Orange Grove Primary School

Newsletter ISSUE 16 | 21 October 2020

From the Principal

Thank you for your warm welcome to Orange

Grove Primary School

I would like to take the time to extend my appre-

ciation to the students, staff and community for

the warm welcome I have received at Orange

Grove Primary School. I have loved visiting

classrooms and meeting the students, as well as

greeting and farewelling the students at the gate

each morning and afternoon.

I would also like to acknowledge the wonderful

job both Mrs Heffernan and Mr Bathols did in

leading the school in Term 3, 2020. They worked

very hard to continue moving the school forward

during this time I thank them for their time.

As previously communicated by Mrs Ghent, she

has decided to retire at the end of 2020. This

means that the Principal position for Orange

Grove Primary School will be advertised this

term with a new Principal starting in 2021.

Assembly Friday 16 October

I would like to congratulate Room 1 and Miss

Hartley for the wonderful assembly item on

Friday of Week 1. It was indeed a very catchy

tune and I loved seeing the learning they have

been doing in Italian.

I would also like to thank Mr Stephen Price MLA

for attending our assembly and presenting the

school with a new Australian and Aboriginal flag.

COVID 19 update

Western Australia has delayed the introduction

of the Phase 5 COVID 19 Roadmap for another

two months.

However, there have been some minor modifica-

tions to Phase 4 that will support us in preparing

for the gradual return to normal school

operating structures. As a result we have decided

that from Monday 26 October, the following new

routines will be implemented at Orange Grove.

Drop Off—Morning Routine

- The ‘kiss n drive’ for all students will remain in

place at drop off time i.e. morning drop off. We

ask that all parents and carers continue to use

this area and do not enter the school site unless

visiting the administration. This area will

continued to be defined with cones to indicate

entry and exit points.

Pick Up—Afternoon Routine

- At pick up time, parents and carers will be

allowed to enter the school grounds to collect

their children. Gates will open at 3.05pm

(2.30pm on Thursdays) for parents to enter and

make their way directly to classrooms to pick up

children.

Please be aware that you should not enter the

school grounds before the gates are open or use

the seating/playground equipment when picking

up your children. Our cleaners are disinfecting

surfaces each afternoon and will have already

completed the cleaning of these areas.

- Please do not enter the classrooms at pick up time as

restrictions still limit the number of adults in the enclosed

areas of school buildings.

- The main carpark will be open for parking in the afternoon

and the cones removed.

- Parents and carers are still encouraged to use the ‘kiss n

drive’ area at the bottom of the driveway. A member of the

administration team will be there to assist.

- If your child is in Kindergarten or PP and you would still

like to use the ’kiss n drive’, please advise the classroom

teacher so the EA can walk them to this area.

- We thank you for your continued support throughout this

year with the different routines. We look forward to the full

return of normal operating procedures in the near future and

will continue to gradually work towards these.

Book Week and Book Parade

In Week 3, we will be celebrating Book Week. As part of

these celebrations we will be having a Book Week Dress Day

on Thursday 29 October.

We will also welcoming parents and carers to attend the

Book Week Parade on Thursday 29 October at 2pm on the

top oval. Gates will open just before 2pm for parents to make

their way to the oval where an area will be marked out with

cones. We ask that parents spread out around the outside of

the cones so that students can sit in the middle of the

defined area. The children will parade around the inside of

the marked area.

Interschool Cross Country, Jumps & Throws and Running

Carnival.

I would like to wish our students all the best when competing

at the Interschool Carnivals on Tuesday 20 October and

Friday 23 October.

I know they will make the school proud with their wonderful

behaviour and sportsmanship.

School Board

The purpose of the School Board is to support the school

with strategic planning and governance when reviewing

progress with the School Business Plan.

Our next School Board meeting will be held on the 27

October at 6pm. At this meeting the Board will be approving

the Contributions & Charges and Booklists for 2021, as well

as reviewing the proposed Staff Development Day schedule

for next year.

Mrs Jessica Sparre will also be sharing information about our

Science and STEAM programs at Orange Grove.

End of Year Events

We are anticipating that all end of year events will be able to

go ahead with parent and community audiences. This will of

course depend on the WA COVID 19 Roadmap and we will

need to respond to any unforeseen changes. There will be

modified seating arrangements for the events and modified

times but we are endeavouring to ensure all opportunities to

as many students and parents as possible.
