Skyward Terminology Glossary PaC

Point and Click software that is written by and licensed to Skyward, Inc. The PaC Client is also

named the Full Client or GUI (Graphical User Interface) Client.

Install Folder

The ?:\skyward\install directory that is created by the Skyward Software Distribution Install.exe. It

contains folders and files for OpenEdge 11.7, Sun Java, Microsoft .NET, and other files needed for

the Skyward PaC Client install.

Skyward DLC Directory

This is the location where Progress OpenEdge (OE) 11.7 executable files are installed. The folder is

created in the ?:\skyward\ folder.

Skyward Programs

The programs Skyward developers write to make the Skyward products functional. Skyward

programs are delivered as Releases, Addendum(s), and RMA(s) and are accessed by the PaC clients

using a mapped drive or UNC path.

One Set of Skyward Programs

Skyward software needs to have a folder structure that contains compiled-programs that ‘run’ the

PaC or Web products. All Skyward servers may have a single copy of the programs. Example

?:\skyward for Student/Combined or ?:\skyward\skyfin for Business.

Two sets of Skyward Programs

If you are running two sets of programs, all Skyward servers will have a folder structure of

?:\skyward and ?:\skyward\skyfin. Two sets of Skyward programs allow the student/combined and

business systems to be updated separately via Monolith system.

Program Server

The Program server is a separate server used as the source for the set of SMS programs for the

Finance PaC Client users. A drive letter or UNC path is assigned to a ?:\Skyward folder on the

Program File Share server. This network path is where PaC Clients ‘read’ the Skyward programs

from. The programs can reside on a Windows or Novell server and are updated by the Monolith

system. Skyward does not recommend using a database\web\report server to share the Skyward

programs. Skyward recommends that the mapping to the folder share is to ?:\skyward and not to

?:\skyward\skyfin as the installers and shortcut icons are written by default to \skyward and

\skyward\skyfin folder structures. This implies that the Share is to the \skyward folder and then the

path of \skyward\skyfin is allowed.

Workstation Minimum Requirements

Supported Operating Systems for the PaC (Point and Click) Client

• Windows 7.x / 8.x / 10

Non-Supported Operating Systems for the PaC Client

• Windows Vista

• Windows 98

Continue to use Non-supported workstations if you:

• Run the PaC Client through Citrix, ProPalms or Terminal server(s); (Includes ASP customers)

Minimum Memory Requirements

• 256 MB above the Windows requirements on PaC Workstation(s)

Disk Space Availability

• 500MB free space on each workstation’s system drive – (Typically C:\)

Additional needs on client • All workstations need to support a minimum of 800 X 600 resolution

• The 11.7 PaC Client requires User Access Control (UAC) to be disabled on Windows 7 and newer

workstations during installation.

• The PaC Client supports 32 bit and 64 bit operating systems.

• Skyward recommends using a PostScript printer with Adobe Acrobat Reader loaded on the client

• For W2, 1099M/R and 1095 forms, .NET Framework 4.0 and higher is needed on the client

• Compatible with Microsoft Office 2013 and newer

PaC Client File and Registry Permission Requirements

Notes:

• The PaC Client Installation .exe or .msi should not be used on Skyward Database/Web/Report

Queue/ExComm/OEM servers. The PaC Client has already been installed on these servers when

the 11.7 – SMS 2.0 – Base Install was run.

• A “?” is used to reference the mapped/UNC network drive/path to the Skyward Program Server.

Substitute the mapped drive letter or UNC path in place of the “?”

• Registry Entries added when the PaC Client is installed.

o The OCX registration process runs when you install PaC It will no longer run when you

launch the PaC Client.

o On 32-bit OS PaC client workstations, the Windows registry key is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ PSC\Progress.

o On 64-bit OS PaC client workstations, the Windows registry key is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\PSC\Progress.

• Local Folder permissions required for non-Administrator accounts.

o If PaC client users are not local administrators they require Read and Execute permissions to

?:\skyward and subfolders and Read, List, Execute, Write, and Modify file system

permissions to the working folder of ?:\skyward\wrk.

• Program server Skyward drive NTFS permissions

o PaC client users need Read permission to the Skyward Program Server Skyward Drive; ex.?:

\skyward and Read / Write /.Modify permissions to the eSign folder, if used.

• Antivirus

o Current Antivirus should be installed on every Skyward workstation.

o Real-time protection exclusions should be set for ?\skyward\wrk\*

The Install Folder Contents

Download the 11.7 Install folder files

Note: You want to make sure the \skyward\install folder is current on the Program server.

