HIGH SCHOOL MASTER SCHEDULE
FLEX MODEL-BLENDED LEARNING
The Flex model lets students move on fluid schedules among learning activities according to their needs. Online learning is the backbone of student learning in a Flex model. Teachers provide support and instruction on a flexible, as-needed basis while students work through course curriculum and content. This model can give students a high degree of control over their learning with opportunities for in-person instruction.
FLEX MODEL-BLENDED LEARNING
• Lessons created by PLCs• Use weekly agendas outlining
daily expectations and learning tasks for 4 days of online work
• Implement the learn, practice, and assess model
• Includes a check for understanding each day
• Provides a variety of learning opportunities with feedback
• Provides additional student support daily
• Utilize lessons created by PLCs• Provide opportunities for
students to engage with each other and the teacher
• Address questions from online learning
• Remediate or reteach concepts• Identify key learning targets to
discuss, practice and apply• Provide instruction on difficult
concepts• Engage in hands-on learning
In the Flex Model, teachers will work with PLCs to:• Develop a common syllabus which includes essential
learning standards and skills, grading scales, how students will be assessed, a timeline of major projects/assignments, student academic and behavior expectations, intervention strategies, digital tools used and a teacher-family communication plan
• Develop learning modules for each week centered on the scope and sequence. Online activities should take no more than 30 minutes of online work for each class each day
• Determine the modality in which to deliver instruction: short video, Schoology assignments, links to online text resources
FLEX MODEL-BLENDED LEARNING

• Social distancing with this number of students
• Entering and exiting school safely
• Transportation
• Social distancing in classroom setting
• Social distancing during transition periods
• Student Meals
• Club and Extracurricular Activities
• Athletics
• Performing Arts
• Intervention / Enrichment opportunities for students
FLEX Model Preventative Measures

- students at typical security entry points of the school

- Earned lunch opportunities outside of the classroom will be considered with social distancing guidelines in place
• Transportation – The cohort model allows for better and smart routing plans and the safe management of students –transportation will continue their planning
FLEX ModelGiven the constraints of this pandemic:• It connects the student with teachers in a safe environment to
begin the school year
• It gets students to school for a sense of “normalcy” until pandemic conditions improve
• Keeps student schedule/classes uninterrupted – with the flexibility to gradually or completely open high school programming OR it allows us to retract and close high school programming should conditions worsen with better instructional connections and planning in place for students
• Allows for deep planning by teachers to identify essential learning and stay aligned with the district’s scope and sequence
• Social-emotional support
• Accommodates the need for intervention & enrichment
TUHSD CONTINGENCY PLAN• Prepared for partial closure of instructional programming with
implementation of FLEX Model Online Learning-Exclusive
• Prepared for full closure of instructional programming with implementation of FLEX Model Online Learning-Exclusive
• Tempe Union Online students proceed with no interruptions to their learning
• Classroom teachers will have instructional cycle development plans that are designed with attention to alignment of TUHSD Scope and Sequence
• Partial or full closure of school decisions will be made in consultation with the Arizona Department of Health Services, Arizona Department of Education, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Emergency Management Team and the Executive Team
