Use a BIG calendar

• Put a BIG calendar in a public place• If you have an electronic version in a “public

place” that is useful. • People who use their phones as a calendar

can add events themselves. • Having a public hard-copy gives people a

visual that helps keep them on track.

holidays for an event.

• You may wish to avoid having your events on or near other major community events.

• Examples: THS Charity Drive, Rose Festival, County Fair

Note the Academic Calendar

• Avoid major ‘crazy’ weeks for events• Things like mid-terms and finals can seriously

hinder participation. • Know when your events might have the most

impact (I.e. Registration week)

Work backwards

• Set the dates for major events like induction• Set deadlines for accomplishing tasks to make

the event a success.• Examples: Hallmark awards due date (early Feb)– Start research (now)– Review research (two weeks from now)– Plan project (early September)– Do project (early October)– Start writing entry (mid-November)
