7

SAFETY

HANDLE CHEMICAL PRODUCTS SAFELY

Direct exposure to hazardous chemicals can causeserious injury. Potentially hazardous chemicals usedwith Frontier equipment include such items aslubricants, coolants, paints, and adhesives.

A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) provides specificdetails on chemical products: physical and healthhazards, safety procedures, and emergency responsetechniques.

Check the MSDS before you start any job using ahazardous chemical. That way you will know exactlywhat the risks are and how to do the job safely. Thenfollow procedures and recommended equipment.

(See your Frontier dealer for MSDS’s on chemicalproducts used with Frontier equipment.)

USE SAFETY LIGHTS AND DEVICES

Prevent collisions between other road users, slowmoving tractors with attachments or towed equipment, and self-propelled machines on public roads.Frequently check for traffic from the rear, especially inturns, and use hand signals or turn signal lights.

Use headlights, flashing warning lights, and turn signalsday and night. Follow local regulations for equipmentlighting and marking. Keep lighting and marking visibleand in good working order. Replace or repair lightingand marking that has been damaged or lost.

SAFETY

USE A SAFETY CHAIN

A safety chain will help control drawn equipment shouldit accidentally separate from the drawbar.

Using the appropriate adapter parts, attach the chain tothe tractor drawbar support or other specified anchorlocation. Provide only enough slack in the chain topermit turning.

See your Frontier dealer for a chain with a strengthrating equal to or greater than the gross weight of thetowed machine. Do not use safety chain for towing.

TOW LOADS SAFELY

Stopping distance increases with speed and weight oftowed loads, and on slopes. Towed loads with orwithout brakes that are too heavy for the tractor or aretowed too fast can cause loss of control. Consider thetotal weight of the equipment and its load.

Observe these recommended maximum road speeds,or local speed limits which may be lower:

• If towed equipment does not have brakes, do nottravel more than 32 km/h (20 mph) and do not towloads more than 1.5 times the tractor weight.

• If towed equipment has brakes, do not travel morethan 40 km/h (25 mph) and do not tow loads morethan 4.5 times the tractor weight.

Ensure the load does not exceed the recommendedweight ratio. Add ballast to recommended maximum fortractor, lighten the load, or get a heavier towing unit. The tractor must be heavy and powerful enough withadequate braking power for the towed load. Useadditional caution when towing loads under adversesurface conditions, when turning, and on inclines.

ADJUSTMENTS

Before making any adjustments, remember to:1) Detach and disengage the tractor PTO;2) Wait until all moving parts have come to a

complete stop;3) Apply the parking brake.4) Turn off the tractor engine.Only in these conditions will it be possible to worksafety on the machine.Always remember to comply with these safetyprocedures to avoid and prevent accidents.

All hay tedders are made to spread and areatehay, straw and other forage crops so that theycan quickly dry in a uniform way and, using aspecial accessory, to ventilate windrows andturn them. The PTO must spin at a constant speed thatmust never exceed 540 rpm. A rate between400 and 450 rpm generally gives the bestresults. The operating speed is determined by acombination of different factors, such as: thetype of forage crop, its density, the humidity itcontains, the ground conditions and the windspeed when the work is being carried out.To adequately pick up and spread windrows, itmay be necessary to operate tedder withwindrows straight into tine wheels instead ofbetween tine wheels.

Only in these conditions will it be possible towork safety on the machine. Always rememberto comply with these safety procedures to avoidand prevent accidents.

SPRING TILT

The springs are mounted on the links with astandard tilt prior to delivery. The extent to which the springs tilt can, however, be regulated to suit the type of crop.Proceed in the following way:

A) Tilt the springs in this direction to openout the crop to a greater extent (A).

B) Tilt the springs in this direction to closethe crop together to a greater extent (B).

After the springs have been set in the bestposition, remember to fully tighten the screwthat locks the tine.

SPRING LINK TILT

The operating position is obtained when thetines barely touch the soil near the tractor. Toactive this, use the adjuster screw (C).
