Out Of The Shadows What The Folk? Tomorrow’s Folk Now Exclusive! Its been 5 years in the making, but Finally, after years of writing and recording, Madcdras release that ever elusive 2nd album. The What The Folk team managed to catch up with lead singer Paul Frumpet, for an exclusive interview So, How have the last few years been in the studio? “ Well as you expect, it has Been a very stressful time, in a way it has been a test of our strength and friendship, But we got through, just.” (laughs) And is the new album greatly different from previous work? “Yes, Very, we decided to experiment more with unusual instruments, like bassoons and glokenshpiels, we thought it would add an element of something unmistak- ably new into the album.” Do you feel like it has been 5 years? “Yes (laughs) please don’t remind me, i feel completely knackered, it feels more like we have been recording for 20 years. and now we’re bordering on a tour!” How do you feel the new album compares to the last? “Well, again we added new musical elements into the mix, alot of new ideas have gone down sucessfully i think, we decided that it was high time we broadened our horizons and made Music a little different to how we used to.” Is the tour going to hit America at any point? “Well, we as a band have always wanted to play in america, but some- where rural you know, maybe little jazz bars and places like that. and now i think we all feel like we finally can play there, we have recently had a lot of interest from America, and we would love to go but as of yet no dates have been put down on paper, but yea that would be cool.” Do you think that it will be difficult to re- istablish yourself back into the British public? “It doesn’t really matter to us in a sense. I expect that some people will like our new mu- sic and as long as we are creating music that however many people are enjoying then we will remain happy., regardless of the amount. And i think its fair to say, after the years spent in the studio, we’re not going back for a long time. (Laughs) I think everyone is looking forward to spending time with freinds and family. We will give eachother a little breathing space.
