talks, group discussions, personal reflections/prayer, recreations and live music. The TEC retreat is for young adults ages 17 (or a 2nd semester junior) and up.
TEC of Central Texas is a 3-day retreat hosted at Eagles Wings Retreat Center. You will experience a fresh, faith-filled atmosphere away from home, school, and/or work. Retreat participants meet, reflect, and share how they see themselves, their ideals, and their hopes/dreams while finding God’s presence in their life.
There are only two (2) TEC of Central Texas weekends each year and availability is limited.
