Jordan Fried is a junior political science major. Jordan became involved on
campus early on, serving as the Council President of the Spaulding
Residence Hall his freshman year. While holding this office, Jordan
organized a ticket, The Bull Moose Party, ran and was elected to the SA
Senate. Jordan’s skill in business and economics made him an obvious
choice for the Senate Finance Committee, where he was quickly appointed.
As a SA Senator, Jordan worked personally with clubs and their presidents
in order to consult them on their budget issues and help review budget
proposals. After serving the Senate for a year, Jordan was successfully re-
elected to his Senator position as well as being re-appointed to the Finance
Committee this fall. In the spring of 2009, Jordan ran with The Student
Party as a candidate for SA Treasurer and was elected. Jordan Fried is
currently the treasurer of SA, working with the over one hundred and fifty
clubs on a daily basis. Besides managing a $4.2 million dollar budget, Jordan
has worked closely with the rest of the E-Board to bring 24-hour busing to
campus, improve club services, bridge the gap between students and SA,
create the new Environmental Department and a host of other pro-student
accomplishments. Jordan is an avid Buffalo sports fan and enjoys traveling,
spending time with friends and playing tennis.
Kevin Southern is a junior political science major. For the past three years,
Kevin has serviced as South Campus resident advisor working with
freshmen, upperclassmen, international and foreign exchange students. As
an RA, Kevin also served as an Orientation Aide in his sophomore year.
Kevin Southern has been involved with countless clubs on campus and has
also sat on the executive boards of several of them. Since 2007, Kevin has
been an e-board member of UB Step Troupe, and currently sits as the UBST
president. Kevin, as an involved and influential member of Black Student
Union is currently Mr. BSU, acting as a representative and extended e-
board member. In his capacity as both a member and an executive board
representative, Kevin has been involved in countless club events from UBST
step competitions, to BSU’s Black Explosion. Kevin is also Vice President of
the Delta Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Kevin’s
leadership experience extends off campus to the office of NYS Senator
Antoine Thompson where he serves as an intern. In his free time Kevin
enjoys playing football, basketball, running track and is an active member
of his church community.
Ryan Linden is a junior accounting major, in the Honors Department.
Appearing on the Deans List each semester, Ryan is currently set to graduate
in the spring of 2011 as Magna Cum Laude of the Accounting School. In his
freshman year Ryan served as the Council Vice President of Spaulding. In the
spring of his freshman year, Ryan pledged for Alpha Epsilon Pi and was elected
as the fraternity’s vice president at the end of that year. In his sophomore
year, Ryan joined Beta Alpha Psi Accounting Honors organization and served
as the faculty-student liaison for the organization. As the faculty-student
liaison, he secured proctors for the Intro to Accounting classes and supervised
for Intro to Accounting classes tutoring services. During his junior year, Ryan
was initiated as a full time member of Beta Alpha Psi and was put in charge of
the biggest community service operation on campus (Volunteer Income Tax
Assistance Program). In the fall of his junior year, Ryan also joined the Student
Association and hired as an assistant bookkeeper, and promoted to head
bookkeeper months after. Outside of the SA office, Ryan loves music (Muse,
Red Hot Chili Peppers and Radiohead), plays the guitar, piano and bass and co-
stars on the UBTV show, “The Smash with Arthur Mash.”

VOTE MARCH 23RD, 24TH & 25TH
Davonte Shannon is a junior sociology major at UB. In 2007 Davonte, who plays defensive back for the UB Bulls, became UB’s first Mid-
American Conference first-team selection after a stellar season. Davonte entered the starting lineup against Baylor in week four and
became a mainstay the rest of the season, setting a UB Division I-A record by recording 123 tackles (the seventh-best figure in school
history) and led all freshman in the nation in tackles. Davonte is the only UB player to have been named twice to the ALL-MAC first
team and has had multiple 100+ tackles seasons since joining the team. Davonte is currently the third ranking strong safety in the
nation and is seen as being a top draft pick for the NFL in the near future. Off the field, Davonte is highly involved in the community; he
frequently volunteers at the VA hospital and with several local charities. A role model to fellow students and teammates, Davonte
remains active within the Student Association, where he not only frequents SA and club events, such as Black Explosion, the Comedy
Series and International Fiesta, but also worked one on one with Amanda Jonas, current SUNY Delegate, to help SA figure out ways to
bridge the gap between the Student Association and the athletic department. In his free time, Davonte enjoys going out with friends,
playing basketball and listening to music.
