1 About this guide

This document will show you step- by-step how to install Oracle 10g.

Chapter 1, “About this Guide.”

Chapter 2, “Introduction” gives an overview of the purpose and scope of the University of

Louisville’s Oracle application.

Chapter 3, “Installing Oracle 10g”, gives step-by-step instructions for installing Oracle 10g.

Chapter 4, “Frequently Asked Questions” provides answers to common questions about the

configuring your software

1.1 Who Should Use It

This guide is intended for users of the University of Louisville’s Oracle application.

1.2 Typographical Conventions

This document uses the following typographical conventions:

Command and option names appear in bold type in definitions and examples. The

names of directories, files, machines, partitions, and volumes also appear in bold.

Variable information appears in italic type. This includes user-supplied information on

command lines.



2 Introduction

2.1 Purpose

The purpose of this document is to provide step-by-step instructions for installing Oracle 10g. Oracle is a relational database management system.

2.2 Scope

This guide is intended for administrators and Tier-1 support staff who need to install Oracle 10g.



3 Installing Oracle 10g Release 2

3.1 Uninstall Oracle 9i

1. Open the K drive.

2. Double-click on the INSTALL folder.

3. Double-click on the Oracle10gRel2 folder.

4. Double-click on the setup.exe file.

5. The Oracle Universal Uninstaller screen will appear. You will not be prompted to perform any action with this screen.



6. The Oracle Universal Uninstaller Welcome screen will appear. Click the Next button.

7. Check the OraHome92 checkbox.



8. Click the Remove button.

9. Click the Yes button.

10. These screens will appear. You will not perform any action.



11. Click the Close button.

12. Click the Cancel button.

13. Reboot the computer.



3.2 Change the File Name

After you reboot the computer, you will need to change the names of c:\orant to c:\orant_OLD

and the file name C:\Program Files\Oracle to C:\Program Files\Oracle_OLD.

1. Open the C drive.

2. Right-click on the orant c file.

3. Type orant_OLD.

4. Open the Program Files folder.

5. Right-click on the Oracle folder.

6. Type Oracle_Old.

3.3 Install Oracle 10g Release 2

1. Open the K drive.

2. Navigate to the Install folder.

3. Open the Oracle10gRel2 folder.

4. Double-click on the setup.exe file.

5. The Oracle Universal Installer screen will appear. You will not be prompted to perform any action with this screen.



6. The Oracle Universal Installer Welcome screen will appear. Click the Next button.

7. Click the Next button.

8. Select the Custom installation.




10. Type C:\orant into the Path text field.



12. Check the following checkboxes:

a. Oracle Database Utilities

b. Oracle Java Client c. SQL *Plus

d. Oracle Windows Interface.



13. Uncheck Oracle Services for Microsoft Transition Server 10.2.0.1.0.

14. Scroll down the window and then check OLAP Analytic Workspace Manager and Worksheet.



15. When you check OLAP Analytic Workspace Manager and Worksheet, the Enterprise Manager 10g Java Console and Oract Net will automatically be selected. Leave Enterprise Manager 10g Java Console and Oract Net checked and click the Next button.




17. Click the Install button.

18. Check the Perform typical configuration checkbox and then click the Next button.




20. Click the Finish button.



21. The installation is completed. Click the Exit button.

22. Click the Yes button.



3.4 Configure Connectivity to a Database

1. Click the Start button and choose All Programs or Programs.

2. Navigate to the Oracle – OraClient10g_home1 folder.

3. Choose the Configuration and Migration Tools folder.

4. Select Net Configuration Assistant. 5. Select the Local Net Service Name configuration radio button and click the Next

button.




7. Type sarpod.world into the Service Name text field and click the Next button.




9. Type raven.louisville.edu into the Host name text field.

10. Type 1531 into the Use another port number text field.




12. Select the Yes, perform a test radio button.


14. Click the Change Login button.



15. Type testid into the Username field and b10wflsh into the Password field.

16. Click the OK button.






22. Go to the K drive.

23. Select the folder Install TNSNames Updates Folder. 24. Right-click on the tnsnames file and select Copy.

25. Navigate to the C:\orant\network\admin\ path.

26. Paste the tnsnames file into this folder.

27. The Oracle10g R2 Installation is complete.



3.5 Update ODBC Connections

After you have updated your tnsnames.ora file the ODBC connections will have to be updated.

In this example the SAPROD ODBC connection will be updated.

1. Click on the Start menu and choose All Programs or Programs. 2. Navigate to the Oracle – OraClient10g_home1 folder.

3. Choose the Configuration and Migration Tools folder.

4. Choose Microsoft ODBC Administrator. 5. Select the System DSN tab.



6. Click the Add button.

7. Select from the list the Oracle in OraClient10g_home1 driver.




9. Type SAPROD into the Data Source Name text field and into the Description Type

field.

10. Select SAPROD from the TNS Service Name dropdown.



11. Click Test Connection.

12. Type b10wf1sh into the Password field.



13. Click the OK button.

14. SAPROD now has the Oracle in OraClient10g_home1 driver. You can continue to use

the steps in this section to update any other ODBC connections.



3.6 List of Databases

This list contains the most commonly used databases at the University of Louisville with their

corresponding application and host name.

4 Frequently Asked Questions

1. I was unable to successfully configure my database to Oracle10g. What do I need to do?

a. Be sure you used the correct name for service name. It must have “.world”

on the end.

b. If the detail says “invalid userid or password”, be sure you entered a valid

userid and password.

c. If the detail shows a TNS error, the problem is either the database is not up

or the service name does not exist. Refer to Section 3.6 for a list of the

supported databases.

d. If you still cannot create a valid connection, contact your Tier-1 support

person.
