CASE STUDIES During the course, the learning process will bereinforced by four ‘hands-on’ case studies drawn fromactual situations. These will put the theory to work, andproceed through the methodology to arrive at anappropriately-designed system and the costs - or‘bottom line’ - benefits. Design and cost a coal exploration drilling

program for an existing mine – Day 1 Design and cost a blast hole pattern – Day 2 Selection of equipment and unit

costing for a excavator and truck fleet operation – Day 4

Determine operating costs, cash flow analysis and valuation for an existing mine – Day 5

TEACHINGFACULTY

The faculty is drawn from executives and practitioners in companies actively involvedin different aspects of the mining industry. All teaching faculty are professionallyqualified in their field, with a minimum of 10–20 years work experience. Themedium for instruction will include lecture notes, examples drawn from realsituations, group exercises and workshops, and a detailed course manual, as well asthe use of multi-media aids such as videos and large-screen computer simulations. There will be ample time to question each speaker. The course will ultimately bereinforced by a visit to a large surface coal-mining operation.

NG TRAINING COURSE AGENDA

ur website on www.coaltransconferences.com

Delegates will have the opportunity to visit either PT Kaltim Prima Coal(KPC), or, PT Adaro Indonesia (Adaro), on Day 3, Wednesday 6 August2003. Delegates should indicate their preference when registering for thecourse as to which mine site they prefer to visit. For logistical reasons, mine site visits will be limited to a certain number of visitors, anddelegates may not be able to visit the mine of their first choice.

Please register your choice of visit on the delegate registration form on page 6.

PT Adaro Indonesia Adaro is Indonesia’s largest coal producer with sales in

2002 of 21.2MT. Delegates will view mining operations at the Tutupan pitwith multiple coal seams of 20 meters in thickness, travel down the 75kmhaul road and view operations at the Kelanis processing and barge-loading facility, which has a throughput capacity of 22MT per year.

PT Kaltim Prima Coal The operation includes a series of open cut pits, coalpreparation facilities, 13km overland conveyor to the

coast and a world class marine terminal capable of handling bulk

carriers of up to 220,000 DWT. The remote location necessitates fullsupporting infrastructure, including a power station, housing, schools, hospitals, water supply and recreational facilities.

Production reached 17.7MT in 2002 and isforecast to be 18.2 MT in 2003 by moving148M bank cubic metres of overburden.KPC produces three coal brands -Prima, Pinang and Melawan - andis now Indonesia's andone of theworld'slargestexportcoalmines.
