Kimmel Center Cultural Campus
Dear friends,
Happy New Year, and welcome to the Academy of Music on the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus, the two-week home of this 10-time-Tony Winner and Winner for Best Musical, The Band’s Visit. This show is part of our 2019–20 season, boasting a combined 44 Tony Awards® and various Philadelphia premieres.
At the center of The Band’s Visit is the theme of shared humanity, as individuals from different cultural backgrounds are united in friendship. We believe a vibrant city that embraces culture is an invaluable asset, powering mutual understanding, innovation, and creativity, fostering diversity, and bringing joy to the human spirit. The Kimmel Center Cultural Campus is Philadelphia’s home for Broadway, renowned jazz, family-friendly events, comedy, and eight Resident Companies that feature symphonic, chamber and pop music, ballet, opera, and modern dance. This spring our programming showcases culturally-diverse artists and rich worldly traditions, including: international Celtic sensation Riverdance (January 21–26); Grey Rock, an exciting new theatrical work from Palestine (February 6–9); Ballet Folcòrico Nacional de México de SILVIA LOZANO, focusing on the preservation of Mexican culture (March 12); Egyptologist Kara Cooney with National Geographic Live’s When Women Ruled the World (March 18); and Indian musicians Zakir Hussain, Kala Ramnath and Dr. Jayanthi Kumaresh (April 14).
Education is everything to us, and we are grateful for the opportunity to transform lives daily through the arts as a non-profit and the Philadelphia region’s most impactful performing arts center. We continue our Education Strategic Plan for Growth—with a goal to expand 10-fold, educating, engaging, and inspiring 100,000 students per year by the fifth year of the plan. This program focuses on jazz, musical theater, and technology providing a wide range of hands-on, in-depth experiences.
Don’t forget about our FREE monthly programs, from La NOCHE, Latin dance parties with rotating bands; PNC Grow Up Great, musical theater and jazz instruction for our littlest arts lovers under 5 years old; and Sittin’ In, showcasing rotating jazz & rising artists.
For the most up-to-date news about everything happening on our Cultural Campus, plus presales & announcements of new events, sign up for our weekly e-newsletter and connect with us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter!
Warmly,
