What is OKTA?
OKTA is a cloud based identity management service used to manage access to our many
business tools and products. Essentially this portal acts as a central entrance point to many
of our existing tools including ECIP, SITREP and Model Hospital to name but a few.
Access and registration
To access the OKTA Portal, open the following web address in your internet browser:
https://improvement.nhs.uk/my-nhsi/register/
2
The Set-up/Registration screen entitled
‘Register for an account’ will now be
displayed.
Enter your NHS email address, as well as
first and last names in the relevant fields.
Please ensure that you use lower case
letters when registering your email address.
If you have an existing account, click the
Sign in here link.
Please note: if you use a non NHS email address
as part of your registration criteria, the account will
have to be verified and approved and so you will not
have automatic access to the Improvement Hub until
this approval is granted.
In the Organisation or provider field,
start typing the name of the desired
provider.
The search results will appear below
the box. Search results are refined as
more text is entered.
Click to select the desired organisation.
If the required trust is not listed, select
‘Other’.
3
If you require access to additional
applications such as ECIP or Model
Hospital, click the tick box in the
Access to additional apps section.
Use of these additional apps requires
verification and approval from the relevant
product/app owners.
To facilitate this process complete the
questions requesting your profession and
seniority level using the drop-down menus to
make the relevant selection.
Select the areas of the report which are of most interest
to you.
Tick the box to agree with the terms and conditions, and then
complete the security exercise.
4
Click Verify when you have selected your answers.
A notification will appear confirming that
your registration request has been
submitted and is awaiting approval.
Instructions on the next steps in the
registration process will also be
displayed.
When your registration request has been approved, you will receive a confirmation email.
To complete the registration process, click the link as instructed.
5
Creating an NHS Improvement account
When you click the link, the Create your NHS
Improvement account screen will be displayed.
Create a password and confirm it is correct by repeating
the entry in the Repeat new password field.
Then select a suitable password question, to be used if
you forget your password or if problems with the
password occur in the future.
Click the drop-down menu to display a list of possible
questions. Select one and input your answer.
Alternatively, if you find that none of the available
questions are suitable, you can create your own
security question.
Type the question in the Custom question field
and the Answer in the Answer field.
You also need to select a default image to be displayed on
any security or log-in page you access.
Select your chosen image by clicking on it.
When all the required options have been selected, click
Create My Account.
6
Quick Tip:
• Once you have selected Create My Account,
if any of the registration fields have not been
completed correctly, an error message will
appear at the top of the page outlining the
nature of the error and what fields need to be
amended.
Once you have successfully created your account, the My Applications page will be
displayed. Initially this acts as an introductory page for first-time users, giving hints and tips
to the functionality of this homepage.
Click Got it! to hide the hints.
From this page you can access the various reports and applications available via NHS
Improvement.
Select the desired
application from the
options available.