Amanda Jonas is a junior English major at the University at Buffalo. She has been very active at UB since her freshman year when
she joined the Student Association at a legislative level through the Student Assembly. In her sophomore year, Amanda continued
her dedication to SA and ran with the Bull Moose Party and was elected to a seat on Senate. In the spring of 2010, Amanda ran
alongside The Student Party and was elected to the role she is currently holding now, SUNY Delegate. As a SUNY Delegate,
Amanda has worked hard to represent the students at UB not only on a campus-wide level, but also as an Upstate Representative
for the University Centers at a statewide level. Throughout her term as a delegate she has worked to fight SUNY budget cuts,
worked to keep TAP (Tuition Assistance Program) from receiving a 24 million dollar cut, and helped the SA E-Board bring 24-hour
busing to UB. Outside of SA, Amanda is in the Honors College and the Honors English program. She has been a member of the UB
Men’s Crew Team, the UB Mock Trial Team, College Republicans and currently writes for the Spectrum. Outside of the classroom,
Amanda enjoys following politics, traveling, figure drawing and is a student coach for her high school Mock Trial team.
Jennifer Harb is a junior biomedical sciences major with a minor in sociology. She is a Dean’s List student in the Honors College
at UB and an anatomy teaching assistant. On campus, she has gotten involved with a number of honor societies and currently
holds executive board positions for two such organizations. She is the Community Engagement Chair for both Sigma Alpha Pi, a
leadership society, and the Golden Key Honour Society. Jennifer is also the Community Engagement Liaison for the Student
Association and, as such, is responsible for offering community service opportunities to all undergraduates on campus. She
works closely with the Center for Student Leadership and Community Engagement office and the United Way to plan campus-
wide events such as UB Getting Dirty, a favorite among the many clubs at UB. Jennifer is also very active in the community and
frequently coordinates and volunteers with Habitat for Humanity, the American Red Cross, and ECMC, among many others. She
sat on the board to help organize Group Work Camps, a massive renovating endeavor involving five hundred students
rebuilding some of Buffalo’s neediest neighborhoods. For fun, she enjoys playing sports, sudoku, and writing. She participates in
Carefree Club Soccer, played in the International Club Soccer Tournament, and runs in her free time. She also is a staff writer for
the Spectrum.
Yazan ALsaadeh is a junior in the civil engineering department. One of UB’s many international students, Yazan came to UB in
2008 from his home country, Jordan. In his first year at UB, Yazan became a spokes person for the English Language Institute (ELI),
which is an on campus program that offers English language instruction, cultural orientation, and pre-academic training to
international students. In the fall of 2009, Yazan served on the executive boards of the United Nations club as the vice president
and OAS (Organization of Arab Students) as an overly active member. Yazan is also an active member of UB SEDS (Students for
the Exploration and Development of Space), ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers), Turkish SA and the Muslim Student
Association. During his free time, Yazan enjoys listening to traditional Arab music, traditional dancing and also is an avid soccer
fan. Yazan hopes to inspire more international students to seek office in the Student Association. He wants not only to promote
awareness and understanding of his own culture but to help all international and foreign exchange students share their diverse
cultures and experiences with the rest of UB.

OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY IS YOU
A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDENT ASSOCIATION
The University at Buffalo is the largest public research university in the state; so it should
be no surprise that the Student Association at the UB is bigger and better than any other
student government in the SUNY system. The Student Association is the voice of the
undergraduate student population at the University at Buffalo. What does this mean? This
means that SA provides the necessary funding to over 180 clubs on campus, brings free
concerts and events to all undergrads and represents the student body’s best interests at
a campus and state wide level. You make it possible for SA to provide all of these services
through the Mandatory Student Activity fee that you pay each semester. Therefore, it only
makes sense that you make a wise choice in who decides where your money goes.

SA Club House
WE HAVE OVER ONE-HUNDRED CLUBS
During our years at UB, we've learned about the various clubs and councils that help constitute the Student Association. We have noted particular
complaints and insufficiencies that need to be addressed, and we hope to do so adequately. We understand that clubs appreciate their autonomy and,
as such, we want to simply be a support system. We want to make the space, funds, and resources available for club usage whenever it is needed. We
have listened to your concerns and want to make improvements in every way that we can.
THE NICHOLAS ORRANGE MEMORIAL CLUBHOUSE
One of our first initiatives is to create the Nicholas Orrange Memorial Clubhouse. We seek to not only commemorate the life and works of a great
young man, but also to offer a venue for clubs that consistently find themselves without adequate meeting or office space. Within the fully furnished
Clubhouse, you'll be able to locate the newly-created SA Archive, lists of commonly used vendors, and necessary club forms. Additionally, we believe
the addition of computers, a printer, and supplies for poster creation would be useful amenities. This room would be staffed during Student Association
business hours to ensure that those requiring assistance have an outlet for immediate help. The Clubhouse will be located in the current coordinators
office which has a lot of wasted space. The coordinators will be relocated to new office space.
THE SA ARCHIVE
Numerous club executive boards have expressed difficulty in bridging the gap between the past and the present. Therefore, we want to create the SA
Archives, which will be housed in the Nicholas Orrange Memorial Clubhouse and available for the use of any club member. We believe these should
contain pertinent information about past executive board members, the planning of annual events, as well as relevant club history that can assist the
club in the present and future. With these new avenues of communication and information, we hope that any transition between club executive
boards will be smooth and effective.
GRANT LINES AND APPROVED VENDORS
Various club councils have different needs. It's important that these needs are recognized and appropriate actions are taken. First, we want to
supplement the individual club budgets by creating grant lines. These lines, for example, can be used for things such as buying new jerseys or
equipment or to encourage participation in various tournaments or competitions. They're open for club usage, so tell us what you need! We want our
clubs to have the resources to be as active and sophisticated as possible, and what better way to support clubs than in the area that frequently causes
the most strife. Additionally, we've seen that acquiring necessary materials for events or projects can, at times, be a lengthy and tedious process. To
facilitate this, we'd like to provide a list of approved vendors for the clubs. Therefore, obtaining approval can be quicker, which means that you receive
the items you need sooner. Of course, the use of outside vendors is still an option. We just want to quicken the process.
TRANSPORTATION FOR CLUBS
Transportation has been a recurring problem for many clubs. As a solution to this problem, we propose a number of changes. First, we will look into the
option of purchasing more vans for club usage. It is important that we have adequate resources for all the clubs included under the Student
Association. Secondly, we realize that the sign-up for vans is difficult for those that do not know their schedules months in advance. We intend on
implementing a system that will keep a certain number of vans available for short-notice usage, up to a certain point as to not withhold resources.
Thirdly, we understand that some clubs simply sign-out vans for short-term trips to run errands. Instead of renting the vans for a number of days, we
propose to offer the option of renting for a certain number of hours to increase availability. We've listened to the clubs' concerns and we hope we have
transformed them into effective solutions to facilitate club transportation at UB.
CLUB FUNDRAISING
Many of those that have attempted to fundraise have found that it is much easier said than done. However, fundraising is still a very important aspect
of club life. Therefore, we plan to establish a Fundraising Advisor position to assist those that need guidance. We want to create one more avenue for
clubs and we hope this will prove to be a very useful resource.