1. Navigate to the \skyward\install folder on the Program Server or mapped drive location and verify

that an OE11 folder exists.

• If no OE11 folder exists, continue with next step.

• If an OE11 folder exists, skip to the PaC Client Install section.

2. Connect to our Secure FTP Site using the instructions found here: Secure FTP Instructions

3. Navigate to the Secure FTP folder of Hardware → Public → OE117-Customer-DVD → Windows

4. Download the five (5) software distribution files. These five (5) files create the contents of the Install

folder.

5. Save the downloaded files to ?:\skyward\install user-created folder on the Skyward drive on the

Program/mapped drive server.

Skyward Software Distribution Install

1. Navigate to the ‘Skyward OE 11.7 Software Distribution’ files ex. ?:\skyward\install→ Double

click 11.7 – SMS 2.0 - Software Distribution.exe file.

2. The Welcome screen to Skyward OpenEdge Software Deployment will display → Choose Next

3. The Installation folder screen will display → Change to the Drive and folder path where the Install

folder should be created. → Choose Next.

Note: The path can be where the existing Install folder is located, ex. ?:\skyward.

4. The Ready to Install window will display → Choose Next.

5. The Installing…. window will display.

6. The Installation Finished window will display when the extraction process is complete → Choose

Finish.

7. A 11.7 – SMS 2.0 – Software Distribution.log is created in the ?:\skyward\install folder with the

results of the installation.

Pac Client Install

The PaC Client can be installed with either the .exe or the .msi install files. You do not have to run both files

on a workstation.

The .exe file is a shell installer where you follow screens to gather information for the installer. A mapped

drive/unc path needs to be connected to the Program server’s \install folder while the installer is run as that is

where it gets the setup.exe and software to run.

The .msi file is an installer that included the 11.7 Client setup.exe and software to install. The installer does

not need the mapped drive/unc path to be connected when running. The .msi file installs by default to C

drive on the workstation and edits the registry to have mapped drive S to the Program server. The mapping

to S drive should be set to the root of the Skyward folder, ?:\skyward.

If you choose to run the .msi install file but you do not use S as the mapped drive you can edit a .reg file to

updated the registry to another drive letter.

You choose what section to follow below:

3. Download the 11.7 – SMS 2.0 – PaC Workstation Install.exe. The file may already be downloaded

on the Program server and located in the ?:\skyward\install folder.

c. Crystal Registry Fix

d. Print Engine Fonts

e. nn-bit client registry entries.

f. Standard startup.pf file

g. .NET 4.0, if not installed

• Workstations require a mapped drive/unc path to a Program server that has access to the

?:\skyward\install folder.

Skyward Workstation Installer Process

1. Run ?:\install\11.7 – SMS 2.0 - PaC Workstation Install.exe

2. The Important Information window displays. → OK.

3. At the Information Screen, click Next

4. The Installation Drive window will display. → Select the local drive to install on → Next.

5. The Enter Data window displays. Enter the path to the set of Skyward Programs → Enter the

Network location of the Install folder → Next.

6. The Ready to Install window displays. Verify the settings. → Next.

7. The installation will begin.

8. The Print Engine Fonts will be installed during this process. If they cannot be installed, an error

message will display. → OK. → If failed to install, follow Install Print Engine Fonts section of this guide.

9. The Installation Successful window will display. → Choose View Log File if you would like to

review the installation steps. → Finish → Reboot workstation.

Test PaC Client

1. Double click on the icon(s) to test Skyward PaC Client → The Skyward Logon will then display.

PaC Client Install Using 11.7 – SMS 2.0 - PaC Workstation Install.msi

Notes:

• The 11.7 – SMS 2.0 - PaC Workstation Install.msi is a Full Pac Client Installer in a Microsoft

Installer package. The installation includes:

a. Progress OpenEdge 11.7.2 32-bit Client software

b. Progress OpenEdge 11.7 32-bit ODBC driver

c. Crystal Registry Fix

d. Print Engine Fonts

e. nn-bit client registry entries.

f. Standard startup.pf file

g. .NET 4.0, if not installed

• Workstations do NOT require a mapped drive to a Program server that has access to the

?:\skyward\install folder during the installation of the PaC Client.

• The default drive letters used in the msi installer is C for where the PaC Client software will be

installed and S for the mapped drive of the location of the Skyward programs.

• The S mapped drive will need to be connected when the PaC Client icon is run.

• The msi installer may be used as a push-type installation of the PaC Client to workstations.

