School of Fashion Design alumnus Sandy Wood-Prince Collins, Class of 1979, has generouslydonated the garment collection from the estate of her grandmother, Eleanor Edwards Wood-Prince, to inspire, delight, and inform the entire SFD community. Eleanor and her husbandWilliam were art collectors and philanthropists, traveled extensively, and were friends with Frenchartist Marc Chagall. The couple was responsible for persuading Chagall to produce a work forChicago. Chagall's "The Four Seasons" mosaic is now one of the city's most admired works of art. "Grandmere loved fashion, both French style and American ease," says Sandy. "She was athletic, travelled the world, and was deeply involved in the arts, charity, and politics. She inspired in mea love of art and fashion, which led me to the program at SFD in the late 1970s. I have greatmemories from that time, and have benefitted from my SFD student experience in countless

April 28, 5:30-7:00pm"Ornamental"fine art paintings by Class of 1983 alum and fine artist Catherine Carter.

"Lines hold for me many deeply rooted personal associations. I enjoyed exploring the naturalworld as a child, so my lines echo the intricacy of branches, spider webs, roots, and vines. Istudied dance in my teens, so my lines trace the pathways of the human form whirling throughopen space. My working career began in the fashion industry, so my lines mimic the twisting andlooping fibers of fabric weaves. I am a writer as well as an artist, so my lines transcribe thepatterns of hand-written calligraphy and printed text. The lines in my paintings combine all ofthese influences, experiences, and interests to describe a sense of joyful motion and cyclicalenergy. They tell a story - not a clear-cut narrative, but the suggestion of ever-unfolding changethrough alternating tension and release. They celebrate the rhythms of life."

Catherine has exhibited her paintings in solo shows at the Genovese/Sullivan Gallery and theDanforth Art Museum, as well as in three-person shows at Framingham State University, PineManor College, and Bristol Community College. Her work has been on view at the United States
