A Dream Come TrueWritten by: Morgan Mishler

In the past 10-20 years there have been several advances in technology. People think that this is not a good thing and that we are “dumbing” down the next generations. But others see these inven-tions as a benefi t. Some people assume that the cell phone has been one of the greatest inventions of all time. Yes, it has brought us texting, mobile instant messaging, mobile email and so many other things. A young lady had a late night at the offi ce and there are no other cars in the parking garage except hers. The moon is barely shinning over head and there is a slight breeze. She is going to unlock her car when she hears the sound of foot steps. She turns and she sees a man with a mask on and is instantly frightened. Knowing he was far enough away from her, she pulled out her cell phone and called 911. The police arrive 3 minutes later to what could have been a tragic crime scene. Instead it was a shaken young lady hiding inside her car. The man had been scared off by the sound of the sirens. She led a police offi cer to where he had run off too. And one had stayed behind to comfort her. This is only one of the millions of incidences that have been stopped because someone had called 911. If one would have had this same instance happen before cell phones were around, that person would most likely not life to tell the tale. Cell phones have made it easy for people on the road or not near a land line. Crime and acci-dents can occur anywhere. If there was no way of contacting law offi cials on the go, there would be a lot of hurt or even dead

Cell phones can help prevent crime immensely, but when it comes to family and friends it is a huge help. Not everyone can live in the same town, state or even country. So it’s very hard to stay in contact. Not everyone is at home all the time to pick up their land line and call. And when there is a family emergency, it could take days for another family mem-ber to check their landline for messages. Cell phones have made it easier to contact one another because no matter where one is, they could call. It’s just up to the other person to answer. Also, in modern day life, people expand businesses all across the nation and the world. Many CEO’s and business managers like to have, what most call, a video conference. Cell phone companies have what they call a “smart phone”. You can use it to access the internet email and most importantly, video chats. Most phones usually come with an application for video chat such as Skype or Facetime. This has made it much easier for one to have their meetings where ever they may be. Whether it is on the road, in a bathroom or even in your kitchen. A young lady had a late night at the offi ce and there are no other cars in the parking garage except hers. When I was 10 years old I was at my little brothers baseball game. It was the bottom of the 3rd inning and my brother was out on the fi eld. My mom had got up to go to the restroom. She was stumbling so my dad walked with her. I turned to watch my brother play when I heard my dad scream “someone call 911!” When I looked over I saw my mom lying on the ground cringed up and twitching. It is an image I will never forget. After that incident, my parents had ex-plained to my brothers and I that my mom was sick. She had multiple sclerosis. My little brothers were confused as to what that meant. My parents broke it down for them to understand. After they explained it I wanted to fi nd out for myself what was going on in my mom’s body. I went and researched for hours and hours. Eventu-ally, the same answer was popping up. My mom is gradually dying faster than any other healthy human being. It was hard to take in. But instead of crying, I grew up

It is my goal everyday to make my mom smile and to protect her from what ever I can. Also to make sure that I do what ever I can to make her life easier. I try my best to protect her from people that make fun of her, also the people that judge her for her situation. I try my best to make her life easier so she doesn’t have to clean the kitchen every 5 minutes or she doesn’t have to do the laundry constantly. Those little things for her add up. Even the slightest activities make her exhausted. I try my hardest everyday to make her life better when really, she lives her life perfectly. Every day she gets up in the morning and has a plan of what to get fi nished no matter what. She does things she shouldn’t do just because she wants to fi ght what is going on in her body. I have never seen anyone fi ght as hard as she does. And even when she doesn’t feel good or she can’t get out of bed and hug me, she is always there to not only be my mom, but to be my best friend. I try to be her hero but really, she is mine. She is what I have turned myself into. If I had not witnessed my mom have that seizure, I don’t know where I would be right now.