TEMPORARY CLUBS
We want to encourage the temporary clubs to become mainstays on our campus. Therefore, we will hold an informational meeting for these clubs to
discuss the requirements. By creating the SA Fundraising Advisor position, the clubs can also collaborate and discuss ways to raise funds for their cause
and events. Additionally, we plan to offer office space for the clubs so they have a location to meet and accomplish their goals. We will work closely
with the executive boards of the temporary clubs to assist them in becoming permanent.
VOTE MARCH 23RD,24TH & 25TH
19,000 UNDERGRADS, ONE VOICE
CARS AND PARKING ON CAMPUS
As most of us are aware, parking on campus is usually a very difficult process. We
recognize this issue and have sought out ways to alleviate the problem. First, we have
looked into a company that would bring a park-assist program to campus. This would
consist of driving up to a designated area where your car will then be parked for you, in
exchange for a small fee. We hope to take a small amount of the stress and worry out of
the students’ lives via cleaning up the mess we call parking at UB.
BRIDING THE GAP BETWEEN SA AND ATHLETES
This upcoming school year, we hope to establish and foster the necessary connections
between Divisions I athletic programs at UB and the undergraduate student population.
One initiative we’re especially excited to reveal is our goal of bringing more
undergraduates to out-of-town sporting events in which these athletes participate. We
hope to bring more inexpensive, if not free, transportation to and from and tickets for
these events. It is important to show our support for these teams outside of the UB
stadium. Similarly, as we seek to bring students to the games, we want to bring the
athletes to SA club events, such as Black Explosion, International Fiesta, and Gala.
Encouraging athlete participation and involvement in major club events brings about new
contacts, potential members, and networking opportunities. Additionally, we want to not
only broadcast the Division I games on UBTV, but also publicize and air sporting events
from various club teams. This link between athletics and the Student Association is
unprecedented and we’re excited for the addition of this new dimension.
LAUNDRY FACILITIES
As students that formerly lived in the residence halls and apartments on campus, we have
noticed that many of the laundry facilities are inadequate in both number and function.
Therefore, we hope to alleviate this problem by advocating for improvements to these
facilities through a monetary contribution towards this cause. We believe that this is an
issue that affects far too many students on a regular basis to go without the support of
the students themselves. We hope to make a noticeable difference and encourage those
students living on campus to voice their opinions and complaints.
CREDIT AND DEBIT CARDS AT CDS
The fact that many of the vendors on campus do not accept credit cards has been a
recurring complaint. Although campus cash and dining dollars are typically useful
alternatives for many students, others find that they would purchase the food and
beverages on campus much more often if credit cards were accepted. The addition and
use of UB card funds appears to be an unnecessary step in the process of purchasing
goods. Therefore, we want to initiate discussions with appropriate staff members to
change this policy. Hopefully this will make things easier for many students when they
choose to purchase food and beverages on campus. Additionally we full plan to use our
FSA board seats to lobby CDS to reach-out to more area vendors to may campus cash
more widely accepted.

PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL POLICE
We recognize the ongoing problem with crime on and around our campuses. In order to
help prevent such unnecessary events from occurring, we plan to converse with the
Buffalo, Amherst, and UB police forces to increase collaborative efforts. In conjunction
with the other safety measures we intend to implement on campus, we hope that the
result will be a much safer area to live and work. The strength of one unified police force
can help reinforce the communication between the men and women who keep us safe
and the students who go here. Additionally we’d work to get the men and women of the
Amherst police force to campus events which we feel would open new possibilities for the
type of events we could bring to UB.
NFTA ACCESS
Niagara Frontier Transit Authority Metro Bus Pass would be a great addition to this
university. Every other institution in Buffalo provides a semester bus pass for unlimited
ride and transfers for students who attend and pay the Mandatory Student Activity Fee.