Files used during the MSI Install

11.7 – SMS 2.0 – PaC Workstation Install.msi

Microsoft Installer file that executes the automated PaC Client Installation via a push-type install; install

default drive letter is C Drive with mapped drive as S.

Registry to Change ProPath – 32 Bit client.reg

Registry file that needs to be merged to each 32-bit workstation’s registry when the .msi file is used as the

workstation installer.

Registry File to Change Propath

When the 11.7 – SMS 2.0 - PaC Workstation Install.msi is run the default drives is C for where to install

the 11.7.2 PaC Client software and S for the mapped drive letter to the Program server for the Skyward set of

programs. So this means that the registry entry for the Program server will be s:\ for the ?:\skyward folder

and s:\skyfin for ?:\skyward\skyfin folder. If the letter S is not the letter that is the mapped drive letter, then

the registry will need to be changed for the PaC Client to run successfully on the workstation.

Registry Entries added when the PaC Client is installed

1. Navigate to the \skyward\install\registry folder on the Program Server.

2. Locate either the Registry to Change ProPath -32 Bit client.reg file if the OS installed on the

workstation is Windows 32-bit OR the Registry to Chane ProPath – 64 Bit client.reg if the OS installed

on the workstation is Windows 64-bit.

3. Edit the contents of either of the .reg files by choosing which one according to the Operating System

bit level that is installed on the workstation; 32-bit vs 64-bit. → Save.

Skyward recommends that the mapping to the folder share is to ?:\skyward and not to ?:\skyward\skyfin as

the installers and shortcut icons are written by default to \skyward and \skyward\skyfin folder structures.

This implies that the Share is to the \skyward folder and then the path of \skyward\skyfin is allowed.

The S:\\ and S:\\skyfin entries in the file needs to be updated to the mapped drive letter that will be used for

the Program server set of programs. Ex. L as shown below.

4. Double click on the .reg file just edited.

5. Choose Yes to continue.

6. Choose OK. The registry on the workstation has bee updated.

Add PaC Finance Shortcut to workstation desktop

1. The PaC Client shortcut can be placed on the desktop of the workstation.

2. The shortcut can be found in the ?:\skyward\Install folder on the Mapped drive Program server.

3. Copy the Skyward PaC Finance shortcut icon to the desktop of the workstation.

4. Right click Properties on the shortcut.

5. Review the Target field. The mapped drive should be edited to the path of the skyfin.pf parameter

file. If the drive is not S, you need to update it to the mapped drive letter used. → OK.

Test PaC Client

1. Double click on the icon(s) to test Skyward PaC Client → The Skyward Logon will then display.

Additional Information / Troubleshooting

PaC Client Workstation Install message

Issue: When running the 11.7 – SMS 2.0 – PaC Workstation Install.exe this message displays,

Open Edge 11.7 install fails with Install Shield Error Code: -5011: 0X80040702.

Resolution: Run Windows Updates and reboot the workstation.

Install Print Engine Fonts

Note:

• Print Engine Fonts needs to be installed on every PaC workstation.

• Print Engine Fonts will get installed when the PaC Workstation Install .exe is run if the SMS 2.0 set

of programs can be found.

• Print Engine Fonts installation process is not included in the PaC Workstation Install .msi file.

1. On the workstation, from the mapped drive to the Skyward set of programs,

run ?:\skyward\dbdsend\clientsetup.exe

2. The “Welcome….’ will display. → Next.

3. Leave the Install folder → Change radio button to Everyone → Next.

4. Confirm Installation → Next..

To find .NET Framework versions by viewing the registry (.NET

Framework 1-4)

1. On the Start menu, choose Run.

2. In the Open box, enter regedit.exe → You must have administrative credentials to run regedit.exe.

3. In the Registry Editor, open the following subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP

The installed versions are listed under the NDP subkey. The version number is stored in the Version entry.

For the .NET Framework 4 the Version entry is under the Client or Full subkey (under NDP), or under both

subkeys.

.Net 4.0 Installer Process

1. Run ?:\skyward\ocx\dotnetframework4.0.exe

2. The files included in the installer will extract in a temporary location and ‘decide’ if it needs to be

installed.

3. The install process with either install or not install as shown.

Automating the 11.7 PaC Client Installation using the Microsoft Installer

package.

Note: The PaC Client Installer should NOT be run on ANY Skyward Database/Web/Report

Queue/ExComm/OEM servers. The PaC Client has been installed on these servers when the 11.7 – SMS 2.0

– Base Install was run.

1. Add the Microsoft Installation Package to Active Directory or any 3rd party applications that

support installing application’s MSI files whether MS PowerShell Scripts or Login Scripts.
