Koreans in Europe

A. The first Korean in Europe was Antonio Corea (1578-1626), who came to Italian city Albi in 1606. (There is still a Korean family in Italy whose ancestor Antonio Corea is.)

B. Korean children started to be adopted into Europe in 1950’s and in 2001 there were altogether 45,881 adopted Koreans in Europe with a) 10,923 in France, 8,622 in Sweden, 8,417 in Denmark,

5,806 in Norway, 4,056 in the Netherlands, 3,698 in Belgium, 2,351 in Germany etc.

C. In 2001 there were altogether 68,597 immigrant and sojourneur Koreans in Europe witha) 30,492 are found in Germany, 10,836 in England,

10,485 in France, etc. (Only 116 in Finland).

Once in Oulu…

A. Your student tutor, kummi, will meet you when you arrive and bring you to your flata) Your kummi will also inform you about how to get

started: bring you to the department, go with you to the bank to open a bank account etc.

B. Orientation week takes place right in the beginning of the semester.

C. Finnish (and other) language courses start. The language center also offers for example tandem language courses, Cafe Lingua and Language Games.