At this university we pride ourselves on the extensive and lucrative transportation system
we have. To limit overcrowding in parking lots, and to help students explore the
wonderful city of Buffalo, it would be ideal to make bus passes available for every student
at the university.
CAMPUS LIBRARIES
The state of the libraries on campus has garnered a great deal of attention this past
semester. In response to the complaints and obvious need for renovation, we will
advocate for the improvement of the libraries on campus. We believe that offering a
quality workspace for students to study is an important feature of a university and, thus,
we will promote the restoration of the libraries. Additionally, we would like to add more
lockers for students to use on campus as we recognize that there is a great demand for
this resource.
UB MERT
Safety on campus is one of our top priorities. If nothing else, the recent incident at
Lockwood Library helped us all to realize that in the event of a true emergency, a near-
immediate medical response is of the utmost importance. With the understanding that
north campus does not currently have a health service provider and would thus be unable
to provide the timely assistance deemed necessary, we want to bring the UB Medical
Emergency Response Team (MERT) to campus. With oversight from UB administration,
the Student Association, and the community, UB MERT will be able to provide first
response basic life support in the event of an emergency on campus. Students that are
state-licensed E.M.T's will be dispatched by UB police and thus will be the first to arrive at
an incident. Therefore, in the event of a medical emergency, the prompt response each
student deserves can finally be a reality.

TRANSPORTATION
This year Jordan, Amanda and the other SA elected officers worked hard to bring you 24-hour
busing, but we also understand that there are still improvements that can be made on UB's
transportation system. Many students who live on campus do not have cars, and the bus to the
mall or Tops is not always a viable option. Also, transportation to downtown Buffalo is limited, and
many students enjoy spending weekends at the downtown nightlife scene.
TRANSPORTATION - CARSHARE
For students who do not have cars, or easy access to one, we will bring Buffalo Car Share to UB.
Students will be able to set up an account online, and sign up for available hours of car service.
Upon registering online, you will receive an electronic car starter, and it will be active during your
scheduled hours. All you will have to do is show up to the designated parking spot that our UB
shared car is in, and you will be able to borrow the car. Have you ever wanted to be able to stop at
Wegman's but couldn't find a way there? Well now you will have weekly access to grocery
shopping, a nearby restaurant, or the mall.
TRANSPORTATION – DOWNTOWN
We will improve the transportation system for students who would like to go to downtown Buffalo.
We are going to have meetings with NFTA in order to create a student pass for train services. This
will not only save money, but it will save the nuisance of buying a metro ticket every time you
would like to take the train. Aside from train services we are going to meet with transportation to
expand bussing services downtown on weekends. It may seem like a long shot, but after our
success with 24 hour busing, we are confident that we can work something out.
COMMUTERS
More than 60 percent of our undergraduate student population commute to campus. Why, then,
are our commuter lounges so inadequate? We recognize that these areas on campus need to be
remodeled and we fully intend on making those changes. We hope to bring in new couches and
tables, as well as new televisions and computers. With these changes, the commuter lounges
should be a comfortable area that students can go do work, catch up on some sleep, or watch
television between classes.
TEXTING PROGRAM
Have you ever had to walk back to your car, apartment, or dorm at night after a long session at the
library or an evening class? Incidentally, most of the reported attacks on campus have happened at
these precise times. Thus, it is imperative that we make an effort to ensure the safety of each and
every student. The RAVE Texting program is the first step in such an initiative. We will pay for each
student to have access to this safety measure, which simply consists of the following: upon leaving
your destination, text the dispatch number your current location, where your car is parked, and
how long it should take you to arrive there (i.e: at Student Union, Car in Jarvis B, 10 minutes). Then,
upon arriving, send a confirmation text indicating such. If the text is not sent, two designated
contacts will be called to check on your status. If neither of those contacts can confirm your
location, the UB police will be alerted and will investigate instantly. With this service available, your
safety can be secured at all hours when departing from campus.
