Term 2 Week 4 - Wednesday May 13 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

Another week passes by and this week we welcomed back our Prep and Year 1 students. Oh how excited we all were!

The balloons decorating the gates and in some classrooms certainly gave it a party feel! The students have settled right

back in and were very happy to see their friends and teachers.

It was very pleasing also to talk to parents who said that using SeeSaw (platform) for learning made it easier for them to

engage with the learning and helped them in managing it. I also sense that parents are relieved to have the children

back at school!

A big thank you to our teachers and families for all the hard work. We definitely can’t wait for us all to be reunited with

Years 2-6 students as well.

COVID-19 Practices

Whilst more students are returning due to parents resuming work or because of the prep and Year 1 returning, the one

thing that is going to continue for a long time are the COVID-19 practices. It is essential that parents drop off and go.

The students are well and truly ready to transition to being dropped off at the gate so that social distancing measures

will help to keep us all safe.

Our Vision……‘CONNECTING AND ENGAGING THROUGH

LEARNING’

Our Belief………..“Our Students are worth whatever it takes”.

DROP THE CHILDREN AT THE GATE

IT IS BEST THAT ONLY CHILDREN ENTER THE SCHOOL GROUNDS.

DO NOT CONGREGATE OUTSIDE CLASSROOMS OR IN THE CARPARK.

Parents during these COVID times:

This is still a recommendation from the Chief Medical Officer. The things that will help us to get back to “normal” a

little quicker is if adults practice social distancing and we all continue to adhere to high standards of hygiene.

FROM THE DEPUTY’S DESK

This week, we have checked on the Third Party Website permissions for Prep and Year 1 students who have returned to school. In, particular we have checked those permissions for the online web based educational sites Typing Tournament and Maths Invaders Online. We have invested $1600 in order to give students in our school access to these two sites for 12 months.

If our records indicate that your child currently does not have permission for these two sites, a new permissions form will be sent home this week via the classroom teacher for parents/carers to read sign and return to the classroom.

We are aiming to have all students registered, as now that they are progressively getting back to school they have the opportunity to go to the computer labs on a regular basis with their class and teacher. For example with Typing Tournament, this service teaches students of all ages about the computer keyboard and the skill of ten finger touch-typing. Students can apply these skills to other devices when using them. Maths Invaders Online aims to build the recall of times tables and maths facts fluency.

We will continue to check for permissions and send new forms home with year levels as the term continues. Keep an eye out for new forms for Year 2-6 students once they are allowed to return to school based on future announcements from the Queensland government.

School Photos – Thursday 04 and Friday 05 June (Week 7)

We have started to work with MSP Photography (Richard Fraley) to arrange the logistics for the upcoming school photos in Week 7. As we do this, we are mindful of the upcoming government announcements with regards to students returning to school.

MSP Photography are following a range of protocols in relation to the current context and as a result, there will be no class group photos. Instead, the class group photos will include individual portraits of each student and teacher/s in the class. The venue has changed to the resource centre meeting room with some new on the day protocols put in place.

Today, paper-based information about photos is being distributed to all Prep and Year 1 classes, so that students can take the information home and pass on to parents/carers. Classroom teachers will also be receiving information.

The information is about everything that you will need to know, including how to order online and when to return the envelope to school.

For sibling photos, the sibling photo envelope can be requested by parents/carers from the school office.

In the coming weeks we will release the timetable for classes as to when their school photos will be taken on the Thursday or Friday.

We are currently also working on how we are going to forward envelopes to parents/carers of students in Years 2-6 in an organised and successful way. Keep an eye out for this information.

Have a great week!
