Sometimes referred to as All Fools' Day, April 1 is not a national holiday, but is widely rec-ognized and celebrated as a day when many people play all kinds of jokes and foolishness. The day is marked by the commission of good-humored or otherwise funny jokes, hoaxes, and other practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends, family members, teachers, neighbors, work associates, etc.

Traditionally, in some countries such as Canada, New Zealand, the UK, Australia, Cyprus, and South Africa, the jokes only last until noon, and someone who plays a trick after noon is called an "April Fool" and taunted "April Fool's Day's past and gone, You're the fool for making one."[1] Elsewhere, such as in France, Italy, South Korea, Japan, Russia, The Nether-lands, Germany, Brazil, Ireland, and the U.S., the jokes last all day. In France and Italy chil-dren (and adults, when appropriate) traditionally tack paper fish on each other's back as a trick and shout "april fish!" in their local language ("poisson d'avril!" and "pesce d'aprile!" in French and Italian respectively).

    Sheep and Goat Weigh-In FoodSafetyQualityAssurance

Following the online auction at the 2012 4-H Foundation Gala,

William G. was notified his chenille scarf he had donated

received a high bid of $55. William then chose his 4-H club

to be the lucky recipient of half of the proceeds. Thank you

to William for helping the 4-H foundation!

    ATTENTION all wether goats and

    market sheep exhibitors:

Weigh-In is set for Saturday, April 14 at

    the Fremont County Fairgrounds from

    8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

In today's world, food safety is one of animal producers'

biggest responsibilities. With over 15,000 Iowa 4-H'ers en-

rolled in livestock projects, about 17 million pounds of meat is

    produced each year.

The goal of this program is to help youth and their parents

better understand what they can do to produce the safest

    food possible.

ALL Juniors will need to be trained for the 2012 fair

year! Intermediates and Seniors can test out!

7-9 graders will take the “intermediate test” and

10-12 graders will take the “advanced test.”

For more information take a look at the

    State 4-H page regarding FSQA!

    http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/projects/

Registration will be held in the Farm Bureau Pavilion in Kildee Hall on the ISU campus the morning of April 28 between

7:30 and 8:30 am. The contest will begin at 9 am. Please find the enclosed team registration form for pre-registration.

Entry fees are $48 per team and/or $12 per individual, and can be paid either with the return of the registration form

or during registration the morning of the contest. Lunch is included in the entry fee for students. Pre-entry would be

much appreciated. There will be Senior (9th -12th Grade) and Junior (8th Grade and under) divisions for teams and

    individuals.
