July Directors Message A Note from the Assistant Director, I wanted to make a few comments about our Director Sheridan. To date Sheridan has done a great job bringing the club and it's members back together. Also, doing things as they were done just a few years ago. Along with handling the Director's duties he has taken on the duties of Editor of the Running Board as well and has excelled at making it a success once again. He has gotten the RB out in a timely manner and we all greatly appreciate receiving the hard copy in the mail. Sheridan also manages to fit into his busy everyday schedule all the time necessary to organize and complete the tasks of Director. He maintains complete order at our club meetings with a friendly atmosphere while keeping the meeting focused on the subject at hand. Sheridan makes sure everyone has a voice in the direction that the club is headed. He includes discussions to encourage members to discuss what is going on with their own Buicks. Let's all do our part in contacting less active members to join in and participate in club activities. I hope that everyone that was able to attend the annual picnic on Saturday enjoyed it. I was unable to attend due to a knee injury. Regards, Jim Anderson A Happy Father's Day Blessing for everyone Remembering all the Dad's that aren't with us any longer, If roses grow in heaven lord, then pick a bunch for me. Place them in my Dad's arms and tell him They're from me. Tell him that I love and miss him, and when he turns to smile, place a kiss upon his cheek and hold him for awhile. I love you Dad

Secretaries notes June 7 2011 Board meeting

Board members present: Sonny Bishop, Gary Martin, Lee Wang-erin, Larry Minery, Garry Toulson. Guest Members present: Richard Brewbaker, Nancy Brewbaker. Sonny will publish directions in this Running Board on how to access the Running Board on line. Responsibilities of the Officers: Sonny outlined some of the du-ties of the club officer’s. The duties of each officer is spelled out in the By laws. At the nomination of officers in September-October each officer will read his duties. In this way if someone does not have time to fill the duties of the office that person can decline the nomination. Board members discussed ways of making the monthly member-ship meetings more entertaining and less business orientated. We are now having Board Meetings as stated in the by-laws and could go to Cruse Nights, Burger Joints, etc for the monthly gen-eral membership meetings. The exception would be the nights we have guest speakers. Jim Anderson also spoke on the need too change the mood of the monthly meetings, and to discuss busi-ness matters at the Board Meetings. The Board voted unanimously to give the Treasurers Report at the Board Meetings only, and not published in the Run-ning Board. If anyone has interest in the financials of the club, you are welcome to attend a Board meeting. Nancy Brewbaker (Co-Chair of the Car Show) spoke about the car show volunteers and elimination the positions not needed due to the change from full on car show to Show and Shine format. The entrance fee for the Show and Shine is five dollars.

See Gary Martin for de-tails on this product. 714-812-7713 Continued from page 7, Dirty engines sure do run quieter, though. For some old cars a flush may be beneficial, but for others it may actually be harmful. As the old ad-age tells us, ‘let sleeping dogs lie.’ Or ‘don't fix it if it ain’t broke. ‘ On a badly maintained engine, there may be too many deposits for the flushing chemicals to re-move. The problem here is that the chemicals will dislodge enough crud so that it blocks small pas-sages or clogs up the oil pump pickup screen. In this case, you’re much better off changing the oil more frequently, say every 1,000 miles, and let the cleaning properties of the oil reduce accumu-lated deposits a little at a time. An engine flush in a can’ has the potential to cause problems. If you are in-sistant on flushing your engine, do it this way. The old timers used a gallon of kerosene as a flush. They were on the right trac but over did it.

Continued next month. 5

Richard reported on food for the show and the group agreed that the Santa Maria style lunch is out due to the anticipated lower turn-out for this type of show . Larry suggested having someone cook Mexican food at Crevier, and will follow-up on this. Sonny requested pictures of your cars for the News Letter. Garry Toulson displayed a letter of thanks from the Ronald McDonald House organization to our club for our recent dona-tion. Richard Brewbaker spoke about the July tour to the Drivers Auto Museum and the Car Club Picnic at Irvine Park. John Dyke and Richard are working on the July tour. Call them for details on both events. The meeting adjourned at 8;30pm Gary Martin, Secretary

Dues are due July First We are enclosing a new application in this news letter. Please fill it out completely listing your Buicks from oldest to newest. We are working from some rosters that are not current. Some mistakes are known and have been corrected. All paid members will be receiving a new roster later this year in your news letter in a easy to read form. Unfor-tunately late registrations will not appear in your

roster. Please don't wait until its to late. Our club is changing (for the better), less business and more about our cars and the fun stuff associated with them. Rich-ard Brewbaker has done a great job on our tours, and John Dyke in soliciting great speakers for our monthly meetings .Come to a meeting and see for yourself. The change has been a team effort on the part of our board of directors. Just a thought on flushing your engine. From Skinned Knuckles magazine January 2010 page 28. Engine Flush. I call this one the ’ money flush’ . The reasoning is that oil’s “oiliness” goes away over time and varnish and other compounds stay inside the engine. These begin to restrict oil flow (using a bad analogy) much of the way that cholesterol blocks blood flow in your arteries. ‘Oiliness’ is often demon-strated in parts stores by way of an ‘eggbeater’ display. Internal engine cleaning or flushing is being promoted by the quick oil-change folks with the advice that if you clean out the engine of accumulated sludge, deposits and other nasty gook, it will run better and last longer. They relate it to cholesterol medi-cation. Next thing you know, they will be selling pills to drop in your oil. An easy way to see if your engine has sludge buildup is to pull off a valve cover or side valve plate cover. A clean engine will have very little cooking (crusty deposits).
