Section 2: Design Decisions

Nature of Decisions taken:

The design decisions involved in the creation of this OER were of broadly three types:

1. Content Decisions 2. Pedagogic Decisions 3. Technology Decisions

CONTENT DECISIONS:

We have selected “Computer programming through C” as our topic. This concept is very useful for

all engineering Students.

Our target students are B.tech I semester. We have covered the following topics:

• Introduction to Programming

• Writing sample programs in c

• Concept of Functions

• Recursion Concept

Above mentioned topics cover all the basic concepts and applications of C Programming.

For activity-based learning, we have provided the quiz and assignments for all the above

mentioned topics.

PEDAGOGIC DECISIONS:

We have created videos and PowerPoint presentations for course content. For concept clarity and

for checking the level of understanding of students, we have designed assignments and quiz for

each topic. Activity based learning facilitate the concept clarity. All the videos can be used for out-

class-activity. For our college students we have given the link of WordPress blog on

https://ushagblog.wordpress.com/.

TECHNOLOGY DECISIONS:

1. Tool to be used for creating screencast, as it had a time limit of (0-10) minutes and

provided option for creating videos as .mp4 files that can be directly played from browser.

2. MS PowerPoint for creating presentations of course content.

3. MS Word for documentation purpose

4. www.youtube.com for uploading videos

5. Assignments are created to help students for self-learning.

Section 3: OER Description

Active OER:

For checking the active OER, you may access https://ushagblog.wordpress.com.

From this website user can access all the content related to OER about Computer Programming.

This website contains various pages like About me, Blog, FDP101X and About FDP. In the

About FDP page there are separate pages like Introduction to OER and OER Journal related to

Computer Programming through C. We have taken Moodle as Content Management System

(CMS).

General Settings in WordPress:

These screenshots shows the general settings of WordPress.

Screen Shot 1: This is the first screen to create a site in WordPress. After selecting the domain.

The user has to register him/her with WordPress and create a login.

Screen Shot 2: After logged in the user has to select the theme of the web site. After selecting

the theme user can customize his/her website.

How to use this OER:

For using this OER, please ensure that you have Word press Link :

https://ushagblog.wordpress.com and go to OER Journal to get user credentials of Moodle

site.

Best Practices with Lesson Activity:

Here are some of the best practices from our experience on using this Lesson Activity in

classroom:

1. Provide this activity at least 1 week in advance. 2. Provide minor incentive (marks) for completion of the activity. 3. Ensure that there is a tangible output at the end of out-of-class activity to ensure

learners are interested 4. It would be good if the screencasts and resources were separately available in a

“Resources” folder in the MOODLE course itself. This will take care of common

cribs related to “website not available”, “resources not accessible” etc.

Section 4: Evaluating Effectiveness of OER

How this OER is effective? :

To make OER effective we have included Videos, Assignments and Quizzes in Moodle

Course. Duration of almost all the videos is less than 10 minutes to make them easily

understandable. Quizzes are helpful for determining the level of concept clarity.

OER is developed in WordPress and our website is very user friendly.

Effectiveness of OER can be checked at two levels:

Student Level

Consumer Level

At the Student Level:

On the basis of assignment submission based on OER and feedback of OER, we can check the

effectiveness of OER.

Following are the methods which can be used for checking the effectiveness of OER:

• In case of website by tracking the number of viewers and feedback about website can

be checked the effectiveness of OER created.

• In case of videos, by tracking the total number of views we can check the effectiveness

of OER.

• In case of quiz, by tracking the total number of downloads we can check the

effectiveness of OER.

• We can ask the student to submit their assignment within the given time limit and can

check the uses and effectiveness with their marks they got on the basis of quiz.

At the Consumer Level:

As a consumer of this OER we teachers want that our student learn and understand the

concept.

We can evaluate our OER on three main constructs.

Page 14: Open Education Resource: Flipping the Class Room with Moodle · OER Page 3 RC1348_Team546 G.Usha Rani A.S.Lalitha B.Pranalini Open Education Resource: Flipping the Class Room with

OER Page 14

Following are the methods which can be used for checking the effectiveness of OER:

Also we can ask for the e-mail id of the users, get details of user and then send the

questionnaire to them for feedback on the basis of course coverage, complexity.

To make our OER more effective we can visit other similar OER

available on Internet.

Section 6: Building a Community of MOODLE

and Flipped Classroom Adopters

Possible Sources for Community Building Some of the viable sources for building a community

are:

1. Teachers of the same Domain/ Area.

2. Teachers who are using MOODLE

3. Teachers who plan to use Flipped Classroom Strategies

Plans for Community Building:

The resource is already available in the webpage and its access requires the users to provide their

email id. Thus there will be a list of interested users whom we can follow up using email. All the

interested users can then be connected using a local Wordpress or Moodle Website.

WordPress is an online, open source website creation tool written in PHP. It is probably the

easiest and most powerful blogging and website Content Management System (CMS) in

existence today. WordPress is an Open Source, which means there are hundreds of people all

over the world working on it. In WordPress we can simply create a community of the same

domain. In community we can share the latest researches, book reviews and create a blog on any

topic related to same domain.
