Who is Jesus Christ? It’s a question many outside and inside the church are trying to answer. In John’s gospel, Jesus answers this question with several “I am” statements about himself. For the next few weeks we are going to take a deeper look at some of them. As we read each of these texts we will learn some very important things not only about Jesus, but about who we are. Please join us for worship this Sunday as we continue our series.

THIS Sunday, Jan. 29th is a 5th Sunday! Make plans to attend this special day at our church!

We’ve started a new series learning how our words can help or hurt. Our Bible memory verse this series is Psalm 19:14, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, Oh Lord my Rock and my Redeemer.”

We have a new competition with our Bible Buck points. Who can be here the most in the month of January?! Since not all kids can be here on both Sundays AND Wednesdays, we will award the child/children who were here the most on Sundays and Wednesdays combined as well as award the child/children who were here the most Sundays. Several ties could happen and all will be rewarded! The competition will take place in February also! Get ready!

Parents Night Out is going to be Friday, February 17th from 6:00-9:00. Please RSVP for this by Wednesday, Feb 15th. The cost is $10 a child or $30 max per family. As always, please bring a snack for your child to share. The snacks need to be COMPLETELY NUT FREE please.

VBS 2017 DATE ANNOUNCEMENT: JUNE 26TH-30TH! Please mark all of your calendars for the biggest week in Children's Ministry at NLRFUMC!

Earlier this month I had the amazing opportunity to journey through parts of Greece and Italy, and walk through parts of Paul’s travels detailed in the book of Acts. Of course, I have read Acts and studied it in seminary classes and with small groups. But it came alive in a whole new way for me as I saw the places Paul visited and learned more about the people to whom he wrote. As we began our journey, our guide, Dr. Jim Fleming, shared a helpful metaphor for our trip. He related our travels, the sights we would see and the connections we would make to the Biblical Story, to the experience of listening to a musical soundtrack. Oftentimes, people become familiar with the music of a musical before they even have the opportunity to watch the performance. When you know the songs and then see them performed the story takes shape in a new way as the acts and scenes connect the familiar lyrics into a living, breathing story. At the end of our journey, this metaphor made perfect sense. To see the temples Paul was looking at in Athens as he made the argument for faith in Jesus Christ in Acts 17, made his line, “I see how extremely religious you are in every way,” jump off the page. To see an ancient bronze mirror in Corinth made the declaration of 1 Corinthians 13:12, “For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face,” take on an even deeper meaning. Scripture is a living, breathing story. I loved the time spent watching it come alive and I look forward to sharing more from this trip in upcoming sermons and lessons.
