There are six Photographic Society of America (PSA) Divisions: Projected Image Division (PID), Nature Division (ND), Photojournalism Division (PJD), Photo Travel Division (PTD), Pictorial Print Division (PPD) and 3D Division (3DD).

Divisions identify the top exhibitors worldwide on an annual basis, through the publication of a Who’s Who listing in a special edition of the PSA Journal. This listing includes all photographers who achieve an established level of success by participating in PSA-recognized exhibitions, whether they are PSA members or not.

The number of exhibitions recognized by PSA for all divisions grew 6%, from 311 in 2015 to 329 in 2016, and the total number of judgings grew 9%, from 2,294 judgings in 2015 to 2,501 judgings in 2016.

Who’s Who in Photography 2016 is PSA’s annual record of exhibitors in all divisions and sections of the Projected Image, Nature, Photojournalism, Photo Travel, Pictorial Print and 3D Divisions who have met the minimum number of acceptances in PSA-recognized exhibitions in 2016. The minimum number required is explained in each division’s section of this issue, along with a list of exhibitions. If the minimum number is four or less, the added requirement is acceptances in two or more judgings, thus any section with 20 or fewer judgings must meet this requirement.

Exhibitors are listed alphabetically in each section, along with three numbers, under the following column headings: Jdg = number of judgings in which the exhibitor had acceptances, according to EDAS (Exhibition Data Acceptances Spreadsheet) records, Acc = total number of Acceptances and AJS = average Judging Score.

Exhibition Judging Scores are posted in the Who’s Who area of PSA’s website and are updated periodically throughout the year. To view the 2016 Judging Scores, go to PSA’s home page, click on Who’s Who, and then click on the link, 2016 Exhibition

Judging Scores. There is also a brief description and example of how a participant can track his/her Average Judging Score throughout the year.

The asterisk symbol (**) denotes that the exhibitor has provided judging services in that Division. The number of acceptance credits given depends upon the number of judges on the panel: 3 judges = 3Acc, 4 or 5 = 2 Acc, 6 to 10 = 1 Acc and more than 10 = Zero (0) Acc. A judge must have actual acceptances in that section in order to receive judging credits.

The Top Exhibitor boxes list those individuals who achieved a minimum Average Judging Score (AJS) in a minimum number of judgings (Jdg). The minimum AJS and Jdg required are calculated separately and noted in each section.

Every effort has been made to record accurate information in this year’s Who’s Who; however, we are dependent on the accuracy of the exhibition’s results forwarded to PSA on their EDASs. Those exhibitions are, in turn, dependent on the consistency in which you, the entrant, enter your name and country. Name and country designation variation from one exhibition’s data to another prevents merging of acceptance results. Use of non-English/ Latin characters in names or image titles can result in removal from exhibition results.

Catalog errors should be reported immediately to the exhibition and appropriate Who’s Who and Star Ratings Directors. These corrections must be confirmed by the exhibition.

All PSA members who are among the top ten (10) in each Division’s annual Who’s Who section listings, based on Average Judging Score (AJS), receive a Who’s Who certificate. In Divisions that list fewer than ten (10) exhibitors “in the box,” all PSA members in those listings shall receive Who’s Who certificates.

All of us in PSA Exhibition Services, Exhibition Standards Directors, Who’s Who Directors, and Star Ratings Directors, are thankful to those exhibitions who took advantage of the instructions on the PSA website in submitting both catalogs and Exhibition Data Acceptances Spreadsheets (EDAS). We are aware that it has not been

easy for some to understand these instructions but appreciate the efforts of those who have worked with us in resolving a number of issues.

Projected Image Division (PID)—Color

There were 292 recognized exhibitions and circuits, consisting of 867 judgings and resulting in a total of 3,468 (867 X 4) possible Acceptances. This listing is comprised of exhibitors with 173 or more Acceptances, which is 5% of the total possible Acceptances, rounded down. Names with “**” following their countries served as judges, and their judging credits are included in the number of Acceptances.

The average Jdg was 184 (sum of all values in the Jdg column divided by the number of exhibitors listed in this section, rounded up). The average AJS was 2.730 (sum of all values in the AJS column divided by the number of exhibitors, rounded up). The Top Exhibitors Box contains 35 exhibitors, all of whom met the criteria of at least 184 judgings and having an AJS of at least 2.730.

Editorial AwardsThe PSA Editorial Awards program was established in 1957 for the express purpose of recognizing those members in the Society who contribute articles and photographs for publication in the PSA Journal. The basic procedures established at the beginning of the program have basically remained unchanged. To qualify for Who’s Who, a member must have earned at least twenty points during the calendar year. Points awarded range from two for a news item to thirty for a feature article on a photographic technique and are recorded and maintained by the Chairman.

The images published in this issue of the 2016 PSA Who’s Who in Photography are from PSA members who ranked high in the Top Exhibitors boxes in 2015. The members were invited to submit images andsome of the photos were chosen for publication.


The Photographic Society of America (PSA) is a worldwide organization providing a wide range of services that promote photography and benefits to its members. Individual members can participate in competitions, study groups and online education programs designed to advance their photographic knowledge and skills. Competitions are held for clubs, councils, federations and chapters, also. Member image galleries are always available for viewing. An annual youth photography showcase, open to all students of high school age, is conducted as well.
