Wow! What an incredibly busy Term 3 we have had! From spelling bees to zone athletics carnivals, excursions to hockey games, grandparents’ days to cake stalls, we have packed it in, in Term 3! We have had new garden beds installed, a brand new sound system in our hall, transition visits with the high school, cricket and soccer gala days, joined in with the Australia Reading Hour, had a brain cancer fundraising day, participated in regional maths competitions, amongst many other things. Our staff have also been busy, launching a new 3-6 spelling initiative, Spell-it, into classrooms. We have also continued to work on our Seven Steps to Writing Success program collaboratively, had a significant review of our scope and sequence documents for English, Mathematics and Science & Technology, and Mrs Wakefield has been part of External Validation teams, formally assessing other schools. The highlight of the term would have to be the news that we received the My Community Project grant of $100 000 for new playground equipment in the infants, with planning very much underway to have that completed in the first half of 2020. It has certainly been a busy term. With the calendar filling up quickly in Term 4, it looks likely that we will be set for an end of the year that will be just as hectic, but just as equally fantastic. In the meantime, enjoy a wonderful two week break and recharge the batteries before the final term of the year. A reminder that Term 4 resumes on Monday 14 October for both students and staff. Tri challenge news Our participating Year 6 students head off on Friday to take on the gruelling Gloucester High School Tri Challenge. With the largest team we have ever taken, this should be an amazing opportunity for these students. Some final details will come home over the next day or so. Best of luck, everyone!

Intensive Swimming – Term 4 We are currently confirming arrangements for the Intensive Swimming program for Year 2 students for next term. This program will also be offered to selected students from Years 3-6, should places be available. At this stage, the program will be run in Weeks 6 and 7. Last year, the cost of the program was $70, however, we are still awaiting final confirmation of the cost and available swimming instructors.

Mr Rod Maggs, Assistant Principal

Year 6 Farewell Meeting for Year 5 Parents/Carers

While we did have a few people send in apologies last time, we had only a few parents come for the Year 6 Farewell Committee Meeting in Week 7. Please, we need more help! Remember, many hands make light work and we can’t run such special events without the support of our school families and community. After all, it will be your child’s special night next year that someone else will be organising for them! Our next meeting is TODAY at 3.05pm in Mrs Bosworth’s room, closest to the hall. We’d love to see you there!

Schools Spectacular

Information The music has arrived and most students

have already brought in their USBs which I have copied the teaching tracks on to. The USBs along with the sheet have been returned to your children. If you are yet to send in a USB please do so ASAP. Please LOOK AFTER this music because students will need to bring it to every school rehearsal next term, beginning with our very first Monday back at school. This rehearsal will take place in the library at 3:15 - 4:00 on Monday and each of the following Mondays at the same time leading up to Schools Spec. A permission note related to our Monday rehearsal will go home this Wednesday. Please return this note before the holidays to ensure everyone is ready to begin rehearsals on our first Monday (week 1) back at School. We will also have another rehearsal Thursday lunch times in the KM classroom. Over the holidays… Please copy the music onto an iPod or device and listen to the music. There will be an order to learning the songs next term but for now please just LISTEN, LISTEN, LISTEN! Don’t forget that next term, there will be regular updates for Schools Spec families in the newsletter. Please get into the habit of checking as this will be a main communication outlet leading up to show week. Have a wonderful holiday and happy singing! Susie McLeod, GPS Schools Spec Coordinator School Spectacular Tickets We have 3 School Spec tickets for sale (1 Adult, 2 Concession) for Saturday 23rd November 1.00pm. If you are interested, please come to the school office.

Project KIN in Stage 2 - Berrill Ley, Assistant Principal (Stage 2)

Students from 3/4L, 3/4J and 3/4G have been involved in making dolls and doll clothes for Project KIN over the past few weeks. Project KIN is an Australian charity that is working to break the cycle of disadvantage for Australian children living in poverty, having been in operation since 2017. There is a page on Facebook (in case you are interested in looking or helping) The mission statement of Project KIN is: to educate, empower and equip underprivileged communities through gifting Play and Learn packs. Each pack contains unique, handmade and high quality resources to help educate, empower and equip children and their parents/carers, ultimately promoting healthy bonds in the home. It has been a privilege to share this opportunity with your children, seeing how quickly they responded to the idea of selflessly helping others; when as they said, ‘we are having all the fun’. The students trace a doll pattern onto fabric and cut the pieces out which are then stitched together by adults, who also add the eyes and the mouth with embroidery thread. The students then stuff the legs, arms and body with fibre fill and choose the style of hair and the pattern for the clothes they want the doll to have. Several students have chosen wool for the hair and they have been very industrious measuring, cutting and sticking the wool lengths to tape in preparation for sewing onto the dolls. Other students are super excited about tracing clothing patterns and cutting them out for sewing. They just can’t wait for the clothes to be sewn together so they can dress the dolls. Many thanks to the parents and grandparents who have become involved in various stages of the making and a special thanks to Sandra, nan of Brodie, for all the clothes and quilts that keep appearing in our room. They are so beautiful and very cute. The students get super excited when they ‘win’ a quilt for their doll in our raffle draw. If anyone would like to help with sewing, it would be greatly appreciated. We pledged 28 dolls and are already past our target with the students aiming at 50 dolls by Christmas. They design and cut quicker than I can sew.

KB and 3/4G Peer Reading Sometimes the perfect opportunity arises for a spot of peer reading, which is what happened with KB and 3/4G in the library on Wednesday morning. 3/4G students were assigned a student in KB to read to and it was so lovely to see them take this task on so responsibly. I had some students comment on how much fun they’d had and the kindergarten students loved being with their older peers. Here are some photos of our lovely morning. Kim Macdonald, Teacher Librarian

Stage 1 Excursion

Excitement was in the air as Year 1 and Year 2 students boarded the bus on Friday for the Australian Reptile Park.

Dean Griffin held a blue tongue lizard, Isabella Fisher wrestled a python and Mrs Schafer fell in love with a reticulated python. Our students answered many questions about the Tasmanian Devil and Ranger Jake was very impressed. Paul Carpenter, Excursion Organiser.
