The Mission of the Ontario Homicide Investigators Association is to bring together the men and women charged with this responsibility and to provide a forum, through which they can share
their skill, knowledge and expertise for their professional development and support.
Each year the OHIA Workshop Committee ensures that the content of the weeklong event is topical, relevant and aimed to benefit the advanced homicide investigator. The OHIA Workshop Committee ensures that all of the
content is completely Canadian thereby ensuring that the workshop is not only entertaining but more importantly educational.

2016 AWARD NOMINATIONS
All award nominations and inquiries should be directed to the Chair of the OHIA Awards Committee, Scott MacLean by Email; [email protected]
Submission Deadline: February 26th, 2016
Nominations should include an overview of the investigation and resulting prosecution, an explanation of why the person(s) or service should be considered, a list of names of involved officers, contact
information of the person making the nomination and the supporting Unit Commander.
Nominations for an Award of Merit should include an overview of the person’s career; contributions.
Investigator Awards to be Presented at the 2016 OHIA Conference in Niagara Falls:
Lynda Shaw Memorial Award Presented for vigilance and dedication demonstrated in Historic (cold case) homicide investigations.
Mike Matthews Award
Presented to the homicide investigator who has displayed the courage, tenacity and compassion that are the hallmarks of Mike Matthews’ legacy.
Major Case Management Award
Presented to the individual, team or service that has exhibited outstanding innovation and achievement in case management in a homicide investigation.
Award of Merit
Presented to persons that throughout the Province of Ontario have made a significant contribution to homicide investigations.

On the 8th of November, 2010 three armed males entered a residence in Markham, Ontario.
The occupants were led to the basement area where they were shot several times.
A cellular phone case involving the analysis of over one million lines of calls and texts.
A critical aspect of the case was the interviews of a family member and the uncovering of a life based on lies.
