Quality

OMC Social Media GuidelinesAccountability-Superior Service-Teamwork-Integrity-Compassion-Enthusiasm-Respect

1. Always protect patient privacy! Never reveal any information that would make the identity of a patient apparent. Always abide by all HIPAA regulations.

2. Follow all applicable OMC policies. For example, you must not share confidential or proprietary information about OMC. You also may not create a social media about OMC or an OMC activity without the consent of Administrative Council. For the complete policy, see Acceptable Use of Computers and Electronic Media Policy on the OMC Portal.

3. Do not use OMC computers to access social media websites.

4. Write in the first person. Where your connection to OMC is apparent, make it clear that you are speaking for yourself and not on behalf of OMC. For example, you may want to include this disclaimer: “The views expressed on this blog/website are my own and do not reflect the views of my employer.”

5. Use a personal e-mail address as your primary means of identification. Just as you would not use OMC stationary for a letter to the editor with your personal views, do not use your OMC e-mail address for personal views.

6. If your blog, posting or other online activities are inconsistent with, or would negatively impact OMC’s reputation or brand, you should not refer to OMC, or identify your connection to OMC.

7. Be respectful and professional in your communications to and about others. This includes co-workers, business partners, competitors and patients.

8. Don’t think your social media posts are private. Users should know anything posted on Facebook can and will become public. Remember that if you wouldn’t want your manager or others at OMC to see your comments, it is unwise to post them to the Internet. Even if you delete something, it may not be gone for good from the Internet.

9. Ensure that your blogging and social networking activity does not interfere with your work commitments.

10. Nothing in these guidelines will be interpreted or enforced in a manner to restrict any employee’s ability to engage in concerted protected activity under the National Labor Relations Act with his/her co-workers regarding wages, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment. These guidelines are not intended to govern or restrict personal presence on the web or to abridge or otherwise restrict principles of freedom.

11. Contact the OMC Public Relations and Marketing Department (257-6735) if you have questions about what is appropriate to include in your blog or social networking profile.

Flu Shot UpdateThanks to everyone who has gotten the flu vaccine. As of October 14, more than 625 OMC coworkers have received the flu vaccine. All coworkers must get the flu vaccine or provide a declination form (and medical documentation as appropriate) by Friday, October 30.

Many coworkers have not completed the Flu module in NetLearning. This module is required. It will provide you with answers to many of your flu-related questions. Please log into NetLearning today to complete this important learning. The due date for this requirement is October 30, 2015.

The flu vaccine is available through Employee Health. Employee Health can also discuss alternatives to the standard shot if that is a concern for you.

On October 23, Department Directors will be given a list of the coworkers in their areas who have received the vaccine. They will be following up with coworkers who have not gotten the vaccine to prepare for the mask protocol.

There is no flu reported in our area at this time. We are working with the medical staff to set the effective date for the wearing of masks. Please be aware that the requirement for wearing masks may change quickly, based on the information we receive about flu in our area.

Thank you for helping protect OMC patients and coworkers,

Connie Schott, ext. 6731
