+National Academy Foundation

NAF provides a systemic foundation for developing a successful academy model. The NAF model includes standards in each of the four elements which are implemented in each academy.

+Curriculum & Instruction

n  The academy program of study includes NAF courses with themes from these courses integrated into core academic course content.

n  Multidisciplinary projects are the primary vehicle by which NAF course themes are integrated into core subject area content, providing a relevant context for student learning.

n  The academy team, advisory board, and school counselors ensure that sufficient academic supports (tutoring, mentoring, Saturday classes, skill workshops, etc.) exist to help students succeed in academy and core courses.

+Work Based Learning n A four-year series of coordinated and sequenced

work-based learning experiences such as job shadowing, field trips, and career fairs, gives students learning opportunities that build and ultimately prepare them for internships.

n Academy work-based learning experiences reinforce curricula and emphasize the 21st century skills needed for success in college and the workforce, including creativity, problem solving, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking.

+AP Capstone Program n  AP Capstone is an innovative diploma program that

provides students with an opportunity to engage in rigorous scholarly practice of the core academic skills necessary for successful college completion.

+Extra Curricular Activities

Students at RCHS will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of extra curricular activities both on-site and off-

site. Dance, music, and exercise programs as well as a variety of clubs will be offered. Students will be also able to participate in athletics through a multi-school agreement

with Rio Mesa High School and Adolfo Camarillo High School, whichever is their neighborhood school.

+Culture n RCHS will enlist the

support of stakeholders (students, parents, staff, and community members) committed to the development of school culture.

Culture: An underground flow of feelings within schools in the form of

vision and values, beliefs and assumptions, rituals and ceremonies, history and stories, and physical symbols. (Deal & Peterson, 1999)

+Application Process ü Applications will be available at your students’ school

site, at the OUHSD District Office, or online at ouhsd.k12.ca.us starting November 1, 2014.

ü Applications are due December 1, 2014 at 4:00PM and can be submitted digitally or in person at OUHSD Office.

ü If necessary, a computer random selection process will be used to select the 200 9th students. All remaining students will have an equal chance of being selected for the next open seat.

ü In January, selected students and parents will be encouraged to attend an orientation meeting.
