Early morning bass fishing has remained very predictable; of course some mornings are better than others. Being prepared and on the water fishing as it is just getting light is a key component to success. A spinner bait with double willow leaf blades has been working very well. A skinny dipper or other style of swim bait will work too; there has been resurgence in the use of a horny toad in the heavy Kissimmee grass areas. The east side of the lake has been yielding large numbers of bass for months now, early morning on the outside edges and then moving further back into the marsh areas as the day progresses. Eagle Bay and Grassy Island are both holding large numbers of bass, there are days when the waves are too large to manage your boat position so be adjustable in your plans. The Indian Prairie area of the lake

is yielding good numbers of fish as well. Areas with a mixture of native grasses are great areas to start your day as you for schools of fish. We are still catching bass on top water bait when we can find them actively chasing bait. A Carolina rig dragged along the outside edges of the Kissimmee grass have been working for anglers willing to use the slower presentation and can result in hooking up with larger fish. I am seeing more fly rod anglers than is normal for this time of year and they are producing good catches of small bass and decent size blue gill. A small spider type floater or a popping bug is both producing a lot of strikes. Look for areas with a hard line of cover, such as topped out hydrilla or thick matted grass for the best success.

The next meeting of the Community Collaborative Council, a part of the Shared Services Network of Okeechobee, will be Tuesday August 27, at 10:00 in the board room of the School Board office. Thank you for your generous donations of school items for needy and

foster children. This will include a planning session for the Seventh Annual Okeechobee Family Health and Safety Expo scheduled for Saturday January 25, 2014.

Okeechobee Baseball 2013 Golf Tournament Fun-draiser will be Saturday August 24 at St. James Golf Club 5613 NW St. James Blvd. The event begins at 8:30 there will be a $240.00 per team/ foursome fee. Teach a child by example. Through August 31st , when anyone 18 years of age or younger gets a haircut at Hair Cuttery, next door to Publix, they will donate a FREE haircut certificate to an Okeechobee child in need through their Share a Haircut promotion.
