Korean Drawing Class

The drawing class was held on every Wednesday and Friday afternoon. It took place in OIA (office of international affairs) and about 30 students joined the course. Since it was held twice a week, students could choose between those two days to attend the drawing class. It provided a calm atmosphere for the students. This class was started with the basics on how to draw an

object. The interesting view on this drawing class is the students not only learn how to draw , but also learn about how to understand Korean language because sometimes the teacher, Ms. Lee speaks Korean. The first drawing class in Syiah Kuala University has began for 2 weeks. It iwas taught directly by a Korean drawing artist Mrs. Lee JungHee. Under the Memorandum of Under- standing between Syiah Kuala University Ms. Lee and her husband Mr. Park Woochul came to Unsyiah to be volunteer staff at Korean cultural center. They teach students how to draw as well as how to speak Korean. Mostly the student that joined this class are from the Architecture Department, Faculty of Engineering, mixed with some students from Faculty of Economics. Surpris- ingly some of the female students can speak Korean and Mrs. Lee actually can speak Indonesian. This classs is sure to be lively. This class requires student to pay one hundres thousand rupiah for the facilities that they will use during the class, such as: pencils, drawing papers and easels. easels are three-legged stands that are used to hold the drawing paper. it gives students the experience of becoming artists and the registration and administration fee for this class is free. that’s why this a fun class is a great class to join in.

Geologic Record of Tsunami Research by Katrin Monecke

Language Research Planning in Aceh

Language is a culture and it can show someone’s identity. Basically, when someone speaks by using current language, you will know where he comes from. Unfortunately recently people are not used to or even not intend to speak in local language, thus it causes the one current local language be “die” or “fall asleep”.Since nowadays local languages are at level of dangerous. Dr. Rob Amery, a Linguist from University of Adelaide, was intended to conduct a local language research at Aceh at the following year. He wanted to visit inland of Pulau Banyak and interact with people from there. He wanted to know deeply about the “sleep” language or called Haloban.

Recently, he gave a presentation about died local language in a public seminar that was held by Syiah Kuala University which took place at Teacher Training Program building. He presented about his previous research of Aboriginal language and other related explanations. On another chance, he would present about his presentation again on

the day of Syiah Kuala University Dies Natalis celebration, which would take place at Dayan Dawood (AAC) building.
