Onerahi Primary School Celebrating Learning July 2017 July 2017 July 2017 July 2017 Together We Shape Our Future Together We Shape Our Future Together We Shape Our Future Together We Shape Our Future No. 3 No. 3 No. 3 No. 3 Room 13 Year 5 - Hatea Loop Finding out about information about the Hatea Loop Brianna, Emmanuelle and Jasmin found rocks around the loop and decided to find out about what it was all about and how they could get involved. It all started in Washington in the USA by an artist Heather Knox. This has lead the students to do further study about how they could implement the rocks at Onerahi and start their own Onerahi Rocks. Room 17 Year 6 Has been learning about go food (foods that are good for you). We chose to promote healthy eating through advertisements. We have learnt how to present an advertisement using bold fonts and colours that work together like blue and yellow. By Kayden J Fowler. Room 12 Year 3 Mandarin Learning Students have been learning about the Dragon Festival and learnt the legend they also made some fancy looking Dragon Boats. Room 8 Year 2 Writing by Kyla Last night we went to Ruakaka to watch Jake ride his drift bike on the dirt track. Someone at the dirt track told us that a whale had beached itself on the beach. Dad drove the truck up the hill and back down. Then we got onto the sand and we jumped out of the truck. We saw a big black blob of something. We went closer and closer and I leaned over and saw some teeth but no eyes, they were closed. It was a boy sperm whale. It was 15 metres long and it was only a baby. The man said they usually grow much bigger than this one. We touched its teeth and they felt like smooth stones. We touched its skin and it felt somewhat slimy. The whale got very stinky so we decided to go home. We had fun. It was awesome being able to see a real live whale and even touch it. However we were sad that it did not make and died. It was still fun though. Room 14 Year 3/4 Room 14 have been learning about Sound and understanding sound waves. They made 3D models of he human ear - including the outer (Pinna and ear canal) Middle (Drum, ossicles - hammer anvil and stirrup) and inner ear - Cochlea. Winter Sports Thursday 8 th of June Year 5 and 6 students represented Onerahi at the annual winter sporting event at Kensington. All schools in Whangarei participate in playing each other in a range of sports. This year there was Turbo Touch, Soccer, Netball, Basketball, Gymnastics and Table Tennis.

Room 13 – Year 5 - Hatea Loop

Finding out about information about the Hatea Loop –

Brianna, Emmanuelle and Jasmin found rocks around the

Bowling Tournament - 7th of June

A great day out – lots of fun, personal

achievements and some teams won

Kiorahi – Visiting Raur imu to play Kiorahi – The

Onerahi Kapa haka performed and students played

each other in the sport at Raurimu here are some of

Hatea Loop Walk – Connecting with the

Community

Thanks to so many parents that came to share the

Onerahi Hatea Loop Walk such a memorable

experience for all students and it is an opportunity

for all teachers to connect with parents and whanau

in an informal setting – together we shape our future
